All-Time West Indies Test XI Draft

Desmond Haynes is probably the 2nd best WI opener of all time. In his 16 year career he played 116 test matches and scored 18 centuries and 39 half centuries. He gives me at least one solid opener in my team.

Pick: Rohan Kanhai

Explanation: With wicket-keepers very few and far between, I was hoping to pick Clyde Walcott or Jeff Dujon, but with those 2 gone I've chosen to go with Rohan Kanhai. He started his Test career as the Windies keeper, but after 3 Tests Franz Alexander took over the gloves. Kanhai did fill in as reserve keeper in the future though, and was said to have been more than decent with the gloves. It's his batting that made Kanhai's name though. He made 6227 Test runs at a very healthy average of 47.53 with 15 Test hundreds. I think he definitely helps with my team balance.

kanhai opened as well, not to great effect admittedly but it could be an option if you wanted to pack your team with the cream of middle order batsmen left.

Damn, look at some of these names. And we still have a long, long list of legends to be picked.

Makes you feel kind of sad, looking at the current state of Windies cricket. I mean seriously, Floyd Reifer's the captain...

Clive Lloyd

Follow the leader are the words. Lloyd lead the WI during their golden age and was one of the main reasons for their success. He is probably the best WI captain of all time and a really good middle order batsman. Lloyd played 110 test matches for WI and led them in 74, he scored 19 centuries and 39 half centuries. He fits really good in my middle order.

^^ The cousins get picked one after the other, best spinner WI had. Good pick.

Ian Bishop

If it wasn't for serious back injuries Bishop could have ended his career as one of the best fast bowlers ever. He could have formed a devastating bowling attack with Ambrose and Walsh. Bishop played in 43 tests and finished his career with 161 wickets. Now I have a good 1-2 combo with Ambrose and Bishop.

Pick: Colin Croft

Explanation: A genuinely quick and aggressive fast bowler, so aggressive in-fact that a team-mate once said of Croft that he "would bounce his grandmother if he thought there was a wicket in it." Croft played 27 Test matches, which is a fairly short Test career, but it was a successful one. Croft picked up 125 wickets in that time, at a very impressive average of 23.30. Croft really gives my fast bowling attack an extra aggressive edge, and with Marshall and Garner alongside it makes for a very intimidating attack.

with Garner and Malcolm "get out, or I'll bowl round the wicket and kill you" Marshall? it hardly needed it :D

I'm liking the way your team is shaping up KP.
