Another draft!-Test players of the 90s and later - FINISHED!

Yeah, he can be slightly overrated because of how spin friendly Sri Lankan conditions are. Just go and look at the FC averages of their spin bowlers, there's a good 10 - 20 that average under 20 after playing a decent number of matches (50+). In saying that though I definitely would have taken him ahead of Ganguly and Akhtar who were the two players picked just before him.

Can we move on please? I mean it was on Aug 2, Yudi picked. Aditya's mistake not picking the correct player. Maybe cricket_icon can make his Pak pick?

it is way to difficult to find a genuine pace bowler in this draft so Akhtar I guess is due to this.

I'm very sorry guys for my inactivity, I've been unwell from the last few days. Should have been more careful while picking, didn't check the first post. My picks are Shiv Chanderpaul and Inzamam UL Haq. Again, sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I'll do the write up later.

Alrighty we're back on track. Cricket icon is cleared for picking :)

EDIT: And might I add that after Chanderpaul...there's not much quality at all in the West Indies round. It'll be fun to see who gets dug up actually. Man they've had a rough 10-20 years since those big guns started retiring.

Yeah, I didn't pick Murali because I was waiting for a later round. My mistake grrrr, I ALWAYS PICK MURALI, now I have to look for an alternative.
Ok my Pakistan pick:

Saqlain Mushtaq

The inventor of the doosra is how most of us know Saqlain Mushtaq, but he was much more than that. He was quite possibly the greatest spinner to ever play the shorter form of the game and he wasn't too bad in tests either. After Murali and Warne, he is the best spin bowler I have ever seen. He had the ability to mesmerise batsmen, no matter where they came from and could spin the ball both ways. Add to that an undying eagerness to pick up wickets and we have the best possible spin choice once Murali and Warne are taken out from the equation.

Tests 49
Wickets 208
Average 29.83
BBI 8/164

His average fell in the last 2-3 years becuase of joints problem he was having at that time.

Saeed Anwar

One of the graceful stroke makers you would ever get. A classy opening batsman whose timing was impeccable. He could destroy any bowling attack on his given day. Timing and placement were his weapons. He punished, literally punished the bowlers for bowling outside off to him. Plus, him being a left handed batsman makes him more valuable to my side.

Damn you User. :p Anwar was on my mind, but anyway I didn't think he'd be available till my chance comes.

Oh dear, he was my first choice for the Pakistani round. Knew that I wouldn't be able to get him at number 7.

@Sifter: Change the Sangakkara link in first post to this one. :D

Done. Oh and don't fret yet, there are a couple of other decent Pakistani spinners still in the sea that I personally like about as much as Saqlain. You can make your West Indies pick whenever you like too Yudi.

And just a general announcement: send2yaari asked me if Amir and Asif were available. I say yes, they have played 10 Tests and there has already been players selected who were suspended from cricket for a time: Shoaib Akhtar and Shane Warne. So the same rules will apply to other match fixing players in other rounds as well: Marlon Samuels, Ajay Jadeja etc. But feel free to play the moral high ground and not select them if it sits uncomfortably with you.

::Pakistan Round Pick::
Mohammad Asif

He was one of the most intelligent bowler Pakistan has ever produced. He was having the ability to move the bowl both ways with his gentle pace. He and Aamir was considered to be the two A's as the revival of two W's. But one have to admit that none of the international cricketer was as controversial as he was. He did almost every thing to ruin his career and at last a spot fixing case ruined what was consider to be a great career as a bowler but a worst career in term of controversies.
