Ashes 2013 - Australia tour of England June/August 2013

I think Ponting hosed down that comment pretty quickly. It's a bit like Shane Warne, every year or 2 there is a supposed quote from him saying he'd be open to returning. He's just trying to answer the 500th version of the same question in a slightly more interesting fashion and usually this supposed 'quote' is prefaced by a long winded, 'im happily retired' spiel.

The impression I got was that he said he'd love to play in another Ashes series, but because he'd retired it wasn't to be.

The media took the first part, which looks different in isolation.

Perfect oppurtunity to call up Bailey into the Ashes squad with Warner likely to miss the 1st too test at least. Watson MUST open (not in the middle order) and Rogers too will be his partner. The middle-order looking a bit soft and old head like Bailey would suit batting @ # 5 perfectly.

I've written an article looking into who could possibly partner Alastair Cook for the Ashes, both here and down under. I'd like to see us stick with Compton, but I did suggest another, controversial, option that I don't expect to be well received.

Khawaja has no idea how to grab chances. A duck against Ireland doesn't do any good at all...

Khawaja is crap Bailey or Voges should get a chance

Mitch Johnson has performed average in the champions trophy but he is not a part of the Ashes.

Why on earth Harris is still in the team

Woah 181 to Maddinson...
Khawaja's luck continues. Good to see Klinger play for the opposing team, Sayers is having an insane match.

Micky Arthur's demonstrated that he had clearly lost all judgement when he referred to Australia as having the "best bowling attack in the world".
No-one can come back from that.

Thats the moment when even CA must have thought: now he really has lost it. Time to go. Plenty of time for homework Micky. Think positive.

The better the opponent is, the better Bailey bats usually. Got a bit about him. I really had hoped they would call him up. Not sure on Smith. I don't think his technique will handle the seaming conditions of England. I'd be tipping Finn to upset him with back of a length, nipping away. Caught gully. What about Maddinson? The kid can bat. 113 on debut for NSW - back to back tons for Australia A. Must be a better opener than Hughes, surely?

Was never comfortable Arthur as coach to be frank. The cricket culture that AUS have to me always meant that a foreign coach may have always had some problems.

Clarke may the best tactical captain AUS had had also since Taylor, but ive always said he lacks that captaincy AURA that Border, Taylor, Waugh, Ponting, Warne, Gilchrist had when they captained AUS.

The kind of AURA that made Justin Langer said he would die on the field for captain Waugh. I don't believe Clarke has that influence over the dressing room & is still pretty much not eradicated the youthful "pup" image.

It's just been announced that Joe Root will open the batting in England's warm-up game against Essex.

You've got to think they could have found a better team to play than Essex. I can't see any benefit that England will get out of it, just because they will win, very easily. Perhaps it's a confidence thing.
