A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story (Chewie v Iridium v Hedger)

Are you trying to catch all the Pokemon at the same time?

Because in order to get all the Pokemon, you just need to hold them at some point don't you, because of evolutions etc. right?

I guess though you probably want another one, in order to get its evolution.

You only need to have a pokemon at some point (like I still have Cyndaquil as obtained in my pokedex despite it evolving into a Quilava). I'm guessing he just got the other one to trade for an Onix while at some point train his Bellsprout up.

I just like having it there in the event I want to train it up sometime. I probably won't. But still.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokemon Story ? Part 3

It was time to face the 1st gym, and I knew I could win. My pokemon were well trained, well apart from my Onix. So I ran from the pokemon center straight to the gym ready to earn my first badge.

Violet City Gym

When I got into the gym, the guide earlier had moved to the entrance of the gym, and told me that the gym leader, Falkner used flying type pokemon and it wouldn?t be wise to take Grass pokemon in. I didn?t have any grass pokemon so it didn?t matter. I walked forward and onto a switch which propelled me upwards to where the gym leader and the other trainers were. It was very high though and I didn?t want to fall off but I just followed the paths forward.

Bird Keeper Abe

So the first trainer I had to face was a guy called Abe. He sent out a level 9 Spearow, and I just sent out my Quilava. Quilava used Ember to start off with, doing a lot of damage, although not quite killing it before Spearow used peck to do not as much damage to my pokemon. Quilava then finished things off by tackling Spearow, killing it and gaining 111 exp points. Now there was only one trainer in the way before I would face the gym leader.

Bird Keeper Rod

Rod had two pokemon I would have to fight, unlike Abe, and his first was a level 7 Pidgey. Quilava used ember killing him instantly. Rod then sent out another Pidgey, again on level 7 although this time I gave Pidgey the chance to fight him. My Pidgey used gust, taking half of the opponent?s damage before his Pidgey used sand attack, but my Pidgey?s ability prevented it from being effected, before finishing the opponent off and nearly gaining another level. He told me that Falkner?s skills were real and not to get cocky but I still knew I would beat him. I just realised that there was a way around that would have meant I didn?t have to fight the trainers, but they gave good experience against the flying pokemon so I didn?t mind. Now Falkner was left to defeat.

Gym Leader Falkner

I didn?t really need to heal my pokemon so I went straight up to Falkner. He went on about how electricity can kill birds or something like that and that he wouldn?t allow such insults to bird pokemon. Did I really care about that? He then just said he?s show me the real power of the magnificent bird pokemon and then the battle commenced. I let my Pidgey battle first against his level 9 Pidgey, as he had two pokemon. I started off well getting two gusts in without him even attacking me once, since he missed his tackle attack and then stupidly used sand attack which didn?t affect Pidgey. One last gust from my Pidgey cleaned Falkner?s Pidgey up and he gained enough experience to grow to level 12. His second pokemon was a Pidgeotto, so I decided to send Quilava back out, with his Pidgeotto at level 13. Quilava?s Ember did a fair bit of damage but Pidgeotto used Roost which was annoying as he regained nearly all of his HP. It seemed like it would be a long battle so when my Quilava had lost about 20 HP, I gave him a potion. Pidgeotto seemed to have finished using Roost for a little while and then I got a critical hit using Ember, taking away most of his health. Quilava then finished him off with another Ember to gain 313 experience points to grow to level 15, and I got $1560. Falkner admitted defeat and gave me the Zephyr Badge, which allowed me to use Rock Smash anytime outside of battle. He also gave me TM51, Roost, the move that Pidgeotto had used to annoy me through that battle. He then suggested me to go to Azalea Town next so that was probably where I was heading. I used the TM straight away, teaching Roost to my Pidgey. So the first gym badge was mine now and I knew I could become the Johto Pokemon Champion.

A Heart of Gold - Part 2

Route 29 & 46
As I set out, I met Lyra on route 29. She taught me how to catch pokemon of my own, and gave me 5 pokeballs, which was rather nice of her. They're expensive things! I wanted to try and catch every pokemon in the world so I started by nabbing myself a level 3 Sentret, a level 3 Geodude, a level 4 Rattata, a level 2 Spearow and a level 2 Pidgey.

Cherrygrove City
With the recent additions to my party, I had run out of pokeballs. Conveniently, the Pokemart in Cherrygrove City had just started stocking them, and so I picked up 15, before taking time to heal my pokemon at the Pokemon Centre, and depositing all the pokemon except Totodile into the PC. I didn't really want them except for my collection so they can go chill in there instead.

Route 30
I decided to go out and add some more to my collection. On this route I managed to catch a level 3 Caterpie, a level 4 Metapod, a level 2 Spinarak and a level 4 Hoot Hoot. My collection was starting to build quite quickly! I deposited everyone but the Hoot Hoot who I decided to take around with me on my adventures.

Further along the route I encountered my first proper trainer battles. Hoothoot was helpful here, with Hypnosis putting their Pokemon to sleep before tackle finished them off.

Dark Cave
On the way to Violet City, I made a detour to Dark Cave to pick up some more Pokemon. It was pitch dark in here so I wasn't able to see where I was going but stumbling around I managed to find and catch a lvl 2 Zubat.

041Zubat.png

I knew that there were some Dunsparce in here, but the likelihood of my finding one was next to none so I didn't bother trying. I just left the darkness of the cave as soon as I could. The name of the cave really was appropriate.

Route 31
This route seemed very similar to the previous one, but there was one new Pokemon to catch here. After defeating the Bug Catcher who wanted to fight, I caught two Bellsprouts, both level 3.

120px-069Bellsprout.png

With these new companions, I headed towards the exit of the route, where I would be entering the biggest city I would have ever been in. The city where my first gym challenge awaited me.

Violet City
Upon entering the city, I ran into Lyra who was surprised at the speed I had reached the new city. She kindly gave me the VS Recorder. I seem to be getting quite a few presents recently, and it's not even my birthday! In one of the houses in the city a person wanted to trade a Bellsprout for an Onix. Rather coincidentally, I happened to own two Bellsprouts, so I went through with the trade, and received another Pokemon for my collection.

160px-095Onix.png

I entered the trainers school here, but they were all noobs so I left quickly. The guy in the Pokemon gym told me to go to Sprout Tower first to prove my worth, and so I headed over there to find some more Pokemon to catch and show that I was worthy of facing Faulkner

Sprout Tower
This place is a bit eery at night. I soon found out why, encountering a level 3 Gastly which I managed to catch.

130px-092Gastly.png

There were a number of monks in the building, and they all wanted to fight me as I made my way up the tower. Weirdly they all owned Bellsprout. I used this as an opportunity to train Gastly up, a process that took quite a long time due to Lick being a poor move (and rather disgusting). Finally I reached the top of the tower to find Bob talking to the Elder. They talked for a while, but then it was my turn to face him. He had pretty strong pokemon, but Hoothoot and Totodile were able to take them down. For my efforts he gave me TM70 - Flash. I now felt ready to face the biggest challenge of my life, the gym leader.

haha, so you waited all day so that you could catch a Gastly at night :p

After the gym leader, it's fairly long, I think before we get to the actual big battle, which is against Team Rocket, I think.

A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story
Iridium - Part 3

After my training at Sprout Tower I was brimming with confidence at my chances of defeating the Violet City Gym Leader.....right up until I discovered that the Leader specialised in Flying-type Pokemon. This was not good. As I saw it, there were two ways I could go about this battle: 1) brute force or 2) look for Pokemon that would be more effective against it. My current team of Totodile and Spearow didn't know any move effective against Flying-type Pokemon and I didn't own any other Pokemon that would cut it. Or did I?

074Geodude.png

Geodude | M | Lvl 3

I remembered the Geodude I had caught earlier and, being the nerd I was, quickly did some research and found that Rock-type Pokemon were perfect for the job. Not only were Rock-type moves effective, but Flying-type moves only dealt half the damage against them. Brilliant! So I withdrew Geodude and went out of Violet City to train Geodude. After many hours, Geodude reached Lvl 11 and learned Rock Throw.

Violet City Gym
I entered the gym with a bit of trepidation. The guide who had previously blocked my way was standing off to the side. He motioned for me to get onto the square platform. As soon as I had done so, I was shot up at a million miles an hour, causing my heart to drop into my intestines. A word of warning would have been nice. And some railings.

What a gym it was. A snaking wooden path lay before me leading to the gym leader. Along the way, I could see two trainers who must have been training under the Leader's tutelage. I could see that they were keen to use this opportunity to impress the Leader.

First up was Abe, who started off with a Spearow. I sent Totodile forward and called for Water Gun. The attack hit but Spearow immediately came back with Peck. Totodile stood his ground and shot out another Water Gun, ending the battle.

After Abe came Rod, who started proceedings with a Pidgey. Totodile was already right in the zone and one Water Gun was enough to take it out of action. Another Pidgey was sent out and the result was almost identical, this time taking two Water Gun attacks to down his foe.

The path was clear. The Leader stood before me.

The Leader introduced himself as Falkner and he was eager to show the magnificence of bird Pokemon.

Pidgey was the first Pokemon he called out. Totodile was ready to go and I wasn't going to deny him the chance to battle. Water Gun was used and it hit its mark. This Pidgey, it seemed, was a rung above the ones I had faced earlier. Instead of counter-attacking, Pidgey used Sand Attack. Totodile immediately shut his eyes to keep out the sand and Pidgey took this chance to attack. I called for Totodile to use Water Gun but with the sand flying about, the attack went wide. Pidgey continued to flick up more sand and Totodile continued to miss. However, as Pidgey flew in low to use Sand Attack again, I quickly told Totodile to use Scratch and at close range, it was hard to miss. One down, one to go.

Next up was Pidgeotto. I decided to stick with Totodile and try using more brute force. Totodile attacked with Water Gun which hit it's mark but all I did was give it a shower. Totodile used Water Gun again. Again it hit. Again it had little effect. Falkner told Pidgeotto to use Roost. Pidgeotto landed and seemed to regain its health.

I called for Totodile to attack while it was still on the ground. A Water Gun was sent forth and it hit it's mark. But then it used Roost again, nullifying any damage I was doing. This wasn't working, so it was time for Plan B.

I recalled Totodile and sent out Geodude. Pidgeotto saw this new threat and used Gust. Geodude braced himself and came through virtually unscathed. Geodude used Rock Thorw but missed. Pidgeotto was much too fast. Geodude tried again and this time it stuck. Pidgeotto used Roost to regain strength and whilst it did that, I called for Geodude to attack. Pidgeotto couldn't evade the attack in time and it took the full brunt of the barrage. This battle was mine.

Iridium defeated Leader Falkner
Totodile - 261 exp
Geodude - 156 exp
$1560

Falkner was gracious in defeat and awarded me my first badge, the Zephyr Badge:

Falkner also gave me TM51 (Roost), the move which had frustrated me throughout most of the battle. He suggested my next destination in my journey should be Azelea Town.

I gazed at my badge as the reality sunk in that I had just defeated a Gym Leader. A big smile spread across my face. My journey to be the Champion had well and truly begun.

Yea that's the next big thing. Maybe we can play up until we get to the cave?

I'm probably going to be posting in small bits still.

And yea, I started the writeup at 5, and then realised that there would be no Gastly about so I waited until after dinner to finish it :p

The cave near the slowpoketail salesman. There's a pokemon Centre nearby.

How have I seen more Pokemon than both of you? :/

lol I can't be bothered training Onix or Geodude, I'm just gonna use brute force :p Doesn't help that Gastly can't do anything to them...

Well I haven't seen Onix, Gastly or Spinarak.

----------

Took me ages to train Geodude. I never want to do that again but I can be pretty pedantic about training my Pokemon evenly so it'll happen again at some point, I'm sure.

Yeah, I haven't seen seen Gastly or Spinarak. And haha, I just caught a level 10 Geodude, so I don't have to train him up :p

Yeah, up to Union Cave sounds good. Just finished going through the ruins and will probably continue tomorrow or might play a bit more tonight.

And Iridium, get a Bellsprout and trade it for an Onix :p

Yea I like my pokemon to be trained evenly too. Thankfully, Gastly doesn't require much training to level. Lick is such a poor move
