Hoggard Leads The Way As Lancashire Tumble
At Old Trafford
A brilliant bowling display from Yorkshire, and in particular Matthew Hoggard, led to Lancashire being bowled out for a very low score of 104, giving Yorkshire a lead of 288. After a poor start from Lancashire which saw them loose early wickets, it looked as if the rain would save them but it was not to be as 2 hours later they were back out and had 2 hours until the end of the day. Hoggard ensured that Lancashire would not survive those 2 hours and Yorkshire bowled their rivals out in the final over of the day, giving them the chance to enforce the follow on, which captain Craig White did, and to good effect as his bowlers will come out fresh tomorrow morning. Brad Hodge top scored for Lancashire in their innings with 21 but all 5 Yorkshire bowlers used by White enjoyed success on a pitch which is becoming difficult to bat on.
From Briggs View
It was to be a mixed bag from Briggs as his 7 over stint brough success but at the same time frustration for the young bowler. Briggs came into the attack straight after the rain break and to good effect as he removed dangerman Stuart Law who was beaten by the low bounce and caught plum infront but, the next over would be the frustration. Bowling to new batsman Mal Loye, Briggs forced the batsman into 2 edges from 2 consecutive balls. Both went flying towards fielders in the slip courdon, the first one went just above second slip who dived as high as he could but to no success as the ball went away for 4. The next ball was more simple, the ball went straight to Vaughan at point, but he put it down as the England captain made a horendous mistake, but luckily for him it did not cost the team. Briggs went on to cause more trouble for the batsmen in his 7 overs and will be hoping for more luck and better catching in the second innings.
Shaun Briggs 7-2-13-1
1st Over: Briggs starts up with a maiden over
2nd Over: WICKET! Great start for Briggs as he gets rid of potential dangerman Stuart Law who misjudges a ball which keeps low and strikes him dead infront, next ball Loye clips one away which goes in the air but through the legs of Harvey at square leg who misses the catch and the ball rolls away for 4
3rd Over: More frustration for Briggs as Loye edges two times in a row but both chances are missed as Jaques dive is not enough and Vaughan puts a regulation catch down
4th Over: Briggs obviously pumped up from his previous over hits Hodge with a bouncer. Single comes from the over
5th Over: 3 runs picked up from the over
6th Over: Briggs bowls his second maiden
7th Over: A single comes from what would be Briggs final over
Vaughan advises Briggs as he comes in to the attack, but obviously not on how to catch
Delight for Briggs as he gets rid of Stuart Law
But that delight would soon turn to dismay as two chances go begging
With a lead of 288, the follow on is enforced by Yorkshire
