Vaughan and Jaques Guide Yorkshire Home
At Edgbaston
A solid partnership between Michael Vaughan and Phil Jaques led Yorkshire home in their chase as they beat Warwickshire by 5 wickets. The 135 run partnership was just what Yorkshire needed after the early loss of Briggs in only the second over, and it was that partnership which would build the foundations for a comfortable victory in the end. Despite going into the 43rd over, the victory never looked in doubt, despite some very tight bowling from the Warwickshire bowlers, but in his quest for wickets, Nick Knight bowled out all of his frontline bowlers and was left with part timers Ian Bell and Trevor Penny to bowl at the death and it would be that, that let him down. In the end, Vaughan top scored for Yorkshire with a fine 70, while suprisingly, Trevor Penny picked up 2 wickets for Warwickshire.
From Briggs View
After despatching his very first ball from Heath Streak away to the boundary, it looked like it was going to be another commanding performance at the top of the innings from Briggs. It was not to be though as an amazing diving catch from Streak standing at a very close point saw Briggs depart for only 4. Briggs will be looking for some form with the bat in the next game against Durham as his last couple of scores havent been as good as he may have hoped.
