I don't want to train Pokemon and not use them later on because that's just a waste. So I basically pick my team now and then train them accordingly.

Experiment a bit. I tried Togepi/tic/kiss in my previous save and it was awesome. The only annoying thing is getting it's happiness up so it can evolve in the first place. But worth the work.

Yep that's the next one. Then it's the gym (and beating your rival, which you can do before or after you defeat the gym)

Yeah, so we'll go to Team Rocket, then Rival+Gym Leader, so you may as well defeat your rival first.

Yea I'm still in Violet City with my Togepi. Gonna run around some more so it evolves soon

Well my egg hatched once I reached the middle of the cave so I didn't have Togepi in my party.
