Hoggard Rips Through Durham
At Headingly

Matthew Hoggard produced a deadly spell of bowling to end what looked to be a spirited fightback by the Durham batsmen. Some solid defence and well placed shots at one stage looked to be slowly taking Durham to safety and a draw, but it was Hoggard who would have the last say, picking up 4 of his 5 wickets in a deadly 7 over spell. Yorkshire struggled for early wickets and it took them until the 39th over to get the first wicket with the score only on 52, showing how defensively Durham were playing. The top three showed the most resistance, especially in Mike Hussey who scored his 37 runs from 210 balls, but when he was caught and bowled by Hoggard, the wickets came at quick rates and the final 8 batsmen contributed only 19 runs to the total as Durham were bowled out for 129, just like in their first innings as Yorkshire romped to yet another huge victory.

From Briggs View
Briggs failed to produce the firery bowling he showed in the first innings which brought him 5 wickets, but still looked energetic and lively as he picked up one wicket from his 12 overs. Briggs still managed to cause problems for the Durham batsmen, despite their defensive play, and could of had the wicket of Mike Hussey, but his foot just went over the line and no ball was called as Hussey hit the ball straight to Harvey. Hussey also survived a huge appeal from Briggs and the slips as it looked as if he had gloved one to Jaques, but the replay showed it hit nowhere near the glove and hit him just below the helmet, but none the less Briggs was fired up and in his second spell he got his reward when Mustard clipped one off his legs straight to Hoggard who took an absolute blinder which will no doubt be the talk of the dressing room for some time.

Shaun Briggs 12-3-32-1
1st Spell
1st Over: Single picked up from Briggs opening over
2nd Over: Hussey is caught off a no ball from Briggs who looks devestated, next ball Hussey is hit on the body and caught by Jaques who goes up for the catch which is given not out by the umpire
3rd Over: 4 singles come from the over
4th Over: 3 singles from the over this time as the Durham batsmen seem to be settling in nicely
5th Over: Lewis smashes a wide one from Briggs away for 4
6th Over: 2 runs come from the over
7th Over: A single comes from Briggs final over of his first spell
End Of Spell 7-0-20-0
2nd Spell
8th Over: Briggs comes back with a bang and lets Hussey know about it as some lively bowling leads to Hussey hitting one in the air which is dropped by a diving Harvey. Maiden over
9th Over: WICKET! Briggs finally gets a wicket as Mustard clips one to a diving Hoggard. Wicket-maiden
10th Over: Hussey gives some back to Briggs as he helps himself to two boundaries
11th Over: Single comes from the over
12th Over: Briggs final over of the game is a maiden

Briggs comes into the attack with Yorkshire desperately needing a breakthrough

And he comes so close, but the umpire made a good decision to give it not out

But Briggs finally got his wicket as Hoggard took a blinder

Stats For Shaun Briggs After Game Thirteen

Another solid performance from Briggs, scoring over 100 runs in his two innings and picking up 6 wickets, if Briggs continues like that for the final 3 games of the season, he could very well end up with over 1500 runs and 70+ wickets in what would be an amazing debut season.

Briggsy just needs a double hundred and he will be the best all rounder in county cricket, Stuff lester and northants

Yorkshire vs Derbyshire
Headingly

Yorkshire welcome the Phantoms to Headingly today in their latest fixture in the Totesport League. With Yorkshire already promoted, you would think that the game holds little significance for them, but this surely wont be the case with this Yorkshire team who have looked on their game at all times this season no matter what the situation. Derbyshire come to Headingly with promotion still a possibility and a win would surely boost those credidentials so an interesting game should be on the cards. The captains met at the crease and checked the conditons before the toss.

A decent pitch served up by the groundsman with a pitch that should do a bit of both for batsmen and bowlers so winning the toss and choosing what to do may not be an easy choice here. The toss was due to take place next as the match referee made his way to join the captains.

So, Luke Sutton has won the toss and has decided to have a bat first, only time will tell if this will turn out to be a good decision, but with a strong batting line up, a good score should be posted. The teams were announced soon after and the players made their way onto the field.
