Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Nine
statsafter93rg.jpg

At last Briggs can breathe a huge sigh of relief at his batting display in the shorter version of the game and should feel a lot more comfortable at that level. His promotion up the order worked well, despite the 3 run outs, it was overall a very good peformance from Briggs which merited yet another man of the match award

well done brigsey :) how many mom awards is that now?

good to see ya getting some runs in teh shorter vers of the game :D

didnt matter when chasing 160, just had to make sure he got the runs..... and 83 in 110 balls is still pretty quick going.

83 off 110 isnt that bad! like I said, he had to slow down because wickets were tumbling so probably played the right way considering what was happening around him! Let this be the start of a good run in one day cricket!

Yorkshire vs Australia
Headingly

The touring Australians stop off at Yorkshire to take them on in a 4 day warm up match in preperation for the upcoming Ashes series. With Yorkshire currently at the top of their game and looking to give the youngsters a chance to shine and Australia looking to get their batsmen and bowlers into form in the longer version of the game, it should be an interesting game. Stand in captain Anthony McGrath and Australian captain Ricky Ponting met in the middle to check the conditions before the coin toss.

Both captains seemed to agree it was a nice pitch for both batting and bowling on, and for once the Yorkshire groundsman had not prepared a grassy wicket! The coin toss was then done.

So Yorkshire won the toss and have elected to bat first. Whatever McGrath elected to do, it would have been tough either way so maybe batting first was the right thing to do. The teams were announced and play was ready to get under way.

big test for briggs... see if he can hack it at the top level against warne, mcgrath et al.

A full strength Aussie side, it would be a big achievement to take any wickets or score some runs here! Good Luck!

Advantage Australia As Yorkshire Crumble
At Headingly

Yorkshire were bowled out for 191 by the touring Australians as they seemed to be overwhelmed by the best team in the world at the moment. McGrath and Gillespie's firey opening spell removed both opening batsmen for Yorkshire and it took a very determined effort lower down the order from the tail to get Yorkshire up to the score they finished on. The top order will be dissapointed not to have managed to get some runs on this pitch and only the youngster Briggs showed any attacking instincts to try and counter the Aussie bowlers. Jason Gillespie finished with 4 wickets and Brett Lee got 3 despite being expensive.

From Briggs View
If not for Briggs effort up the order, Yorkshire would have been bowled out for a much lower score than they managed. His 44 came at a time when wickets were falling and when McGrath and Lee were bowling some amazing deliveries. Briggs countered there bowling with some gutsy attacking shots and at times rode his luck especially when he was dropped on 22 and caught off a no ball on 36 but it was his positive approach which enspired the tail to play some shots and get Yorkshire to 191.

Australia Take Control
At Headingly

Australia moved into a commanding position to win the match as they established a 183 run lead over Yorkshire after their first innings. Some contributions all round the batting order helped Australia to reach 374 and it was boosted by a fantastic partnership by Shane Warne and Brett Lee down the order but put on 103. Deon Kruis took 3 early wickets to put Australia in trouble but Damien Martyn steadied the ship with a nice innings along with Michael Clarke and Adam Gilchrist who showed everyone what he was capable of hitting five sixes in his aggressive innings. Yorkshire's bowlers toiled away and got their rewards with Kruis and Dawson both getting 3 wickets.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs bowled some fine spells to some of the best batsmen in the world as he picked up 2 wickets from his 24 overs. He caused trouble all around with his aggressive bowling and was not trembling even when Gilchrist was at his aggressive best. Overall Briggs should be pleased to have bowled at these batsmen as he can only learn from these experiences and take them with him in the future.
