Yorkshire vs Leicestershire
Headingly

After the excitement of the Twenty20 ended, the champions of 2005; Yorkshire, take on the team they dethroned in the 2004 champions; Leicestershire as the Totesport League campaign resumes. With only one day seperating the events of the final and today's game, Yorkshire may choose to rest some of their key players today, and what a well earned rest it would be as they look to now re-focus on gaining promotion in both forms of the game. The two captains met down at the middle to look over conditions for today's game.

A pitch with a slight tint of grass cover on it has been served up by the groundsman, and the overcast conditions mean the bowlers should enjoy some success out there if they get the ball in the right places. The match referee made his way down to the middle to see over the coin toss.

So, Craig White has won the toss and has decided to put Leicestershire in to bat first, probably a wise decision but the bowlers will have to ball well to get success. The players made their way out onto the field, and the Twenty20 champions were greeted by a huge roar from the Yorkshire faithful, hopefull of seeing them win today.

During the interval, Twenty20 heroes Shaun Briggs and Ian Harvey paraded the trophy around the ground to a great reception from the Yorkshire fans, clearly delighted at getting the chance to see their heroes from Saturday.

Man Of The Match

So, a depleted Yorkshire team crash to defeat in their first game since becoming Twenty20 champions. The absence of key players such as Briggs and Harvey cost them at the end of the day, but they should be back for the next game in the County Championship against Worcestershire.

Hi briggsey, I want to suggest something as a regular reader of your story, that now this county cricket has started to bore a bit and you should promote briggs now to a higher level after such dominant performances. I think he deserves a chance now in international cricket.

WoW! Dinesh Mongia shredding the Yorkshire lower order to smithereens! Good one!

i like the fact that yorkshire lost that match. shows that matches can go either way and that briggsys team wont just win everything.

Yorkshire vs Worcestershire
Headingly

The county championship resumes today for Yorkshire with the visit of Worcestershire to Headingly. Yorkshire will look to get back to winning ways following their defeat to Leicestershire in the one day format earlier in the week, but it wont be easy with a strong Worcestershire team looking to move up the table with a win here. The two captains; Craig White and Vikram Solanki met down at the pitch to check out the conditions before the toss was due.

Pretty good conditions to bowl in here with the slightly overcast conditions and a tint of grass on the pitch meaning the ball could move around early on. The batting team will have to be very focused to post a decent total here first up so the toss would be vital for both captains. The match referee made his way down to the pitch to conduct the coin toss.

So, Solanki has won the toss and put Yorkshire in to bat first, probably the best decision seeing how the conditions are and with bowlers of the calibare of Shoaib Akhtar and Kabir Ali racing in first up, Yorkshire could be in for a spot of trouble early on. The teams were announced and the players made their way onto the field to begin the game.

Vaughan And Harvey Put Yorkshire In Control
At Headingly

Two knocks of class from England captain Michael Vaughan and Twenty20 hero Ian Harvey put Yorkshire well in control after their first innings effort at Headingly. Despite neither of them going on to get centuries, their scores were still enough to see Yorkshire through to a declaration with the score on 427 for 7. After loosing the first wicket at 4, Wood and Vaughan put on a century stand for the second wicket, and after Wood fell, there was yet another century stand between Briggs and Vaughan as Yorkshire took full control, making Solanki regret his decision to bowl first on conditions which seemed bowler friendly.

From Briggs View
A classy knock from Briggs saw him score a quick fire 55 from 60 deliveries as he and Vaughan put Yorkshire in full control at Headingly. Briggs innings started slow and he was even dropped at slip on 4, but once he got into the flow, the full array of shots came out and Briggs scored his half century from only 49 balls. Poor shot selection lead to his downfall though when a short ball was pitched in wide of the off stump which Briggs couldnt resist having a go at but after failing to make full contact with it, the ball nestled straight into the hands of Worcestershire captain Vikram Solanki to end an entertaining innings from Briggs.
