A Heart of Gold: A Pok?mon Story (Chewie v Iridium v Hedger)

I only have one ds... that could be a problem. I'll find a way to evolve it :spy

A Heart of Gold - Part 3

I stood outside the Pokemon Gym, looking at the huge arch that reached over it's entrance. The power radiating from the building was immense, and I almost felt fearful of going inside. I knew I had to man up though and I took my first step inside the gym. There was a man waiting for any challengers inside the gym to give advice. I was told not to use grass types, which didn't worry me seeing as I owned none. The gym was immense. From the outside it didn't look nearly as big but inside, I had to strain my neck to see the top of the building. As I stepped forward onto the platform, it suddenly shot upwards as I was propelled into the sky. Rather appropriate for a flying gym I suppose, but it still scared me to hell.

Up here there were narrow platforms that led to the gym trainers who were waiting to battle. My vertigo starting kicking in and I was terrified as I crawled my way along the platform to the first trainer. He was just standing there laughing at me. I'll show him not to laugh at me I thought as we began our battle. He sent out a level 9 Spearow, which I countered with Hoothoot. Despite my level advantage he nearly knocked me out, but Hoothoot managed to win the battle with 1 HP left, after Spearow decided to play around and use Leer a few times instead of delivering the knockout punch. The second trainer owned two Pokemon, two level 7 Pidgeys. They were no match for Hoothoot however, who dispatched them with ease.

Now however, was the main challenge. After healing up I stood face to face to Faulkner and just stared for a while before beginning to talk. He promised to show the real power of bird pokemon, and at that moment I started shivering nervously, uncontrollably. I was finally about to fight my first gym leader, the first step on the road to becoming the Pokemon Champion. His first Pokemon was a level 9 Pidgey. Hoothoot was used to taking out Pidgeys now, and managed to handle him without too much trouble. His next and last Pokemon was a level 13 Pidgeotto however. I had never encountered one of these, so I got my Pokedex out to check who it was. Apparently Pidgeotto was the evolved form of Pidgey, so I knew that I had to take plenty of care fighting it. Hoothoot fainted straight away, so I sent out Gastly to put it to sleep. With that being achieved, I switched to Totodile. However this move failed because Pidgeotto woke up as soon as I switched. Totodile hit as hard as it could, using Rage initially and then Water Gun, but when it's health was down to 50%, Pidgeotto used Roost to heal itself. This was incredibly frustrating. After a lot of back and forth, with numerous Roosts from Pidgeotto and Potions from me, Totodile was victorious! I had won my first gym badge! I was incredibly excited and couldn't stop yelling at the top of my lungs. Lucky the room is open to the air, so my voice didn't echo around the building. I was given the Zephyr badge and TM51 - Roost. I had completed the first step, on the long pathway towards becoming the Pokemon Champion, and it felt good.

Iridium - Part 4

Violet City
As I left the gym to go heal my Pokemon, I got a call on my PokeGear. It was Professor Elm. He said he had discovered something about the egg, that in order for it to hatch, it needs to travel with an active party. He told me to meet his assistant somewhere in Violet City and hung up. Where in Violet City, I had no idea. Great.

I went to the Pokemon Centre first to rest up my Pokemon from their battle with Falkner. Whilst that was being done I looked around the centre for Elm's assistant, with no success. I collected my Pokemon and went over to the Poke Mart to stock up on supplies. To my surprise, there was Elm's assistant inside. He thrust the egg into my arms, said a few words and left. I stood there with a confused look on my face as I had no idea what to do with the egg. I thought it best to carry it because it would get crushed if I stuck it in my bag along with all my other stuff. I went and bought some items and left.

Outside there was a girl there dressed in a kimono. She caught sight of me and my egg. She approached me and mentioned how the egg was passed from Mr. Pokemon then to Professor Elm and finally to me. After a few more works, she did a weird dance move and walked away. As she left, I wondered how earth she knew where I got the egg from. I quickly brushed away my thoughts and headed towards Route 36.

Route 36
A quick look at my PokeGear map revealed that I could take a small detour and explore the Ruins of Alph and end up back just south of Violet City. When I entered the route, in the distance was some sort of strange dancing tree. I asked the man there what it was and he didn't know, only saying it was blocking people from passing. Then out of the blue, he gave HM06 (Rock Smash). What a nice man. I immediately taught Rock Smash to Geodude.

Ruins of Alph
There really wasn't much to see here. Just a few old structures and a building used by the scientists who study the Ruins. I wondered into one of these structures and stumbled on a room with what seemed to be a puzzle in the middle. I went to take a closer look and saw it was like those small, cheap slider puzzles you got in a kids meals at PokeBurger except bigger and made of stone. The attendant who was there had no qualms with me attempting to solve it.

It didn't take long at all to solve it and as I slid the last panel into place, the whole puzzle glowed. The ground started to shudder and I began to wonder if I had set off some kind of ancient defence mechanism which would kill me in some horrible fashion. My morbid thoughts was interrupted when the floor underneath me gave way and Totodile and I plummeted down. Fortunately the drop wasn't too big and I was fine. A man was standing close to where I fell and instead of asking if I was okay, handed me an Unown Report, which was some kind of e-book reader with some information on a Pokemon called Unown. The exit was near the middle of this massive chamber so I walked along a few corridors to get to it. As I caught sight of the ladder, an odd black Pokemon seemed to jump off the wall. This was the Unown that the man was talking about. Totodile weakened it with a few attacks and I added it to my collection. [UNOWN | Lvl 5]

I returned to the surface and headed onto the route which led south.

Route 32
A man at the start of route gave me a Miracle Seed, which boosts Grass-type moves. Since I didn't have a Grass-type Pokemon with me, it was pretty useless at this point in time. I carried on catching a Hoppip which floated past me. [HOPPIP | M | Lvl 6].

Further along I noticed a Pokemon munching on some grass in the middle of the route. I checked my Pokedex and saw it was a Mareep, an Electric-type Pokemon. This would make a nice addition to my team. I sent out Totodile, forgetting that water was weak against electricity. However Mareep didn't seem to know any electric moves which made attacking and catching it pretty simple.

Next to be caught was a Bellsprout, whom Spearow almost knocked out in one go. Along the route there were a few trainers, all who gave my Pokemon very little trouble. Along the docks there were a few fisherman who were ..uh.. fishing. I guessed they would be using water Pokemon which would be perfect for training my Mareep. It's lack of Electric-type moves was a worry so I had to train it against wild Pokemon until it did learn a Electric-type move. And sure enough at Level 10, it learned ThunderShock.

I approached the fishermen and they all were keen for a battle. My Mareep wiped the floor with them. There was one fisherman who sported four Magikarp in his team. I rested Mareep from that battle and gave Spearow a chance to battle. Spearow was not happy at how little a fight the Magikarp put up.

I went onto the route and saw a Pokemon Centre was up ahead. A man outside was trying to sell Slowpoke Tails for 1,000,000 bucks. I laughed at him and went into the Centre. While my Pokemon were being rested, a fisherman offered me a fishing rod, which I accpted. To be honest it looked like a piece of Magikrap. I thanked him, collected my Pokemon and withdrew Bellsprout from my PC.

A Bird Keeper outside saw my badge that I got from Falkner and challenged me to a battle. I gave both Geodude and Mareep a battle each and they were both too strong.

The entrance to Union Cave now stood before me. Who knows what I would find inside.

A Heart of Gold: A Pokemon Story - Part 4

I had defeated the first gym and now was time to move on to get my second badge. I walked outside the gym and got a phone call. It was Professor Elm. He said that he wanted me to carry that egg that I had given him from Mr. Pokemon, and that his assistant was at the Poke Mart in the city so I could go pick up the egg from there, so that is just what I did, healing my pokemon along the way.

Violet City Poke Mart

I walked into the Poke Mart and there was a guy standing in front of the counter. He asked if I was Hedger and I said yes, and then gave me a package that my mum got me. It was a super potion which I was pretty pleased about, considering they were fairly expensive at $700. I bought another one anyway, just to be safe. I went up and talked to the Professor?s assistant, who then gave me the pokemon egg, telling me to take care of it. As I walked out of the Poke Mart, some lady came up to me and examined my egg, telling me to take care of it. Then she spun around and walked off. Some people are weird here?

Route 36

I decided to leave to the west of the city, and saw a couple of guys. One said something about a tree blocking the way to Ecruteak City while the other guy gave me the HM06, which was Rock Smash. He said it would come in handy for smashing boulders, and warned me of pokemon finding it very hard to forget hidden moves. I saw a tree in the way, which looked like a tree pokemon, rather than a normal tree. It moved about but not out of the way so I decided to leave it alone and explore the Ruins of Alph.

Ruins of Alph

As I entered the ruins, there were a lot of rocks around so I decided to practice the rock smashing technique after teaching it to my Onix. When I smashed one of the rocks, I noticed an item on the ground and examined it more closely, as it was actually a Rare Candy. It seemed like a fine pokemon treat. When I smashed one of the other rocks though, it was actually a Geodude who attacked me. After lowering its health, I threw a poke ball at it and it caught him. I wasn?t planning on using him though. I managed to pick up a few Old Ambers and a Helix Fossil as well as a yellow shard so I was pretty pleased with that. I then found a hyper potion through one of the tunnels. I found a house where I had to do a puzzle and I managed to complete it but just fell through the floor. Some other person was down there as well who gave me an Unown Report which records Unown?s when you capture them. There were also a few wild unowns there but were pretty easy to kill. I made my way to the ladder and left the place.

Route 32

So a little walk to the right and I was onto Route 32. Some guy stopped me and gave me a Miracle Seed, which improved grass type pokemon but even though I didn?t need it, I was grateful and said thanks before moving on. I caught a Hoppip and Mareep in the grass while making quick work of the simple trainers around there. Also managed to find a repel, a great ball and a technical machine which had Bullet Seed. One fisherman had a whole lot of Magikarp so I used the chance to train my Onix a bit, using the boosted exp bonus to help grow a few levels in an easy battle. I finally walked down and found a pokemon center, using the chance to heal my pokemon while depositing my Hoppip and Geodude. I also talked to an old man who gave me an old rod to fish with but it looked too out of date to catch anything worthwhile I also talked to a guy who gave me two lure balls for collecting Apricorns. I walked to the south and found a cave but there was a trainer just before it, and seemed to look up to Falkner, and had a few bird pokemon, although Quilava defeated him with ease. I found a Shell Bell nearby and then walked over to the cave, which was known as Union Cave. What troubles would the cave bring to me?

Its rather fascinating to see all of you guys playing the same game but have slightly different paths!
keep up the good work guys!

Don't have time to write an update at the moment.

I'm wondering whether it would be best to keep Hoothoot or whether should I stop training him and use Togepi, because Togetic/Togekiss is overall better than Hoothoot. Togepi is very versatile as well, it and Gastly/Haunter/Gengar can cover most of the special typings (electric, psychic, ghost) to go with Typhlosian being fire.

----------

oh yeah I have Totodile. They can cover fire types too :p

Yes I added a bit afterwards because I remembered :p
