England now face Tasmainia in a Warm up game which split up the 2nd and 3rd test of the Ashes Series. This match provides the oppertunity for those players who have seen little or no cricket on this tour to shine and boost their chances of selection. Strauss and Collingwood are the only 2 players featuring in the squad who have played in all the tests so far and it seems they are in just to add to the stability of the squad. The Tasmanians won the toss and chose to bat which seems an unsual decision consdiered how green this wicket is. Local groundsmand here at the Bellerive Oval said that the ball is going to move about considerably and scores of 300-350 are extremely conpetative. However, the Tasmanians are famimular to this ground and they might know something different. M.Vaughan features in this as a part of his recovery and Ponting features for Tasmanian, it will be interesting to see how they get on.

Squads:
A.Strauss - T.Birt

A.Cook- J.Cox

M.Vaughan - R.Ponting

E.Joyce - M.Bevan

I.Bell - M.Di Venuto

P.Collingwood - D.Dawson

G.Jones - L.Butterworth

A.Giles - X.Dotherty

L.Plunkett - D.Wright

S.Mahmood - A.Griffith

J.Anderson - A.Downton

This session proved to be a mixed one for both teams. Tasmania started well on this difficult wicket which offered plentyof seam movement. However the Tasmanians over came this to put on 50 for the first wicket. Anderson and Plunkett opened the bowling and both looked threatening but Anderson becmae costly as his spell progressed. This eventually brought Giles into action for the first time since getting injured. He made the first break trhough clean bowling Birt after he left a delivery which gripped on this green surface. This brough Pointing to the crease who manged ot afce just one ball before being run through for a suicidal run and therefore being run out.

D.Gower- I think both teams wil be happy with their start. The hosts have put some runs on the board and played this difficult track well. England menahwile have looked strong and threatening

Tasmania lead by 70 runs

Tasmania collapsed from 70 for 2 to 111 allout after Giles took 5 for 21 and Plunkett 2 for 23. Eventaully Tasmania lost 8 wickets for 41 runs emphasing the extent of this collaspe and also showing the violent nature of this pitch. Most bastmen fell to the seaming ball which explained the 5 LBW's. However Giles contributed with 5 key wickets including a Bat Pad to Bell to remove Cox and Wright latter on in the innings. England have now fort themsleves into a formidable position so now they must bat and battle hard to ensure they stay there.

D.Gower- A very exciting session but woudl have disappointed alto of Tasmnaian fans here today. England need a good start because this pitch can claim wickets easily.

Tasmania lead by 111 runs

That Mahmood LBW decision is shocking. I don't know where it pitched but it hit him way outside off stump.

Yeh was a poor decision, i thing the fact that he left the ball didnt help him. Probably would have survived if he was playing a shot.

England recovered from 36-5 to finsh on 120-5 at Lunch. Things got of to a terrible start when Strauss fell for 0 on the last ball of the first over. The ball which got this wicket was a great delivery as at seam back and caught Strauss unaware. This wicket brought Vaughan to the crease who was looking for some form, however after a rain delay bringing us to day two, he fell as well after playing back to a full delivery. This brough Joyce to the crease playing his first match of the tour, however for him it was a short expierence as he lasted just 3 balls. This then brough Cooks wicket as he edge through to the keeper and then eventually bell who edged it into the gully. However since then Collingwood and Jones have looked solid putting England now 9 runs ahead.

D.Gower- A fantastic start by Tasmania and they had it in the bag at 36-5, however smart batting from England has put them back on top.

England lead by 9 runs

England added 63 more runs before Tasmania picked up the remaining 5 wickets. Wright manged to pick up 6 wickets on this helpful track whilst for England Collingwood was able to amass 72. Jones meanwhile also amassed a half century before he lofted a drive to the cover region. Following this Collingwood fell to a edge into the gully. From here onwards wickets fell quickly with Mahmood getting bowled, giles getting caught and anderson too getting caught in the gully.

D.Gower- A good session which means England will be fairly confident with the 71 runs they have to play with. Tasmania need a good innings or this game is gone

Tasmania are 71 runs behind
