3rd Test: England v Australia at Old Trafford Aug 1-5, 2013

Geez still no Bird, getting real annoying now. Watson on the fast boat to being dropped. Nice to see Rogers making runs will do his confidence some good and cement his spot for a few test.

Usually you have some idea or whether a batter is out when they review. With Australia I just expect that they are...

Wow what a terrible decision from the 3rd umpire.

Well as far as I can see the 3rd umpire says he can't tell therefore he can't overturn the onfield call.
Had it been given not out onfield it would have stayed not out. I've not seen the TV replays (only listening on radio) but at very least it feels to me like Aus shouldn't lose a review in that situation.

Bottom line is the onfield umpire got it wrong. That's not DRS's fault.

Colin, it was as clearly not out as you could get. You didn't need hotspot, snicko or anything. All you needed was a replay which showed clear daylight between the ball and bat. DRS has reached a farcical new low, due to a horrendous 3rd umpire.

What is the point of looking at hot spot and listening to the noise if you don't take into account the negative decision?

Dharmasena is the 3rd umpire, obviously wanting to help out a fellow spin bowler ;)

Well if it's any consolation I hear that he was possibly out lbw the ball before.
The biggest problem with DRS has always been human error.

That "inconclusive" thing went with the umpire but what about last match that went against the umpire.

Are we sure that was inconclusive anyway? No hotpsot, not snick no nothing doesn't mean inconclusive.

Was getting breakfast at the time, turned it on mid review.

Human error is one thing but the fact that out of everyone at the ground the only one who would have left that as out was the guy paid to do it. The amount of information available to the third umpire can't get much better, aside for perhaps snicko, yet we're paying fools to sit in the box and get it wrong time after time.

And yes, to rub salt into the wound we lose a referral.

The ONLY good thing about DRS in this series is that it's been cocked up in the highest profile cricket competition and to the extent where there will be a full review and likely significant changes.

All umpires involved in this series should be demoted if not sacked. They have been horendous. The Khawaja decision is an all-time low. No hot spot, daylight between bat and ball, two noises but were half a second either side of ball passing bat. They say we can't use it, no we get screwed over by it. How more not out can you get?
