Lawson Dominates As Worcestershire Collapse
At Headingly
Mark Lawson showed his potential as a future international spin bowler as he picked up 5 wickets for the first time in a county game as Worcestershire were bowled out for 122 in their first innings, a huge 305 runs behind Yorkshire. Lawson bowled brilliantly on a pitch which did not seem suspectable to spin and proved very difficult to score from as his final figures proved, but Worcestershire played a big part in their own downfall with poor shot selection the main factor behind their collapse which saw the last 5 wickets fall for only 17 runs. Craig White was the unlikely bowler who kicked started the Yorkshire bowling effort as he picked up 2 quick wickets in a rare spell from the captain, there were also wickets for Hoggard, Kruis and Briggs, but it would be the introduction of Lawson which would spell doom for Worcestershire. Craig White was yet to make the decision as to whether Worcestershire would be following on but it would seem a good option considering the first innings efforts from the bowlers.
From Briggs View
Briggs stepped out of the limelight for once today as it would be the other youngster in the Yorkshire team grabbing the headlines. Despite that though, Briggs still bowled a couple of fine spells and managed to pick up a wicket along the way too, thanks to some air time by Michael Vaughan who took a stunning diving catch to dismiss Gareth Batty. Briggs had earlier caused problems for Hick and Peters, the two top scorers in the Worcestershire innings, but his tight bowling helped to keep the runs down and piled the pressure on the batsmen.
