Asia Cup 2008

Rohit, you just hate Yuvraj Singh. He's absolutely fine. You just look for another opportunity to criticize him. You can't perform in every match. He's been pretty darn consistent in the Kitply and Asia Cup.

Yes I do hate Yuvraj Singh.

Yes, I agree he has made good scores in the Kitply Cup and the Asia Cup - On absolute roads. Even SEHWAG has been consistent in these two tournaments - and usually the name Sehwag doesn't appear in a sentence that has consistent in it unless it has a big NOT in between :p

The thing is, whenever he faces a good bowling attack or is in some pressure in a crunch game - he fails.

His purple patch is long over.

Shravan, maybe I am wrong about Yuvraj. Maybe he has done enough to stay in the side. My point is, we have too many flash players in the middle order and not enough cool, experienced heads who can do something in pressure-cooker situations as we were today after Mendis's first over. There needs to be a balance between aggression and....what's the word..."anchoring?" (It's 1AM, can't think)

Let's take a look at our current ODI side, for example.

Gambhir - Good.
Sehwag - Rash, inconsistent, can never rely on him.
Raina - Has a good head on his shoulders but is still far too inexperienced for us to bank on
Yuvraj - A good batsman, is out of form and tends to crack in tough situations
Dhoni - Hate to say it, but good. I think he's tiring, though. Captaining, keeping, in hot and humid conditions and playing every match! Maybe he should give the gloves to someone else? (COUGH KARTHIK COUGH :p) But seriously, that could be an option.
Rohit Sharma - Overrated. Has talent but really not ready for International cricket yet. Give him a few years in domestic cricket with Mumbai. He has a lot to learn, and he will be back with a bang.
Robin Uthappa / Yusuf Pathan - Uthappa is terribly inconsistent and is really out of form. He does have oodles of talent and the ability to get better, though. Yusuf Pathan - overrated and a let down IMO. Haven't seen any of those famous IPL sixes after his inclusions in the side, and I just don't think he will cut it at the international level. Again, too aggressive!
Irfan Pathan - Has lost it with the ball. Very, very sad.
Ishant Sharma - Overrated. Pitches in Australia practically perfect for him, he will struggle to bowl in other conditions.
RP Singh - Finds it hard to bowl in conditions that do not give him help.
Piyush Chawla - is an awesome prospect and is going to be fantastic for team India. Good.
Praveen Kumar - is probably our most versatile cricketer and has the ability to bowl in all types of conditions. Was unlucky in the Asia Cup.

Looking at all those problems, the current team looks quite dismal. Sure, India has a bright future and all that, but give these guys more time in domestic cricket to sharpen their skills before playing the big matches, for their own good! We can't afford to lose and waste valuable match time just to "groom" future hopefuls, that should be done in domestic cricket!

I think the reason India lost this match was becasuse I don't think they watched enough tapes of Mendis. IF they did that, they would have had a better chance.

Watching tapes is one thing and facing him is another. He was just too good.

the team selection committee should have at least had one senior member :(
but to late they thought the young T0 Dhoni ke dhurender will make us win but alas its not!!!

Rohit, you've blown things out of proportion. Yuvraj has somewhat found his touch again and in the last 3 matches, Ishant has finally found the lines and lengths bowl on flat tracks. Sehwag gave the team a great start today which was of immeasurable importance. Once again, he made it a lot easier for the batsmen coming in. However, they didn't capitalise on the good, positive start he made. This team is still learning. You have to give them time. Sure, there are a few changes that have to be made but you've said pretty much the whole team needs to be changed which is irrational.

Mendis wasnt that great. He was bowling wicket to wicket. His bowling is pretty similar to that of Kumble.I fail to understand how our batsmen failed to read him.
Sehwag could have smashed him outta the attach had he stayed.
Yuvraj and Raina-well thats what you get when you blindly swing your bats.

It was simple straight bowling from Mendis, nothing out of the blue.

The real test for Mendis will be in the Tests, cause he will be facing a different batting line-up comprising of Tendulkar,Dravid,Ganguly and Laxman.

Sahil i said something same likeur ^^ post some page back

A Mendis((:)) was not a special bowler but he hammered all players and the result India lost:(

:(

Looks like the next legend in spin bowling is here!! I have seen bits of him in some match against the Windies and he does lookk very confusing. But I am sure that teams will figure him out soon. But we can also expect him to improve as teams figure him out. So wish him all the best!

India needs a break now. Please selectors - REST THE CAPTAIN FIRST! This guy has been playing non-stop cricket and yet he fights for the team with the bat so well in the ODI's.

Not a legend.I analysed the bowling late at night yesterday. He is just like Kumble. As I say in my earlier post, let the tests come.

As for Dhoni, give him the Lanka tour off.Let him not play in the ODI's as well,as he desparately needs rest.
Can you say CHOKERS?

I agree and the world also agrees.22 finals with 18 losses.Sadly,we havent been able to convert many.

Dhoni should just slog now....

He would have, had he been given enough rest.

pathan no...:crying
i cant believe it. we had this match in our hands. how did we manage to lose this? anyway no point crying. i think we just choked in the final we did good everywhere else just that mendis did the samethign to us that ishant did to the aussies. And dont wrry about pathan he'll be back...i hope

I'm perfectly happy with the ODI team as it is, currently. Apart from sections of our bowling we have shown good fight and played good cricket. Anyone who suggests otherwise is just smarting from our loss at the hands of one Mendis. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt to the batsmen (except for Raina who played an absolutely pathetic shot) because he was understandably confusing. However, that is no reason to make ad-hoc changes.

As someone said, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Dravid and Laxman will be back for the Tests and they are by and large our best players of spin. After watching Mendis' performance and our batsmen's batting against them, I realized why Tendulkar treats every new spinner he faces with a lot of respect. It has been frustrating in the past, as a viewer, but very understandable now. That will come with experience--I'm sure these confident youngsters will write a page about caution in their cricketing diaries.

Rohit, you've blown things out of proportion.

Yes, you are talking crap, Rohit. Yuvraj is capable of firing in tough situations, he just can't do it all the time, remember the famous Natwest series final?
