Australia vs England ODI Series - 7 matches - Sep 4 to Sep 20

Prior, pfft, who is this bloke? Aye King Pietersen? :laugh

Huh? Since when have I been singing the praises of Prior in ODi cricket? =/ If you actually bothered to read my posts you'd have seen that I want Davies in the side, opening the batting, not Prior. I thought Prior had possibly turned a corner having watched him in the ODi series against the Windies at home, but it's now becoming clear that those runs were because the Windies are crap. I rate Prior as a Test keeper, but he can GTFO of the ODi side. Davies, Kieswetter or Foster should all be ahead of him.

Only just started watching my Sky + recording of the action, so I'm not sure of the score atm, but it's 41/0 in my recording. Strauss playing nicely, and Bopara looking decent enough. That six over long on was an excellent shot.

Oh, he's just got out, pretty awful shot, but a good catch from Hopes. Positive signs that he's going to play his natural game, which he hasn't been doing in the series so far. Now time to see Prior fail =]

What were England thinking with this line up? Its awful. Honestly, i don't know.

Was just havin a go, didn't have to get all serious on me. :p

Prior's such an offside player, it's easy to see why he's more effective in Tests. He backs himself to attack the big gaps when there are slips behind him, but such a situation rarely presents in limited overs, even during the Powerplay.

England to have a good chance of winning require at least 100 more from here and I don't see that happening.

Morgan's played decently here has absorbed alot of the pressure but needs to go on and make a score.

We are so, so bad at One Day cricket. Morgan is finally doing something of worth for England after a disappointing start; although he's not had much of a chance prior to this knock. I'm still convinced that if he's going to play, he should be batting 4. He's not suited to hitting boundaries regularly to finish an innings, which is what a #6 should be set up to do. If they insist on using this batting line-up, at least put them in the right order.

If we had the right side we could be so much better. Trott? Rashid? Davies? (I'm a Prior fan, obviously, but even I accept that you can only have so many chances.) The bowling looks fairly solid, better when we had two spinners, two quality spinners I might add. Anderson is a bit out of form, but apart from that I'm not too worried about the bowling. It's the batting. We all know Trott's record in domestic cricket. How about Joyce? He's an excellent OD player and has an ODI hundred. The selectionof the batting powerplay is mystifying too.

I don't think we should forget that KP and Fred are out, our 2 best ODI players. Any side in world cricket would miss their two best players. The Aussie batting looks a bit susceptible without Ponting, except Fergie has stepped up. Who has stepped up for England? Probably the most likely person got dropped after the first game.

Bopara down the order, drop the keeper and swap him for a decent ODI player and bring in trott for Morgan

Strauss
?
Trott
Shah
Collingwood
Bopara
Mascheranas/Gashid/Wright
Broad
Swann
Anderson
Sidebottom

This is horrible. I hate England. Can we bin the whole lot of 'em? I reckon we could bin this whole XI and not really miss anyone.

Steve Davies +
Marcus Trescothick (He's retired but MEH)
Ed Joyce
Jonathan Trott
Nick Compton
Graham Napier
Dimitri Masceranhas
Stuart Broad
Adil Rashid
Sajid Mahmood
Graham Onions

The bowling is pretty poor, so we probably could do with Sidebottom and possibly Anderson, but that batting line-up would certainly do better than this group of no-hopers. Nick Compton's an interesting choice I know, but he's got an excellent record. Averaging over 70 this season with a decent strike-rate and a very good overall record. The rest of the top 5 picks itself. A top 4 of Davies, Trescothick, Joyce and Trott is simply excellent, and add Pietersen into that in place of either Compton or Masceranhas and you've got one heck of a batting line-up.

I'm looking forward to Hussain calling for Alex Hales to be called into the England side at the break. Calling for blokes that can hit the ball over the boundary. Probably wouldn't be a bad option. He's obviously not anywhere near experienced enough, but it could be a Warner-esque pick. He's shown some potential to hit boundaries, and we could throw him in at 3 and see how he goes. Can't do much worse than Prior or Collingwood.

I feel ashamed to be supporting this team they are truly awful at the moment in one day cricket.

For starters England have repeatedly picked the wrong team (the Rashid situation, Prior still being viewed as our keeper when Davies should be opening, Trott should also be in the team and should come in at 3, Bopara in my opinion isn't doing enough to warrant a place either) then not only having picked the wrong team they then go in with blatantly the wrong order (Morgan at 6?) and then when things seems to be as poor as they can get they leave the bowlers to try and use the powerplays to hit people like Brett Lee.

I'm actually quite angry to be honest. Even if we win this it would in no way shape or form cover over these avoidable shortcomings.

Mahmood? Has he been in ridiculously good form lately or something? If not, there are far better bowlers than him in England. Yeah, he bowls fast, but pace isn't everything.

OD bowling stocks are incredibly low, but Mahmood's actually had quite a good year in List A cricket, averaging around 20. I wouldn't pick him if I was picking a proper XI, but he gets in to this team where I've replaced the whole XI.
