Sid, 24 hours have passed and Zorax hasn't made his pick.

Seeing as Zorax's deadline has passed, I'll take my pick.

Pick: Shoaib Akhtar

Okay let's forget all the controversy on and off the field. In him prime, Shoaib Akhtar was the most feared bowler in the world. He fired fear into the batsmen at blistering speeds and was a brilliant bowler.

I was looking for a more unconventional pick, but was surprised to see this legend has not been picked yet:

Vinoo Mankad

An awesome batsman in a time that favored the bowlers, a fine allrounder (was the fastest Indian to reach the 1000 runs/100wickets double), and a fantastic fielder, there was no doubt in my mind in picking Vinoo. He relished opening the innings averaging an amazing 47 in that position, 17 higher than his career stat. He was part of the historic, unbroken world record of highest opening stand with Pankaj Roy.
His bowling is special as well, bagging him 162 test wickets at an average of just 32.

Really liking the look of my team now. 3 quality all rounders who also double as specialists in their own right. Middle order should be interesting though...

Wow, a great team so far. I had my eye on him to get the perfect opening partnership, alas. I think you've pretty much nicked all of the great all rounders from South Asia, bar the greatest of course.

I pick Virender Sehwag. An unconventional pick for me as I never rated him too highly until his double in Sri Lanka, but the prospect of having a batsman of utmost patience on one end and one of the best attacking batsmen from the subcontinent on the other end was just too mouth watering. One could argue I have the best opening combination one can get from this pool of players.

Explanation of my pick? Well, I needed a good middle order batsman for my team. And I thought that Inzy was the right person for this job. Have high regards for him. Great player! Was quite unstoppable in his day.

Damn it, I was going to pick Mankad!

Seeing as I'm probably going to be late for a few more picks, is there any point of my continuing?

How though? I usually come up with who I'm going to pick based on who has been picked till my turn.

Darn it, I really wanted a Mankad-Murali spin partnership :(

It'll probably be better if I pull out, because this will keep happening :p

Mahela Jayawardene is arguably the finest batsman Sri Lanka has produced, in competition with Jayasuriya, Sangakkara and one more batsman whom I shall not name in spirit of healthy competition. He developed his hunger for runs on his test debut which was when Sri Lanka made a score of 952/6. Hence it is no coincidence that he holds the highest individual score for a Sri Lankan. He has scored centuries against all test playing nations. He averages 53 with the bat and was a pretty easy choice to make.

Fazal Mahmood was Pakistan's first great fast bowler. He was a master of cut and seam bowling at searing pace, coupled with great stamina. In 1952, in only Pakistan's second test, he took 12 wickets, and 7/42 in the second innings. In their inaugural tour of England, he lead Pakistan to a stunning series-levelling win by taking 12 wickets once again. Yet another match showing his prowess was in Pakistan's first test match victory over Australia in which he took 13 wickets. His hunger for wickets made him the first Pakistani to take 100 wickets, in only his 22nd match. While his partner may have been equally potent, his career was marred by injuries and he didn't play nearly enough cricket. He ended his career with a more than healthy bowling average of 24.70.

Damn, damn, damn! This guy would have been my next pick. Great! Now I need to rethink my plans.

King Cricket added 2 Minutes and 39 Seconds later...

Nice pick KC. I thought you'd go bizzare after that Sanath pick.

Yeah, the Sanath pick was a strategical blunder. Missed out on a whole lot of better players thanks to that pick. My plans of building a good team are already quite damaged, but still, let's see...

Aravinda De Silva

One of Sri Lanka's greatest batsman, De Silva was best known for his prolific performances in the shorter version of the game. However, he was also a fine batsman in test match cricket. He had unflappable technique, strong off both front and back foot, and always looked to attack.

Got one of the Siril greats, brings some life into that middle order. Lookin good.

There go the three great Sri Lankan batsmen- Sanga, Mahela and De Silva. Good pick.

If Zorax wants to quit ill take his team if the other participants dont mind. Thats only if Zorax wants to stop participating.
