A T20 draft...cricket_icon & swacker's picks

Sorry about the delay - was playing cricket all day.

Anyhow, my pick is Boyd Rankin

Taylor, Razzak and Shakib are some great picks.

Boyd Rankin is a good call :thumbs He was the fast bowler I was thinking about.

shall i pick ?

Yes! And you might as well pick your South African player as well while you're at it to finish off your team.

I was THIS close to picking Razzak but I think Hassan is the better allround player. Rate him quite highly.

Yep might as well go for the extra batting if the bowling is pretty even. Exactly what my thoughts were.

Abdur Razzak

Format | Matches | Wickets | Average | Economy | Strikerate | BB T20I | 21 | 33 | 16.30 | 6.64 | 14.7 | 4/16 T20 | 47 | 58 | 18.24 | 6.37 | 17.1 | 4/16

I've gone to plan B. At the beginning I wasn't planning on having 3 specialist spinners, but I couldn't ignore the value of Razzak here. I guess ultimately the attack will be the same as I planned though: 4 pace options, 3 spin options. It's just the spin options will be really good, and a couple of the pacemen will be all-rounders, not specialists.

Razzak has often opened the bowling for Bangladesh, which fits in well for my plans. The article on Cricinfo the other day (Numbers Game : Who are the biggest hitters in T20? | Cricinfo Magazine | ESPN Cricinfo) showed that of all spinners in T20Is only Saeed Ajmal has bowled a higher percentage of dot balls than Razzak. That's perfect to stifle batsmen in the early overs and forcing them to play big shots before they are ready.

A lot of these minnow guys only have good T20I records because they have played other minnows a lot and feasted on the lesser quality. But Razzak has proven to be effective even against the top teams, a good performer even if you isolate his games against the top 8 nations (vs top 8 teams: 12 T20Is, 17 wkts @ 19.00, Econ: 7.02, S/R: 16.2). Best figures were 4/16 against South Africa back in 2008.

I'm Picking David Trent Johnston usually known as Trent Johnston, born 29 April 1974 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia :) is an Australian-born Irish cricketer as my ROUND 10 Pick ;) A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler, he had played for the Ireland cricket... :D

Johnston made his first-class debut for New South Wales in a Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania in March 1999...
I hope He will Do his best in this T20 World Cup 2012 ;) :thumbs

Round 11 Pick

AB De Villiers...

ok, for me is has to be Hamilton Masakadza he's still improving and he's a very hand batsman. turned a few more obvious guys for him but what clinched it for me was, as well as his more than respectable 27.95 average (which jumps up to 30 when opening, where I'll probably stick him) is that in non-internationals he averages 39.21 and has 2 hundreds.

the reason I say "non-international" and not "domestic" is that a large number of those games are actually as the zimbabwe XI playing against A teams or in warm ups, so they're not actually in the zimbabwe league and are made at a reasonably high standard of cricket. he's a good player and he plays smart.

That was a gun pick, Stinky. I was hoping no one pick him but wasn't that much lucky.

Anyways, I'll grab George Dockrell then. Had a couple of good guys in mind but I think Dockrell is too good to let go. He will make our spin department stronger and complete our bowling attack.

By the way, is Hamish Marshall valid as and Irishman? If so, I'll go with him and not Dockrell.

thanks, there was a few names for t20 minnows (surprisingly easy round I think, not got the top heavy quality of the other rounds but I think it pushes one or two of them for depth) but I definitely think he's one of the best batsmen in the round.

dockrell was a name floating about but with ashwin and narine a spinner is not a priority, good pick, time will make it a better one as I think he'll be a test bowler as well as a very limited over player.

whether it's for england or a new irish test team remains to be seen.

Yes Fenil will need to stick with Dockrell. Marshall hasn't played an official T20I for Ireland yet, only unofficial ones.

I want a Wicket Keeper...so i picked ABD... my fav player is brendon McCullum but he has taken... :(

Have you not already picked MS Dhoni?? Oh well, I suppose Dhoni could play as a bowler :p

I'm taking Jacques Kallis as my pick. More later when I'm not so busy.

Will sort out ASAP who Swacker wants as well, I think he wanted ABDV, and I thought Andrin would need to take a bowler so I told him that ABDV would most likely be able to be picked :( So stay tuned...

Jacques Kallis

Format | Matches | Innings | Runs | HS | Average | Strikerate | 50s/100s | Wickets | Average | Economy | Strikerate | BB T20I | 20 | 20 | 642 | 73 | 40.12 | 122.28 | 5/0 | 5 | 52.00 | 7.42 | 42.0 | 2/20 T20 | 109 | 108 | 3164 | 89* | 35.55| 114.05 | 26/0 | 61 | 35.80 | 7.81 | 27.4 | 3/16

Kallis is Mr Plan B for me. He's there to build the innings if my openers fail, and he's there to provide another pace option if my specialist bowlers aren't doing the job. To have such a quality player as plan B feels good :)

There is always lot of talk surrounding Kallis and T20 cricket, specifically that his batting is too slow. Facts say that his T20I strike rate is 122.28. The overall strike rate in T20I history ie. the average strike rate of all players, is 116.14. Kallis also has a strike rate higher than quite a few guys who are more lauded strikers than Kallis. Looking through the list I see Owais Shah, David Hussey, Kumar Sangakkara, AB de Villiers, Abdul Razzaq, Ross Taylor, Umar Akmal, Craig Kieswetter and MS Dhoni - all with lower T20I strike rates than Kallis. Yes I realise his IPL strike rate has been a bit lower :D But it doesn't really worry me, I'm picking Kallis for his batting average and his class, not his strike rate. I've already got 2 openers who strike around 150, so I don't need fireworks from Kallis.

His bowling in T20 hasn't been fantastic, particularly his strike rate. But his economy is reasonable, and he's only going to be my 7th bowler anyway.
