Kent Struggle As Yorkshire Dig Deep
At Canterbury

Briggs looks on as Yorkshire battle it out

Yorkshire produced a solid bowling performance to dismiss Kent for 205 in their innings. Kent lasted 43 overs and will have been dissapointed not to have seen out their full 45 as the middle order could not build on the solid opening partnership by Walker and Fulton. The pair put on an 86 run opening stand to get Kent of to the best start possible, but ended up losing there last 9 wickets for 119 runs, and what says the most about the Kent innings it that the openers were the two top scorers in the innings. Yorkshire's bowlers did well on a pitch offering spin, Lawson the pick of the two spinners on show picking up 2 wickets, while their were also wickets for Hoggard, Harvey, White and McGrath, and 3 run outs in the middle order which really wrecked Kent's hopes of posting a commanding score. Yorkshire will fancy their chances now but batting will not be easy on this pitch.

Kent Edge Thriller
At Canterbury

Kent's spinners did the job as they edged an amazing game at Canterbury whivh saw them win by 8 runs. At one stage Yorkshire looked to be cruising to victory, but the moment the spinners were introduced, the game swung back to Kent and despite Craig White taking Yorkshire to the final over and needing 8 from 3 deliveries, Ferley did the job dismissing the Yorkshire captain and giving Kent a precious and much needed victory in their chase for promotion. Earlier in the innings, England captain Michael Vaughan top scored with a fine 58, and he was accompanied by Anthony McGrath who scored 46. All the Kent bowlers managed to pick up a wicket but it was the spinners who did the damage and bowled Kent to victory.

Man Of The Match

The loss of Shaun Briggs for this match was a huge blow for Yorkshire and one which may have cost them the game. His batting at the top of the innings along with the strong bowling would have certinally made a difference in this game, but he will be back for the next game, and what a game it is; Twenty20!

September 1st, but there seems to be a bug with Twenty20 as its supposed to be played in June and its just starting now despite the fixtures saying it should start then so its gone back in time!

Here Comes Twenty20!

The most exciting event in the county season has arrived with the start of Twenty20 and previous winners Leicestershire and Surrey will be the teams to beat when the third Twenty20 Cup gets under way on Wednesday.

Last years winners Leicestershire

Surrey lost to the Foxes in last year's final after beating Warwickshire to lift the trophy 12 months earlier. Leicestershire start off with a home game against Notts, while Surrey travel to Canterbury to take on Kent.

The competition has been expanded to 79 matches this summer, with each side guaranteed at least four home games. Finals day will take place at The Oval on 31 July.

Leicestershire captain HD Ackerman is in hopeful mood as his side prepare to defend their Twenty20 title.

"Our guys are a very confident bunch as far as Twenty20 is concerned," said Ackerman, who joined the club from Gauteng during the close season. "They have been at finals day two years in a row and were champions last year so I will be asking a lot of questions before to find out about it, I'm starting to catch on to their ideas and we have a nicely balanced side."

All 18 sides, who are split into three divisions, will be in action on an opening day which features a Roses showdown between Yorkshire and Lancashire at Headingley.

Rivals square up as Mark Chilton and Craig White prepare for Twenty20

The Lancashire side includes Brad Hodge, who led Leicestershire to the trophy by making an unbeaten 77 in last year's final before moving to Old Trafford.

"We have a nicely balanced side for Twenty20 and we just hope one of the batters can stand up and do what Brad Hodge did last year," Ackerman said.

Huge crowds are expected to be drawn in for the competition this year, and the ECB has predicted the total figures may even surpass last year, especially with the inaugral Twenty20 International being played between England and Australia at The Rose Bowl.

Let the fun and games begin!

Yorkshire vs Lancashire
Headingly

The moment most of us have waited for has finally arrived as Twenty20 kicks off today at Headingly and what better a game than a Roses game to kick start proceedings. With Yorkshire having struggled in the past 2 years of the competition, Lancashire will come into the game as pre-match favourites, especially with a certain Andrew Flintoff in their ranks, but with Yorkshire welcoming back their very own all-rounder in Shaun Briggs, its going to be a fascinating contest. Craig White and Mark Chilton met down at the pitch to check out the conditions of this Headingly track.

A fast, hard pitch has been served up by the Yorkshire groundsman which should provide runs and fast bowling which adds even more to this great spectacle. The match referee made his way to the middle to join the captains for the coin toss.

So, Yorkshire have won the toss and have chosen to have a bat first on this good looking pitch. A good start by the openers will give Yorkshire a good chance of winning the game, but with an attack of Anderson, Cork, Flintoff and Murali to come, its not going to be easy. The teams were announced after the toss and the players made their way onto the field to begin the first Twenty20 game of the season.
