What's people's views on the wickets for some of the recent one dayers here in England. As if our top order don't struggle enough with the likes of McGrath and Lee, they're playing on a wicket today which is seaming sideways (even though Headingley is renowned as a seamers strip). Similarly at Lords the other day.
Should groundsmen over here be encouraged to prepare more batsmen friendly wickets if possible, to provide the paying public with some higher scoring matches?

Groundsmen can't control the weather. The weather also effects the pitch not just conditions.

Obviously the weather makes a big difference, but that's more for swing, not so much seam. The wicket up at Headingley and Lords on Sunday was producing quite a bit of seam movement, so making batting even harder.
Nasser said on Sky earlier that he thought this wicket was a dog for one day cricket, a bit two paced.

Good win for England. They are not playing the best cricket, and still manage to beat a full strength Aussie side by nine wickets.

It does seem to be a case of bat 2nd-profit. Weather definitely has an impact on all pace bowling. Cooler weather helps the pitch retain moisture. You can't blame the groundsmen and you can't stop the weather. Maybe the matches should start later in the day. Still sucks hard to loose the toss though.

What a thumping!Well done England! They did have the better of the batting conditions, but aus simply didn't bowl well enough.I've never had much respect for Trescothic, but he did play well and showed he deserves his place in the starting line-up.Lets hope for a better match on Tuesday.

Trescothick has done well against all teams, apart from Australia.

Also I was wondering maybe Vaughan should let Jones and Harmison open the bowling, with Gough and Flintoff as first change. Gough is excellent in the end overs, and doesnt seem to have a good time in the start of the innings. Also the fact that Jones and Gough are similar bowlers, makes it easier for the Aussie batsmen to settle. With Harmison and Jones, you have two different bowlers operating. While Jones can pitch it fuller and swing the ball, Harmison hits the pitch hard, is faster and generate more bounce. This might trouble the batsmen.

The only thing with Harmison opening the bowling is that he doesn't use the new ball particularly well, which is why I think he's been first change. Howabout giving Flintoff the new ball for a few overs?

Excellent shout, these would be my two opening bowler's. Harmison was out of form when he was last opening the bowling for england. He's back with aggression, pace bounce, and most importantly wickets. Of recent Australia are getting good starts, then collapsing, we need to try and stop that opening partnership of hayden and gilchrist.

Vaughan hit 5 fours. 1 lucky through the slips. The other 4 were all of the highest quality.

Ricky Ponting has just taken a blinder. He had to dive full stretch to his right and he caught it with one hand. Brett Lee has taken another 5 wicket haul 5/41, he's in great form leading up to the first Ashes test
