A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story (Chewie v Iridium v Hedger)

My egg always hatches in Goldenrod so I'm guessing that will be case this time as well.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokemon Story ? Part 5

It was time to enter the cave and see what was in there. I was never fond of caves but it was the only way to go forward, so I walked through the entrance and it was a lot darker than outside.

Union Cave

So I moved off to the left once I entered the cave, where I found two paths to take. I picked up an X Attack nearby before deciding to go up. There was some stairs there so I continued, taking on a Firebreather who had a Vulpix but Quilava defeated it pretty easily anyway and I went down the stairs. I found the TM39, Rock Tomb there and also an X Defend. There wasn?t anything else though apart from a body of water which led to another path but I couldn?t get across. I did catch a Zubat and Sandshrew though. I went back up the stairs and this time took the other path, where there were a few other trainers. The first trainer had an Onix which didn?t please me, since I had no water or grass pokemon. It took a bit longer than I thought it would but after 3 attacks, I finally killed the Onix and won. The second trainer also had rock pokemon with 3 Geodude?s, as Quilava killed the first to gain a level before I decided to send out Onix. Rock Smash was super effective on Geodude and lowered his defence each time so it was a pretty easy battle, as Onix also gained a level. I stuck with Onix for the last Geodude and although it took a little while, Onix took him down since he only used stat raising moves. Onix?s boosted experience got him up to level 7 and nearly to level 8 as well. I kept going along the path.

I heard something crack as I was walking along. I looked at all my pokemon and my egg had hatched, and a pokemon appeared. My pokedex told me it was a Togepi. I then received a call from Professor Elm, almost the next second and I told him that the egg had hatched. He told me to come back to the lab so I decided to just leave, while having spotted a great ball and a potion on the ground so I picked them up and ran as fast as I could back to New Bark Town.

New Bark Town

It was a relatively easy trip back, only running into one wild pokemon as I got back to the lab pretty quickly. He said that the pokemon wasn?t in Johto as well as saying that it could be a legendary pokemon although he had brushed off that thought straight away so I didn?t know. He was happy with me and gave me a present for doing that, an Everstone. He said that it would keep a pokemon from evolving. Wasn?t something I really needed but it might come in handy at some point. I decided to go say hello to mum while I was here and she was pretty happy to see me and told me that she kept my room tidy and clean. She also told me she had saved up $1,200 for me but I didn?t really need any at that moment so I left it there, said goodbye and ran off again. I was about to leave but decided to also go to Lyra?s place and see if she was home. She was upstairs but wasn?t too excited to see me so I only spent a couple of minutes up there before heading off again.

Union Cave

And back to Union Cave, I went. I also trained up my level 1 Togepi a bit. His psychic move, Extrasensory helped me train him better and at level 6, he learned Metronome, which was fun using as he used moves like Mist, Feather Dance, Payback and Psybeam. It was actually pretty fun watching all his moves being used. After Togepi grew to level 8, I entered the cave again and ran back down to where I was before. I was challenged by another firebreather who sent out a Koffing. I accidently threw out the wrong poke ball and put Togepi into battle. I remembered that Psychic was really effective against poison pokemon though so I left him out there. Koffing got the first attack in with some poison gas though which poisoned by Togepi. He sent out another Koffing then but I brought by Togepi back and sent out Quilava, who killed Koffing with an ember. I ran back quickly to the Pokemon Center so I could heal my Togepi before he died of poisoning. It seemed like it would die but the poisoning just faded away before he did so. I healed my pokemon before going back in the cave again and ran into another trainer. This time it was a guy in a green costume. Who knows what he was dressed up as? He sent out a Slowpoke, while I sent out Quilava, before realizing that his water moves would be super effective on me. I ended up having to use Quick Attack to kill him. Just as I was about to kill him though, Quilava fell asleep, so Pidgey had to finish him off. I found the exit of the cave after that, and also found an Awakening, before walking out of the cave, where it was raining.

Azalea Town

I evaded what looked like a trainer on the route outside the cave so I could go heal my Quilava, before I headed back to take him on although I saw an aggressive person push an old man away before standing in the way of the well there. Although he started off with a Geodude which wasn?t that good for my Quilava anyway. The Geodude was playing a defensive game though but my Quilava finally killed him without taking any damage. I then brought my Quilava back and sent out Pidgey who made quick work of his Machop. After that, we exchanged numbers and I headed back into the town. I had a look at the Poke Mart to see if there was anything worth buying there and I picked up some bloom mail so I could send mum a letter if I needed to. For the moment, I just tossed it into my bag and left. I also looked in my PC and saw a letter from Lyra. She said she loved pokemon, with a picture of her Marill. I then went to explore the town. There was a Charcoal Kiln which I didn?t find too interesting but I found Kurt?s house, who someone had told me about earlier and how he makes different types of poke balls. Rather than offer to make me a poke ball, he told me about Team Rocket who was an evil gang who was at the well cutting off the tails of Slowpoke?s and selling them, before running off to try and save the Slowpoke?s. I decided to go check out the well again.

Slowpoke Well

The well was now unguarded when I got back there so I just walked straight in and down the well. I found Kurt just down the well, who said he shouted at the guard who then took off, before he tumbled down the well and hurt his back, and couldn?t move, so he told me to go instead and face Team Rocket, so I walked through the tunnel. The first Rocket I ran into didn?t put up much of a fight with his Rattata?s and Quilava beat him with ease. I then found a super potion on the ground before defeating the second trainer there. Quilava killed his Zubat with ease before I sent out Togepi to take on Ekans, and after using Extrasensory a few times, Ekans fell as well and Togepi took a fair bit of experience. I saw what looked like the leader to Team Rocket just up ahead, but I needed to defeat one last trainer first, which I did pretty easily again. I decided to go back to the Pokemon Center first to heal my pokemon before taking on the leader. The Team Rocket Executive, Proton then challenged me to a battle and told me not to interfere with their business. Quilava took his Zubat down in one shot and two Embers had Koffing down as well and a reasonable amount of experience to go with it. I got $480 for winning the fight. He then went on about how Team Rocket continued onwards underground after they broke up 3 years ago, before running off. Kurt then ran up to me, saying Team Rocket was gone, and that his back was better. He then took me back to his house. He gave me a fast ball and then saw my Apricorns and told me that he?d turn them into poke balls. I gave him 2 Pnk Apricorns and then he said he?d take a day to make the poke ball and told me to come back for it later. His granddaughter then gave me Kurt?s number and told me to give him a call whenever to see if the poke balls were ready. I then went and healed my pokemon. Was I going to take on the next gym leader now?

A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story
Iridium - Part 5

Union Cave
If I'm honest, Union Cave is not the most pleasant place in the world. It's cold, dark and damp. But I sucked it up and soldiered on. I came across an intersection in the cave, one that headed down deeper into the cave and one which went towards Azalea Town. I was in no rush so decided to explore in the cave's basement.

There was a firebreather who challenged me to a battle with his Vulpix, which was bad choice considering I had Totodile. My Pokemon had the advantage and used it to win. Past him was the stairs that took you to the basement. There wasn't much to see down here, just some rocks and a giant body of water. It wasn't a complete waste of time. I caught a Sandshrew [SANDSHREW | F | Lvl 6] and found TM39 (Rock Tomb).

Back on the upper level and now heading in the right direction, there were a few hikers there, all keen for a battle. Their rock and ground-type Pokemon were powerless to compete against my Totodile and Bellsprout, with the type advantage coming in very handy. There was yet another firebreather, Bill, who wanted a battle. His two Koffing were tough and in the process, my Spearow was badly poisoned. Fortunately I was prepared and used an Antidote. All was well. Soon after a Zubat was caught [ZUBAT | M | Lvl 5].

Towards the ends of the cave, a Poke Maniac lay in wait. He used a Slowpoke which didn't seem to do much other than look brain-dead. Mareep had little trouble in defeating it. Finally I was at the end of the damp, cold cave. I walked out the exit and right into....

Route 33
...the damp, cold rain. It was absolutely bucketing down. "Stupid weather', I thought to myself. I ran towards Azalea Town but not before I was stopped by a hiker who insisted on a battle. I wasn't really in the mood for it but I obliged. Totodile was loving the rain and his almost seemed to hit with more power, as the hiker's Geodude found out. Machop was up next and Spearow was much too nimble and agile for it.

As Azalea Town came into sight the rain stopped. There seemed to be some sort of confrontation near the town's well. Words were being exchanged between a man and another man in black clothing with a big 'R' on his shirt. The R-man violently shoved the other man to the ground. That's the first time I've ever seen an adult cry and wasn't pretty. I gave the R-man a wide berth and made for the Pokemon Centre.

Azalea Town
After healing my Pokemon, I made my way to the Gym, only to see that it was blocked by another man in black. After seeing what that other guy did, I decided I'd wait him out. I made my way over to Kurt's house. Kurt was a reowned maker of Pokeballs and being a trainer, it was definitely worth going to see him.

Kurt invited me into his home but was in no mood to discuss Pokeballs. Instead he rambled on about Team Rocket and how they were chopping off the tails of Slowpoke and selling them for money. I remembered the men in black clothes and deduced that they must be part of Team Rocket. All of a sudden, Kurt announced he was going to teach Team Rocket a lesson and shot out the door, leaving his granddaughter on her own. How irresponsible! I hastily apologised and ran after Kurt.

Slowpoke Well
I chased Kurt all the way back to the well I had passed earlier, called Slowpoke Well. I clambered down into the well to find Kurt writhing in pain on the bottom. Seems as though he fell in and hurt his back. Instead of asking for an ambulance, he asked that I go in and take care of Team Rocket. And instead of calling the police, I decided to face the criminal organisation with my Pokemon.

The first three Rocket trainers were obviously Grunts, due to their weak Pokemon and poor battling. Their Rattatas, Zubats and Ekans' were tossed aside by my Totodile, Geodude and Mareep. At the back of the well, there were a few Slowpoke, all with their tails missing. They didn't seem to be in pain as they had the same dopey look they always have. There was one last Rocket there, and he seemed different. Turns out he was in charge here.

Proton seemed to be an executive within the Rocket Ranks. He mentioned he had a reputation of being the meanest and cruellest guy in Team Rocket. He gave me an option not to interfere, but I declined.

He sent out a Zubat. I was a bit disappointed as I thought that being an executive would entitle you to some better Pokemon. I sent out Mareep and one ThunderShock was enough to take it down. Proton seemed to be taken aback at how easily his Zubat was beaten but quickly regained his composure and sent out Koffing.

This Koffing was a lot tougher, so Totodile was sent in. Totodile was doing a great job but Koffing then used Poison Gas, weakening Totodile. I tried to recall Totodile but he wanted to fight on. I rummaged through my bag but found that the Antidote I used on Spearow in Union Cave was the only one I had. Totodile dug deep and a few Water Gun's later, hit its mark and Koffing was gone.

Iridium defeated Executive Proton
Totodile - 292 exp
Mareep - 91 exp
$480

Proton was clearly not happy about this loss. He explained that Team Rocket was broken up three years ago but that they continued their activities underground. He fired a warning to me and left with his crew. Kurt came through after they had left and advised we head back to his place.

Azalea Town
Kurt was thankful to me for my help in kicking Team Rocket out of the Well and Azalea Town. He said he would be glad to make Pokeballs for me and gave me a Fast Ball as a reward. One of the Slowpokes from the well belonged to his granddaughter and amazingly it's tail had grown back.

I rushed Totodile to the Pokemon Centre to cure it from its poisoning. Totodile looked great after the treatment and was brimming with health.

With all my preparations done, it was time to get my second Gym badge.

Marriland is a good site :) How are you planning to beat the gym? Just use Totodile?

Yes I know you'll be fine :p I don't think Iridium's Spearow will quite cut it at it's low level though.

I dunno what I'm going to do either. Probably just use Totodile and brute force

Geodude should be alright though, provided it has a rock type attack?

And yeah, all the battles should be pretty easy apart from the gym leader though so he could use the battles before to train up his Spearow.

Basically. I'll use Spearow against the other people in the gym. IIRC, Bugsy sends out Scyther first so I'll just brute force it with Totodile is Spearow isn't strong enough and let him finish off the rest.

And yes Geodude knows Rock Throw.

Marriland is a good site :) How are you planning to beat the gym? Just use Totodile?

Yea, Marriland is a good site. Found it a while back when I was YouTube and saw some of his playthrough videos. I like the team builder he has on his site. Good for spotting weaknesses in your team.

I like his walkthroughs :) Especially in B&W where he's evaluating each new pokemon that is available as he comes across it and whether it's a good choice to have in your team

That is a handy feature. I used his B/W walkthrough when I was playing it. Handy to have considering it's a new region.

You don't need strategies to complete the main storyline in any game. It's just so easy, but yeah some people don't want to miss a single item/feature...

yup that's me :p I want to be sure I've caught every single pokemon I can. At the start at least. After a while I get bored.

I usually do that but the problem is that I always like to catch mostly male Pokemon. If looks Pokemon looks male, then I must catch a male version. Because of this I've run from rare Pokemon because they weren't the right gender.

This time, if I see it and I don't have it, I'll catch it.
