Yorkshire Ease To Victory
At Headingly

Yorkshire eased to a 7 wicket victory with 5 overs to spare at Headingly with a win which goes some way to boost their promotion hopes. A fine and patient 66 from Phil Jaques eased Yorkshire home and with support from Shaun Briggs and Anthony McGrath, the score was never going to cause any sort of difficulty for the Yorkshire batsmen. After a bright start from Kent which saw them get the early wicket of Matthew Wood with the score on 5, Jaques and Briggs took the game away from them with an aggressive 75 run partnership and once Briggs was dismissed by an amazing diving catch by Rob Key, McGrath came in and took over from Briggs, knocking the ball around. It was fitting that Jaques would hit the winning runs with a beautiful sweep for 4 as Kent reflected on a defeat which did no good for their promotion hopes.

From Briggs View
Briggs seems to be settling in at the top of the order very well as again he played the roll of agressor in a fine innings which saw him score 46 from 49 deliveries including 6 boundaries. From the first ball he faced which he smacked away for 4, you knew Briggs was going to keep going that way and despite a missed chance off the bowling of Saggers, Briggs didnt look back and it eventually took an amazing catch from the suddenly athletic Rob Key who took an amazing diving catch on the boundary to dismiss Briggs, 4 runs short of his half century.

This chance went begging for Saggers as Briggs escaped

But it was soon all over for Briggs, thanks to some athletic fielding from Rob Key who was congratulated by Saggers (Above/Below)

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Ten
statsafter105ld.jpg

A couple of solid batting performances at the top of the innings has raised Briggs batting average considerably from what it was at the end of the 8th game. Opening the batting seems to suit Briggs better rather than coming in at 4 or 5 when the pressure is on and the field is spread. His bowling remains very good despite no wicket in this game, he still has a very good tally of wickets in the shorter version of the game.

briggsy are you able to do a little update so we can see who is leading the batting averages for both competitions and so we can see how your going comparred to everyone else? thanks mate

First Class Statistics

Most Runs
mostrunsfc7wo.jpg

Briggs just misses out on the top 10 here, with his 937 first class runs probably putting him a close 11th or 12th

Most Wickets
wicketsfc8rp.jpg

Briggs finds himself 10th position, the best ranking all rounder with 44 wickets

Best Average
averagefc6te.jpg

Another respectable position of 9th for Briggs in and amongst some great players currently in the county game

Most Centuries
centuriesfc8dk.jpg

Only the great Zimbabwean Andy Flower stops Briggs from claiming top spot here, but 5 centuries is still very respectable

One Day Statistics

Most Runs
mostrunsoneday5do.jpg

Briggs' poor start to the one day season has prevented him from making the top 10 here and his 233 runs would be lucky to get him anywhere near the top 20 or 30, but after a recent surge of form, he may be up in the top 10 before the end of the season

Most Wickets
wicketsoneday8ad.jpg

Briggs again misses out on the top 10, but only just, his 20 wickets is not for behind the positons currently held above him and surely he will be up there soon

great job. unlucky about the start to the one day series but congrates on the performance so far with both the bat and ball

Good to see Ant Botha get some rewards for the cracking job he does for us in the one day format! Great reading once again, congrats Briggesy!

Scotland vs Yorkshire
The Grange

Yorkshire make the trip up to Edinbrough to take on the less fancied Scotland in their second Totesport League game in as many days. Yorkshire will be full of confidence running over from their last game against Kent in which they won by 7 wickets, and so making the trip to face Scotland who are currently struggling near the bottom of the table, should be somewhat more of an easier game but Scotland have pulled off a few shocks this season so it should be an interesting game. Both captains checked the conditions of the pitch before play got underway.

conditions5tu.jpg

So with a pretty decent pitch served up by the groundsman, and the overhead conditions, you would think this pitch would be a delight for the bowlers, but that decision would be left to the captains who met in the middle for the coin toss.

So, stand in captain Lockyear won the toss and elected to bat first, so for the second game in a row, Yorkshire will be chasing instead of setting, something they seemed to handle well in the last game. The teams were soon announced and both sets of players made their way onto the pitch.

Scotland Struggle As Yorkshire Gain Control
At The Grange

Yorkshire took control of the game against Scotland who were bowled out for only 153, 10 overs short of the full quota of overs. After a bright start by the openers who put on 42 together, a flury of wickets fell soon after and never really stopped as Scotland struggled to build any solid partnerships in the innings. Tim Bresnan was the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers as he picked up 4 despite being quite expensive, while Lockyear top scored for Scotland with a very aggressive 44, but it looks set to be another victory for Yorkshire.

From Briggs View
Briggs was back in the wickets today as he picked up 3 Scottish wickets despite only bowling just over 5 overs. Briggs looked back to his best in this game, bowling some very accurate lines and even though 2 of his wickets were quite debatable, the umpire had the final say and thats all that counts. Briggs was also very economical too, only going away to the boundary once in his spells as the Scottish really struggled to cope with his fine bowling.

Shaun Briggs 5.4-0-14-3
1st Over: Single picked up from Briggs opening over
2nd Over: WICKET! Briggs strikes as Watkins is given out LBW despite replays showing the ball was clearly going to miss leg stump
3rd Over: Lockyear hits Briggs away through the covers for 4 but is then dropped by Kruis next ball
4th Over: Briggs bowls a no ball, his first of the game
5th Over: WICKET! Briggs strikes again with yet another debatable LBW decision this time against Lockyear the dangerman who did not look too pleased to see the umpires finger raised
6th Over: WICKET! Nothing wrong with this one as Higgins is caught plum infront going for the big shot but missing completely

Briggs And White Guide Yorkshire Home
At The Grange

A fantastic unbeaten 78 from Shaun Briggs and a quickfire 31 from Craig White guided Yorkshire home today by 6 wickets over Scotland. Despite loosing 4 wickets during the run chase, Yorkshire never looked in any danger of loosing the game, and Briggs' knock solidified their chase as yet again he showed what a good opener he can be in the shorter version of the game. Together with White, he guided Yorkshire home despite some Scottish resistance which saw Biggs pick up 3 of the 4 Yorkshire wickets to fall.

From Briggs View
Another knock from Briggs in the one day format of the game, and yet again he shows his maturity by holding the Yorkshire innings together even though wickets fell around him. His knock of 78 from 80 deliveries which included 7 fours and 2 sixes was perfect considering the conditions and the pressure of being wickets down. At the end Craig White came to the crease and ensured Briggs did not play any rash shots by adding his experience to the equation which in the end saw Yorkshire home safely.
