Dawson The Derbyshire Destroyer!

Richard Dawson picked up his best one day figures for Yorkshire as Derbyshire were bowled out for 157 in their innings in this Totesport League encounter. Dawson finished with figures of 5 for 27 from the 5 overs he bowled and was twice on a hat-trick as he spun the ball with huge venom to cause the Phantoms players all sorts of problems. Earlier Shaun Briggs had picked up the first 3 wickets after a bright start by Derbyshire which saw them race onto 47 from their first 10 overs. After that though it was all downhill for Derbyshire as Briggs ripped through the top order. Their was some resistance from Derbyshire as John Moss scored a delightful 46 and Luke Sutton helped to boost the Phantoms score with a quick fire 30 down the order, but its the Phoenix who have the upperhand in this clash and Derbyshire will not be pleased about wasting the 14 overs that they had left.

A fine spell of bowling from Briggs saw him pick up 3 wickets in the first 4 overs that he bowled in the Derbyshire innings. Pace and bounce did the Phantoms batsmen as Briggs ran into the crease which an extra spring in his step and got all sorts of bounce from the pitch, that bounce accounted for the wickets of Stubbings and Bryant as the ball came onto them quicker than expected and they were both out hooking into the hands of Yorkshire captain Craig White. The ball which did the dangerous Di Venuto was also a great piece of bowling. With Briggs bowling some good balls to Di Venuto straight away, he was looking to get him away and so Briggs fired in a fuller one which Di Venuto went for and missed completely to send him back to the pavillion for a duck. Briggs did not complete his full 9 overs as Richard Dawson ripped through the middle and lower order and Deon Kruis cleaned up the tail.

2nd Over: WICKETS! Breakthroughs for Yorkshire as Briggs picks up 2 wickets in the over. First to go is Stubbings who mis-times a hook shot straight into the hands of Craig White. 3 balls later Di Venuto takes a huge heave at a fuller ball from Briggs and misses completely as the ball crashes into the stumps.
3rd Over: Single comes from the over after the eventful start from Briggs
4th Over: WICKET! Briggs is at it again, this time deceiving Bryant with the bounce as he hits one straight into the hands of White yet again who takes a simple catch.
5th Over: Moss smashes a 4 straight down the ground as he looks to take the attack to Briggs
6th Over: Briggs gets a bit erratic as he bowls a wide and then a no ball
7th Over: 2 runs come from the over
8th Over: Another 2 runs from what would be Briggs final over of the innings.
