I mean exactly. Who needs Watson and Symonds when you have Lee, Gillespie and Warne. They can bat and bowl effectively well.

YES!!! That's what I've believed in for the past 2 years. The selectors constantly think that having an all-rounder can make a difference!

And congrats to Gillespie!

EDIT: Genghis_Khan, thats what I do with all my memorable moments in the past 2? years :P

1) McGrath making 61 (thats nothing now).
2) Australia vs. South Africa's 400 run massacre.
3) 2003 World Cup Final.
4) Hussey + McGrath 100 run partnership.
5) Gillespies 200!

Now I see there bowling.

And congrats to Gillespie! If he keeps batting he'll beat Gillys high score!

Agreed 100%. What about Warne's 99? We can't forget about that can we? :)

That moment would have to be one of the funniest memories.
99*, field spread out. Tries to loft it for 6 and gets out but then it turns out to be a "No Ball". I gotta dig that up again and add it :D

Omar out early again, LBW to Brett Lee. Bashar need's to play a good innings

You know something else I noticed while looking at some old stats. You guys tell me the difference.

Gillespie making 201*

jasongillespie21sb.jpg

Gillespie passing 50 against New Zealand (along with McGrath).

Too me he seems more confident in making big scores.

Wow well done gillespie and happy birthday think he was too tired for any big celebrations. :( Someone should put this innings from gillespie in the news section of the forum.

Pretty embarrassing for the rest of the team and any other cricketer in the world who calls themselves a batsmen.
If it was just 100 i guess some would still knock it since its Bangladesh but a double century can not be laughed off by anyone no matter what.
Poor Warne and Lee are probably thinking, geez i wonder what could of happened if they sent me in as nightwatchmen.

Just got home in time to watch him in the nervous 190's he was so calm, not playing any rash shots it was unbelievable to see most batsmen get nervous in those situations.
Also got to see the highlights of his shots that took him to his 200.
There were some smashed cut shots straight to the ground for 4,beautiful no footwork cover drives for 4 all the way along the ground, hard hit sweeps again along the ground. Also saw 2 lovely 6's.
His first 100 came of around 280 balls, his 2nd 100  came off around 140.

Ive been saying since the ashes to give up on the allrounder idea, Flintoff is a freak no matter how much we want one its not gonna happen.
We dont need one we have good enough batting depth to do the job and our bowlers although lacking in depth are still good enough to do the job.
6 specialist batsmen plus gilly and 4 specialist bowlers is all we need.
When we no longer have the batting talent or bowling talent then we may need an allrounder.
Plus when we got a keeper like gilchrist he does the job of getting the extra runs like a flintoff can.
Watson and young henriques are our best hopes for an allrounder, but they will never be as good as Flintoff.
Stick with the specialists and they will be more effective han any allrounder.

It seems that his 200 meant nothing compared to floundering up a 50. Maybe because he had his 50, nothing can raise that bar regarding enjoyment. Or maybe he just was riding his bat to entertain the Australian crowd?

That was an enthralling read s-man! Really enjoyed that.
If you were in Gillespie's position in the nervous 190s, would you prod around at try to make it slowly to 200, or would you have a bit of a confident slash at it? For some reason, it is easier to make a mistake if you are nevous and start chipping the ball around for singles.

I was there when he did that, oh gee i have never seen someone choke so badly. Everyone at the crowd knew it was going to happen too, he was just waiting to get out when he got in the 90s.

I reckon the "Strauss delivery" is above at least one of those.

After seeing that, I wish he had of done something equally as spontanious and funny.

If someone can provide me with his highlights, I would greatly appreciate it. I can give you an footage you want from this SA NZ tour.

If someone has footage of him doing the bat ride as seen above, I really want that too.
