Well this topic got active overnight.

I still think symonds should come in. he can swing the ball, mabeye not as much as hoggard, but he can as he is showing right now. He can also spin on the last few days of the match or if a batsman has a weakness against spin. He can also hold a tight line which is what australia need to put more pressure on when mcgrath or warne are at the other end. Also attacking batting has proved effective in the tests and i rank him above pieterson and flintoff (In batting)

Also Tait should come in as the pitch will surely be made quick to help out England so with him and bret lee in the team they can cause problems

Good points you make Annihilation. I forgot Symonds could maintain line and length. His batting is right up there, KP is probably the bigger hitter but Symonds can produce a very similar effort. He would also add to the fielding where Aus have been struggling.

Also about the Australian arrogance i think Langer come out and has given a very honest interview. Also aussie1st Symonds hasnt got a reputation for it but i think his power is up there from what ive seen in the last year from him

does anyone know whats going on with the Scotland Australia match?

Australia may be losing their fire and youth but they are still damn better than england. I mean england are just lucky enough to keep this series alive. Even if england win the ashes they wont prove to be better than the aussies.

No doubt Symonds can hit the ball a long way. We haven't seen him go crazy like Afridi and KP yet but he has come close.
Whats with the TBA on the teams for the match. I thought at least they would have done the toss.

Yeah i hope Gillespie doesnt retire either. He could play against some weaker teams and get back in the swinbg of it. I think more than anything else the pressure has got to him.

Also i agree with Pace-Ace although i feel 1 match doesnt prove anything but a series might. (Why im looking forward to India-England next year)

Symonds can defend also. Thats why he might be a better test batsman than KP he is in now and is doing a slow but containing role for Lancashire now.

What? England, lucky?

Its the Aussies who should consider themselves lucky, not being down 2-1 in the series.

And its true, England winning the Ashes, will not make them no.1. But it will atleast indicate that they are capable of beating the Aussies in a series.

How, exactly, can England prove they are better than the Aussies if winning the Ashes back is not proof?

Thing is that last test is the worst aust can play and england still couldn't win they also nearly blew the 2nd test win!!

I am aussie of cause and I agree the team and most of the fans are arrogant and the media gets really annoying now I pretty much just like to watch the game and watch the best batman bowlers not really supporting a particular country.

after that first test I said nothing has changed 4 -1 aust and england wil win the last test

but Aust are finally facing good bowlers and its like the good old days again going down to the wire reminds me of the West indies in the early 90s 80s Aust battleing away and fighting to win I love it

Id like to see england win this it would be great would shut the media up down here and new players will be in the team..

my question is after that draw what will that do to England's confidence??

I don't think it will effect our confidence at all, it will give us more belief if anything. Simon jones bowling is coming on a treat.

By the way if you're not in Scotland, you can get BBC2 Scotland on Sky Digital if you look around the high channel numbers.

Channel 960 is the channel you want for BBC2 Scotland if you live in England. They are currently showing highlights of the ICC Trophy including extended highlights of the final.

Interestly the coverage of the Scotland v USA match seems to be produced by Sunset and Vine who do Channel 4's coverage so the graphics used for Channel 4 are being shown on BBC.

Lucky to keep the series alive!? Come back when you have some form of cricketing knowledge.

I agree Australia have been lucky but so have England, Australia have looked close to winning both tests. And it cant just be luck that made them get so close. You can go on and on about outplaying and rain but the fact is u only beat them by 2 runs and they were only 50 away
