Story A Season In The Life Of.....................Me...!![C2005]

Just to bring us all down to earth, Briggs isn't a real player, and is being played on a computer game.

Point being..........

None of the stories in this stories thread are real and are all being played on a computer game so whats the difference?

Briggs To The Rescue But Botha Fights Back!
At Headingly

Yorkshire will be dissapointed with their first innings effort especially after winning the toss as Derbyshire bowled them out for 318. After a bright start by the Derbyshire bowlers, Yorkshire fought back and it took another fine innings from Shaun Briggs to resuce them. Briggs looked like a man posessed as he struck some superb boundaries on the way to his 5th century of the season in what is turning out to be an amazing debut season for the youngster. At one stage it looked as if Yorkshire would surpass 400, especially when Briggs was in, but some fine bowling by spinner Ant Botha restricted Yorkshire as he picked up 4 wickets in the innings.

From Briggs View
Yet again it was Briggs to the rescue for Yorkshire as he came in at 14 for 2 and took Yorkshire to safety with a fine century. Briggs smashed the bowlers to all parts in his innings and looked to be in Twenty20 mode as he hammered some huge shots to the boundary, but despite that, wickets fell around him all the time which at some stages restricted Briggs' shot playing and slowed down his innings. Despite that though, Briggs still played yet another superb innings and his team mates will thank him for guiding them to a decent score.

Briggs came in with Yorkshire in a spot of bother

briggslbwappeal2ok.jpg

Briggs survived this huge LBW appeal from Dean and must have feared the worst judging from the replays

briggs500jy.jpg

Briggs played a patient innings before reaching 50

briggs41fg.jpg

But once Briggs reached 50, he seemingly became a man posessed playing all sorts of extraordinary shots

briggsrunoutchance1ns.jpg

Briggs attacking instincts nearly cost him though as a missed run out opportunity went begging for Derbyshire as Briggs had seemingly given up on any hopes of making it

briggs1002ho.jpg

After that though, Briggs didnt look back and went on to score his 5th century of the season

briggsout3hj.jpg

But one attacking shot too many proved to be Briggs downfall as he was clean bowled by Lungley

Come on Derbyshire! Ant Botha with a good four wicket haul there! I was expecting better from Welchy and Dean as they are our premier seamers, that LBW shout looked out too me!

Lol, yes i thought it was going to be given out too when playing and in all honesty i still think it should have been out! Maybe the height and the fact that he bowled from around the wicket swayed the decision my way :)

Yorkshire Take Control As Derbyshire Stutter In Reply
At Headingly

Yorkshire took control of the game today as they bowled out Derbyshire in their first innings reply for a mere 149. In what has been a rain interupted game which has seen day 2 completely washed out, Yorkshire will be hoping to get some quick runs in their second innings as they look to build on their 169 run lead. Derbyshire never really got going after loosing two early wickets and when Ian Harvey came into the attack, Derbyshire simply had no answer to his fantastic variations of pace and swing which he was getting. Harvey finished with 3 wickets while Jamie Bryant top scored for Derbyshire with 56.

From Briggs View
Shaun Briggs would have been pleased with his bowling performance in the Derbyshire innings as he picked up 2 wickets in what was a good pitch for the seamers. Briggs bowled very good line and lengths to restrict the shot playing of the Derbyshire batsmen and even though he had to wait until his 12th over to get his first wicket, it was still a fine spell of bowling. Briggs picked up the wickets of two tail enders who were both caught at slip but it would have been fairer to see a few more wickets in that column to represent how Briggs really bowled.

Shaun Briggs 12.5-4-38-2
1st Spell
1st Over: Briggs starts up with a maiden
2nd Over: Briggs bowls a no ball in his second over and Bryant obviously heard the call and took the opportunity to smash it to the boundary. Later in the over though he edges one behind which Blakey makes a meal off and gets away with
3rd Over: Maiden over
4th Over: Briggs bowls consecutive maidens as the pressure increases on the Derbyshire batters
5th Over: Briggs bowls a no ball
End Of Spell 5-3-13-0
2nd Spell
6th Over: Single picked up from Briggs' return over
7th Over: Bryant helps himself to a fine boundary through the covers
8th Over: More off the same from Bryant as he this time hooks Briggs away for 4
9th Over: Briggs thinks he's got his first wicket as Welch hits one straight to Kruis, only to turn around and see the no ball signal from the umpire. Welch then plays and misses at the next one to add to Briggs frustration
10th Over: Maiden over
11th Over: Welch hits Briggs away through point for 4
12th Over: WICKET! Briggs finally gets some success as Walker edges one straight into the reliable hands of Jaques at second slip
13th Over: WICKET! Lungley is dropped by Jaques at second slip but he makes up for it later on in the over when he takes a fine diving catch to dismiss Dean and to bring an end to the Derbyshire innings

Rain strikes immediately as the players head off and would not return until the next morning

briggsinbowling8dv.jpg

Briggs comes in to the attack with Yorkshire already in command

blakeydrop2sg.jpg

Blakey drops the dangerman Bryant as the frustration mounts for Briggs

But that frustration is later turned to delight as Briggs picks up the wicket of Walker, and then in his next over, the wicket of Dean

McGrath Leads The Way As Yorkshire Near Victory
At Headingly

A stunning century from Anthony McGrath in Yorkshire's second innings has left Derbyshire in trouble on day 4. With over 6 hours of play remaning, Derbyshire are going to have to fight there way to a draw if they want to take anything from this game as McGrath simply took apart the Derbyshire attack in search of quick runs. McGrath's attacking century came from only 115 balls and included 16 four's and 4 sixes. Yorkshire eventually declared on 234 for 4, giving them a huge lead of 403 which at the moment in time is not even a possibilty for Derbyshire, unless someone pulls something astonishing out of the hat. Ant Botha was again the star with the ball for Derbyshire, which was not hard considering most of the bowlers took stick from the Yorkshire attack, but even so he still managed to pick up 3 wickets to go with his 4 wicket haul in the first innings.

From Briggs View
From the moment Briggs arrived at the crease the scoring rate suddenly increased. McGrath was only on 30 odd from 70 odd deliveries so you could say whatever message Briggs passed on to him when he arrived at the middle, McGrath took it and hammered it home. Briggs short stay at the crease was mainly down to Yorkshire looking for quick runs, but even so he still showed us all what he is capable of with some nicely placed shots capped off by some huge six hitting. 18 from 18 balls may not sound a lot but it certinally paved the way for McGrath to let loose.

firstball1lu.jpg

Briggs gets ready to face his first ball, with the score on 107 after 42 overs - 13 overs later Yorkshire had added 127 runs.

shots8kl.jpg

Briggs struck some nice boundaries in his short stay which included 2 fours and a six

briggsout21jn.jpg

But one attacking shot too many proved to be Briggs downfall as he is cleaned up by Ant Botha

c mon Derbyshire, show some pride in your club.
Knuckle down and fight back.
