He had a graceful, fluid batting style with beautiful wrist-work. In 334 matches (308 innings), he scored a mammoth 9378 runs at an average of 37 with 7 centuries and 58 half centuries. One wonders what he could have achieved if not for the infamous scandal.

Statistically he is one of India's most successful captains. He won 103 ODI matches as the captain of the Indian team, which is still an Indian record.

I was tossing up whether to take AB as my keeper, but decided not to. I'm trying not to force people into spots they didn't usually play in.

But he's probably worth more in the field anyway...

India's greatest fast bowler since Kapil himself. He is one of the best bowlers of swing in the world, and bowls with success in conditions where fast bowlers disappear to the fence. His amazing control over line and length added to his natural deviation in the air make him a handful for any batsman to face. He leads with the ball, taking crucial wickets at the right times to set up matches for his team. He is aggressive and in-your-face, and has the talent to back it up. He has taken 235 wickets at an average of 29, and is hugely experienced having appeared in over 170 matches.

I was going to say, I think I have half as many players as everyone else, my picks have been a bit shoddy because I've been unsure when my go is and worried about holding it up haha

My next two are, well, my bowling is looking well thin, so I've decided to bolster that with another saffer (please tell me if I've picked someone already taken, I've looked but cannot see him)

So, I'm going to skip an obvious choice and go for two leftfield ones

mulling over 3 bowlers, I've decided to plump for

Chatfield

yes, Ewen Chatfield, he was built to be accurate and nagging, probably would have been more effective these days than he was, his ODI stats of 25.84 and an economy of 3.57 look good but admittedly are some way off the great west indians around at the time. They are none the less, quite useful. Interesting in 1984 his performances were so good it has propelled him to the 6th highest score ever in the ODI rankings, better than marshall, holding, roberts best ever scores (of players from the same era, more attacking batsmen have meant that these scores are not fair to compare across era's) and he was to maintain this performance for most of the 80s, he will play my bracken role.

and I think I will take

Makhaya Ntini

I think I would have kicked myself if someone else had taken him, , his average and economy are impressive, but he should be noted for his ability to run through teams and simply take wickets, and despite not having the express pace of Lee, waqar or akhtar his SR falls in with theirs, he saved his best for australia with a 6/22, and didn't average over 30 against a single team. Consistent wicket takers are hard to find and he is one.

Nah I reckon you've nailed it Stinky. Chatfield formed an effective partnership with my man Hadlee. Very underrated.

An absolute talisman for the West Indian team. He always steps up to the plate, whether it is in the field, with the bat, or with the ball. He is one of the best death bowlers in the world, with his awesome slower deliveries and cunning variations in line and length. He's a big hitter of the ball too, and he has the ability to hit it a mile as well as gruel it out and get through a tough period.
