Story A Managers Journey to the top - Notts Fall To Heavy Defeat Against Yorkshire

Not sure yet. I haven't played the second day yet. Might play it on Sunday or tomorrow morning before cricket in the afternoon.

Anyway, thanks for the comments everyone. Greatly appreciated and keeps me going.

It was day 2 now and could Broad and Sidebottom both make their way to 100. The partnership was also only 3 runs short of 200. I was hoping both would make their centuries and maybe get to 400 in our first innings.

Sidebottom was facing the first ball of the day. First ball was a dot. Second ball was cut away for 4 by Sidebottom to take him to 98* and the partnership to 201. Sidebottom hit another boundary next ball to bring up his 100 and he was very happy with that. He continued to attack scoring 3 runs off the next ball and it finished with 12 runs off the first over. Broad was trapped in front however, first ball of the next over for 84, only adding 1 run to his overnight score. He was kicking himself for that. Pattinson was at the crease now. 12 runs needed to get another bonus point. We got to the 350, Sidebottom now 113* with Pattinson getting started on 7*. Sidebottom was put down in the next over which could have proved costly. Sidebottom was given another life, being bowled off a no ball. Pattinson made his way to 20 and was looking pretty good at the crease. We were 379/9 getting close to that final bonus point. Pattinson got out for 25 though off the bowling of Chapple leaving Sidebottom on 126* and we finished 388 all out.

There was still 46 minutes left in the first session so we had a chance to take some early wickets. Sidebottom was opening the bowling, even though he would be a bit tired after his innings this morning. Adams opened from the other end. Adams struck early, bowling Horton out for 6. They managed to get through to lunch at 35/1.

Adams continued after bowling well in the first session and he troubled the batsman yet again in his first over, one just seaming away past the outside edge. Adams and Broad were taken off for Pattinson and also Sidebottom to come back on and it proved well as Sidebottom took the wicket of Loye for 46 in his first over and it was 83/2. Swann was brought on after 31 over's which was a good move introducing the spinner. Andre Adams got the big wicket of du Plessis for 65 but they were still in a very good position at 150/3. No runs came off the rest off the over and the umpires signalled tea on the second day at 150/3 with Sutton on 27* with Adams having figures of 2/34 and Sidebottom with figures of 1/36, both bowling really well.

Swann was to continue the bowling after tea and had an LBW shout in the first over of the session turned down. Swann and Adams continued to trouble the batsman, beating the outside edge a few times and a few close LBW appeals. Adams was taken off for Sidebottom to come back on. Swann struck with the wicket of Chilton for 20, chipped back up to the bowler which made them 205/4. Shankar only made 4 before edging behind off Sidebottom which gave us 2 quick wickets which was good. Swann was taken off after 15 pretty good overs for Samit Patel to bowl his first over. They were 249/5 with 9 over's until the new ball. Voges decided to give himself a bowl close to when the new ball would be available. Broad took the wicket of Sutton, trapped in front for 82 and Croft was also out LBW in the same over for 20 and it was now 252/7. Broad also struck with the wicket of Mahmood next ball, out LBW for a golden duck and Broad would be on a hattrick next over. Only 1 came from the next over off Voges so Chapple would be on strike to face Broad's hattrick ball. It was a full toss though and there was no score.

They battled through to the end of the day, to be at 256/8 at stumps, Chapple on 5* and Anderson yet to score from 10 balls. Broad had figures of 3/41 off 12 over's, them 3 wickets coming in the same over. Adams had 2/55 from 18 over's and bowled really well beating the outside edge on several occassions. Sidebottom had also bowled well to have figures of 2/61 off 19 over's at the end of the day with Swann having 1/58 off 15 over's. Pattinson, Voges and Patel had also bowled during the day but hadn't taken a wicket.

Lancashire vs Nottinghamshire 3rd Day

Squads_LAN_v_Notts.jpg

We were in a strong position going into Day 3 with a 132 run lead and only 2 wickets in hand for Nottinghamshire. We wanted to knock these last few batsman over quickly so we could have another bat and set a good target for Lancashire to chase.

Andre Adams and Ryan Sidebottom started with the ball on Day 3 in hope to take these last 2 wickets. The new ball was available after 1 over and we took it straight away, letting Sidebottom take the first over with it. The bowling option worked as Sidebottom had Chapple trapped in front for 6 and it was now 257/9. Anderson fell in the next over, clean bowled by Adams to have Lancashire all out for 259. Sidebottom, Adams and Broad all chipped in with 3 wickets each and Swann took the other wicket.

The top order would want to redeem themselves with a high score in the second innings to keep their spot in the side. Jefferson got out for a duck in the first over which had us at 0/1. Hales and Patel were going along nicely, Hales on 41* and Patel on 23*, 10 minutes before lunch on Day 3. We went through to be 74/1 at lunch, Hales getting closer to his maiden First Class fifty and Patel working the ball around on 26* with only 2 fours.

It took Hales 2 balls after lunch to get to his fifty, with a 4 and a 2 and he was happy with that. His maiden FC fifty in only his third game and second where he actually batted. Patel moved on into the 40's and was also eyeing a fifty. He was caught behind though for 42 off Anderson who got his second wicket. The captain, Voges now came to the crease and hope to build a strong partnership with Hales. Hales couldn't believe it when a few over's later, Hales edged Anderson and what would have been a regulation catch for first or even second slip was taken by the keeper as there were no slips in place diving well to his right and Hales walked away, not believing it but out for 68. Voges started quickly, going to 20 off only 25 balls. We had taken the lead up to 280 with 45 minutes to go in the second session. I didn't know whether to declare because there was bound to be some rain on the final day. I decided that I would declare at tea and the message was taken out to get some runs before declaring at tea. Wagh got out, trapped in front for 13 off Mahmood. Klokker was now at the crease. Voges didn't declare though at tea and I was thinking the same way, as it was pretty easy to score 130 runs in a session and the forecast was for rain in the afternoon and evening, although there probably would be at least 30 over's played over them 2 sessions and the lead was only 327. Voges was on 42* and Klokker was on 23*, the score 198/4. Voges said he would put on another 30-50 runs before declaring.

Klokker got himself out on 39, caught at short leg off the bowling of Mahmood. His 39 came in only 52 balls. Voges was on 48* and would hope he could get his fifty this time around after getting out for 44 in the first innings. Anderson bowled a wonderful over to Voges while he was on 29, forcing 4 play and misses outside the offstump and an LBW appeal probably just missing leg stump. Anderson was unlucky not to have more than 3 wickets with 4 LBW appeals, 9 near misses and 1 catchable shot. He got his fifty in the next over though. The lead was 355 now and only 27 minutes had been in this session so far. Voges got out for 51, trapped in front by Anderson and he decided to wait until the next wicket before declaring. Adams was trapped in front for a duck and Voges signalled Swann to come in as he was declaring. We had 226/7 dec. in our second innings, giving them a target of 356 in their second innings, which would not be easy to chase. Anderson was pick of the bowlers for them taking 5/58 and deserved another 1 or 2 wickets.

We got our first wicket in the 4th over, Loye trapped in front by Adams for 7 and it was 14/1. Horton only made 14, before being bowled by Sidebottom and we were in a strong position with them at 28/2. Sidebottom was taken off after 5 over's to give Stuart Broad a bowl. The change worked as he bowled a great ball, an inswinging good length ball just seaming away to straighten and catching the edge of Sutton where Klokker took an easy catch behind the stumps. Pattinson was given the ball in place of Adams with 17 minutes left in the final session of Day 3. He got to bowl 3 over's and only conceded 1 run over those over's. All bowlers other than Pattinson that had bowled all had taken a wicket and they were 47/3 at stumps.

Your in a great position heading into day four, you really should close out the win here.
Your bowling is incredibly strong, with Sidebottom, Adams, Broad and Swann!!!

EDITED...

You forgot Graeme Swann as well. That's Nottinghamshire's strength. It is just annoying finding that good fourth pace bowler. Pattinson hasn't got any wickets this match so far and hasn't really troubled any batsman. Will be looking for a good fourth pace bowler during the offseason.

Yeah, your presentation is very simple... but very effective.

The ONLY one thing I can suggest is, make it so you don't need to scroll across the page to read it all.

It's tough since I'm really just doing this for when I'm bored which is now most of the time, now it is the holidays and I would have to resize all the images to do that and I really don't feel like doing that for every scorecard. Anyway, I have started playing the final day and hope to post an update over the next 45 minutes.

Lancashire vs Nottinghamshire 4th Day

Squads_LAN_v_Notts.jpg

We were in a strong position going into Day 4 and would probably get a win as long as rain didn't save Lancashire. du Plessis was in on 21* with Chilton going slow on 3* off 34 balls. We would attack from the start and hope to get a few wickets early in the day. Sidebottom was to bowl the first over.

The first over brought upon a boundary from du Plessis which were the only runs scored. Adams took the ball to bowl from the other end. There was a lot of swing early on and both bowlers were troubling the batsman. It took 10.4 over's into the fourth day for the first wicket to fall, Sidebottom catching the edge of Chilton for a regulation catch for Voges in the slips. Broad was brought on a few over's later for Adams who had bowled really well in that spell. Swann was finally brought on and he struck in his second over, getting du Plessis trapped in front for 59. They were now 128/5 and we were definately on track to win. Croft got out to Swann without scoring and that definately lifted the team. Pattinson finally got his first wicket of the match, getting Shankar trapped in front by a yorker for 32. Swann took his third wicket in the last over before lunch, bowling out Chapple for 2. Anderson only lasted 2 balls, falling to Swann trapped in front and that was 2 wickets in the last over before lunch. They were 136/9 and we were most probably going to win unless the last 2 sessions were washed out. Swann had great figures of 4/3 off 6 over's and he would be looking to take his fifth wicket.

You had to be kidding me. The second session was all washed out and the third session was almost washed out leaving 3 over's left for us to take a wicket. I really wanted to win the match. Sidebottom was given the ball in hope to take the final wicket. Mahmood and Keedy were at the crease. First over only brought one run but Swann took the last wicket, turning the ball a mile taking out Mahmood's off stump and they were all out for 137 with 1.4 over's to spare in the day. Swann finished with figures of 6.2 over's, 4 maidens, 5/3. The rain nearly saved Lancashire but what a close match in the end. I was happy that we actually got the win this match. We won by 218 runs, Sidebottom getting MOTM for his 126* and 5 wickets.

Standings After April

CCTableApril.jpg

We sat in fourth place in the County Championship with 33 points having 1 win and 1 draw. Our win from our only game in the Challenge Trophy had us in third place but that didn't really show anything as we had only played 1 game. We would hope to improve our position in both formats over the next few months.
