Ashes Cricket General Discussion

What settings are you using? Any modifier...modifications? Difficulty levels? I only ever get dismissed bowled or LBW.

I play on legend, for batting I'm using @WealeyH sliders except I have pitch marker set to 50 instead of 10 and I have pace bowling speed max on 80 and speed min on 70. I think having the pace up probably helps because the timings get messed up, for example with default settings you can time the ball when pretty much near the marker because it's so slow but with higher bowling speed you have to time it earlier and can be tricky.

Also I'm having a world of trouble against Lyon, he got 6-70 odd in the first innings and now in the 2nd Innings he's taken a crucial wicket too. If you want to read about my match I made a post here, will update later today also!

EDIT: Unfortunately for me batting is good but bowling is hit and miss for me, in every test I've played I bowl for 120+ overs with ZERO nicks and only in the very end I start to get a few nicks :/

Are people still getting no edges when batting? Like 60% of my wickets are from edges and thats excluding the ones that don't find a fielder. Test matches are of pressure batting, literally have to leave anything outside off because I'm afraid I'll nick it. Sometimes the AI has a real aggressive field tempting me and then I go for a drive and edge it then kick myself later, that just happened to me twice, one of them was with a set batsmen who had 69(93) and had nicked a ball the one before he got out but that went for 4...

Only qualms I have with batting are sometimes when the AI bowls a yorker I get a pull shot instead of a leg glance...and similar other things like this too which makes it a bit irritating but all the while good fun so far.

I've only had edges to slips or the keeper off spin bowling. Never edged on anything fast outside off stump. I guess it must depend on settings? I haven't modified mine much...timing on 50, marker on 30, footwork, shot choice and ball quality on 60.

I'm online but when i load up the game it says i need to be online :'(

Big Ant's servers and website appear to be down.

Usually you can use THIS LINK to check the servers, but with the site down as well it is not working. When that link works and the server shows green, then we should be able to play again.

Has anyone seen pitch wear during a test match that isn't the Ashes Series?

I was really impressed when playing the Ashes and I saw a massive crack had appeared in the pitch and all the other tests had decent wear effects too. However, now I've finished with the Ashes and have played a few casual tests, I'm seeing no wear at all.

3 tests, all went to day 5 and the wicket was like no one had ever been playing there.

Possible glitch?

I notice alot of things with pitch progression...

1. It appears and disappears = 1st ball of the over then appears after that for the rest of the over.
2. Sometimes only loads wear in if you reload the match. If you play it in one go it wont load the pitch wear.
3. Foot marks aren't really a thing. For me i get sometimes a random square patch of wear about 5ft from the crease.
4. It's nowhere near what it has been on older dbc games.
5. Does it even have an effect?
6. Only real wear I've seen is the cracks appearing and a few light scratches here or there.

I'm not sure because I remember still nicking the ball a lot when batting when I didn't touch the sliders much, one slider I had up from pretty much the beginning is the pace bowling speed...but during batting I get a lot of nicks, all kinds! Not sure how people don't...

Wasn't cheap :p Graphics Card itself was £800 (paid 350). I think in total was about £1k (2-3 years ago) I did originally have a 980ti hybrid but it leaked under warranty so i just bought the best card i could as i had a big discount.

Yeah I was thinking you paid around 2k, but how did you get that card for 350!!!? 1k isn't so bad for that setup, I'm guessing you can run anything

I think you've summed it up well. Though, I've just remembered that I saw a YouTube video of someone playing a 5 day game in career mode and the pitch had big dark grey smudges around the stumps at both ends, as well as a couple of those square patches you mentioned. I think there'd been some rain.

I really don't know if the wear I've seen had any actual effect on the ball...

In total was about 2k as i got a monitor too £750. I told you how i got the card cheaper :P Last sentence :)

It's glorious!

I'm guessing that the bowling speed is having the biggest impact on you edging then...

I'm disappointed you've not had any wear during casual matches...If they only implemented it for the Ashes Series, then....ugh...

I also have the speed up about 80-85. default is just so slow. Plus bounce and carry on default is shocking

Could also be why I don't get edges early on in the innings and only when my bowlers speeds drop a considerable amount when bowling (their stamina goes low and they bowl slow) but I can't bare the default speeds as Dridge mentioned, they're horrible to look at
