Yorkshire On The Brink Despite Wigley Fightback
At Headingly
Yorkshire stretched their lead to a huge 531 runs after their second innings came to and end when they were bowled out for 226. In tough batting conditions, skipper Craig White decided not to enforce the follow-on and Yorkshire were given the best possible start when openers Wood and Jaques put on 93 for the first wicket. However, wickets fell at regular intervals when that partnership was split and only Shaun Briggs and Richard Blakey went on to get scores of any note, both scoring in the mid 30's. Former Yorkshire player David Wigley was the pick of the Worcestershire bowlers, despite being expensive he managed to pick up 5 wickets against his former county, but Worcestershire are going to have to bat well now to see out this game in conditions which are getting tougher and tougher for the batsmen as the overs go.
From Briggs View
Briggs endured a much tougher time out in the middle than he had experienced in the first innings as the conditions seemed to cause him trouble. The uneven bounce was the biggest of Briggs concerns in his innings as he was repeatedly struck by balls which took off from no where and was even sent to the floor by one bouncer from Wigley which struck him on the helmet. Despite this though, Briggs still went on to score a patient 35 which only included two boundaries, showing how tough scoring runs is on this pitch after Yorkshire's first innings. Briggs was eventually out, mis-timing a big hit down the ground which flew straight up in the air and into the hands of Peters who took a nice catch. Briggs should enjoy bowling on this wicket now as too should the likes of Hoggard and Kruis, so Worcestershire look to be in some trouble.
