Briggs Dominates As Durham Struggle
At Headingly

The pre-match build up to this game saw the pitch lamented as a bowlers pitch, and Yorkshire showed why as they bowled Durham out for only 129 in their first innings, leaving them a comfortable lead of 145 going into their second innings. Shaun Briggs took full advantage of the pitch and conditions as he finished with figures of 5 for 37 as Durham really struggled to cope with the bounce and pace of the pitch. Most of the Durham top order got starts but none could go on to get a score which Durham needed, Nicky Peng top scored with 24, something which says a lot about their innings. Along with Briggs, there were also wickets for Harvey(2), Hoggard and Dawson(1), and Yorkshire will now look to bat Durham out of the game.

From Briggs View
Despite a poor start to his bowling, Briggs got used to the conditions and exploited them fully as the innings went on. Going for 16 runs in his first 3 overs, Briggs was being hit to all parts as the Durham bowlers picked up on his full pitched bowling, but it was only when Briggs started to test the batsmen with some short stuff that the wickets began to come. The batsmen could not pick up the low bounce despite the ball being hammered in short and Briggs profitied. He will go into the second innings on a hat-trick as his final two wickets came from consecutive deliveries.

Durham Fightback But Yorkshire In Command
At Headingly

A spirited bowling performance from Durham saw them bowl Yorkshire out yet again for less than 300 as Yorkshire reached 285 in their second innings, meaning Durham need to either bat out the rest of today and tomorrow, or chase 431 to win, something which is possible considering the time left in the game. It was the swing bowlers that had the most effect in the innings as Benkenstein picked up 3 wickets, despite being expensive, while Davies also bagged a couple, there were also wickets for the other bowlers used too, but Yorkshire look to be now safe from defeat anyway and will now look to push on for the victory. Shaun Briggs top scored yet again, but their were also some good contributions from Anthony McGrath and Phil Jaques along the way to further add to Durham's misery. Durham may regret not bowling the tail out sooner as the last 2 wickets cost them over 40 runs, and with the likes of Hoggard, Kruis, Harvey and Briggs to come and bowl, its not looking good for the men from the North-East.

From Briggs View
Briggs came to the crease with Yorkshire 199 runs ahead, when he left they were well in excess of a 300 run lead, showing how important it was for Yorkshire that he stayed at the crease for as long as possible. His 67 was more of a patient innings, very rarely lashing out or going for the big shots, Briggs was happier to let his partners go for the big ones as he looked to bat for as long as possible to increase his teams lead. Briggs will be yet again dissapointed in the manor he got out though, clipping a ball of his pads straight to Noffke who took a fine diving catch, but like the first innings, Briggs will have to come out head held high, and we all know from the Durham first innings what Briggs can do after being dismissed on his way to a century.
