Yorkshire Ease To Victory
At Headingly
Yorkshire eased to a 7 wicket victory with 5 overs to spare at Headingly with a win which goes some way to boost their promotion hopes. A fine and patient 66 from Phil Jaques eased Yorkshire home and with support from Shaun Briggs and Anthony McGrath, the score was never going to cause any sort of difficulty for the Yorkshire batsmen. After a bright start from Kent which saw them get the early wicket of Matthew Wood with the score on 5, Jaques and Briggs took the game away from them with an aggressive 75 run partnership and once Briggs was dismissed by an amazing diving catch by Rob Key, McGrath came in and took over from Briggs, knocking the ball around. It was fitting that Jaques would hit the winning runs with a beautiful sweep for 4 as Kent reflected on a defeat which did no good for their promotion hopes.
From Briggs View
Briggs seems to be settling in at the top of the order very well as again he played the roll of agressor in a fine innings which saw him score 46 from 49 deliveries including 6 boundaries. From the first ball he faced which he smacked away for 4, you knew Briggs was going to keep going that way and despite a missed chance off the bowling of Saggers, Briggs didnt look back and it eventually took an amazing catch from the suddenly athletic Rob Key who took an amazing diving catch on the boundary to dismiss Briggs, 4 runs short of his half century.
Briggs and Wood make their way out to begin the Yorkshire innings
Briggs gets set to face his first ball of the innings
Briggs yet again showed what he is capable off with some aggressive shots
This chance went begging for Saggers as Briggs escaped
But it was soon all over for Briggs, thanks to some athletic fielding from Rob Key who was congratulated by Saggers (Above/Below)
