Australia

Pretty happy with the squad, particularly with the inclusion of Hauritz. Nice to see Hastings in there to contrast Johnson/Lee/Tait. I'd only really contend Bollinger's place for Doherty but I don't really mind given what Bollinger could do for Australia if he returns to form. :D

What?? Why would u think of leaving Dougy out?Dougy should go well in India.Last time he played an odi series there he bowled outstandingly. It would have been interesting had Harris been fit who would have miss out among the quicks.

Hodge books have definitely been marked, if he was going to be picked he would have got the nod over Dussey. If Hussey is out then Ferguson will be the selectors choice.

Ye deep down i expect that to happen. But i guess we will know for sure when they pick a replacement for Mussey for the remainder of the ODI series vs ENG.

So, XI for Australia's first match against Zimbabwe? I think the following would be the easiest/most obvious way for the selectors to go:

1. Watson
2. Haddin (wk)
3. Ponting (c)
4. Clarke (vc)
5. White
6. (M)Hussey
7. Smith
8. Johnson
9. Lee
10. Hauritz
11. Bollinger

Post-match Hastings could replace Bollinger if he doesn't look back in-form, but I'd give Lee and Johnson a couple/few games before considering dropping one of them for Tait. Australia would be fielding a really deep batting line-up if Hastings came in for Bollinger as that would probably push Hauritz down to #11 and he's been in great form with the bat during the domestic season.

Either way Ferguson ain't the worst, for me hes my first choice for Hussey anyway. From what I gather the squad minus Ponting will play the rest of the ODI series so Paine or Hastings will play as a batter for Hussey.

Glad Siddle and Doherty didn't make it. I don't rate either against good batting teams. But as you pointed out aussie, why the hell were they in the 14 man squad to start with - particularly Siddle.

I'm not sure they needed to take Paine in the 15 did they? Take him over just as a shadow player and if something happens to Haddin, THEN bring him into the squad. Otherwise you are just taking up a spot that could have gone to Christian or even Doherty if they wanted another spin option.

And Dave Hussey I'm not sold on either. Hodge and Ferguson are better batsmen and I would prefer to have one of them as my specialist batting reserve. And who cares about his part time offies if they are picking Hauritz? In that instance, Smith's leggies become more valuable for their variety. I can see the idea behind Dave being picked, but I don't like it.

So I'd have had:
no Paine
no D.Hussey
in Hodge/Ferguson
in Christian

Pretty much what I had.

Nathan Hauritz is the sole recognised spinner but Steven Smith and David Hussey will also be relied on to deliver regular overs. "Nathan is our preferred spin option and his one-day record in India is excellent," Hilditch said. Hauritz has played seven 50-over games in the country, taking four wickets at 70.75. Hilditch's panel did not pick Hauritz during the entire Ashes campaign but now he expects the offspinner to "be an important part of our bid for this fourth World Cup".

Dear oh dear what more can I say about our clueless selectors. Just when you think they can't go any worse they pull out something like this. There are so many other reasons he could have used to justify Hauritz selection or even just use "Hes been our ODI spinner and has done a good job".

Surely they should at least bring in Hodge/Ferguson to give the next best back-up batsmen a run in the ODI series, in case M Hussey does indeed not make it to the WC.

That makes too much sense, the selectors don't do that stuff.

Doherty should have been there in place of Smith. Taking out a lone spinner to India is not a very good idea. Part timers can only do so much.

Its clearly visible that selectors want players who are handy with both bat and bowl.

Nice to see Marsh get a trial in the ODI series, sad it has to be because of the Hussey M not D that Marsh is replacing.

:lol I know Sylvester they have frustrated us.

If AUS quicks bowl to potential. Then it wont be an issue.

Bah, what an absolute joke not taking Doherty to India! They've (the selectors) obviously have done what the general public have done and think he's terrible now after his poor ashes tests. Doherty is ranked number 1 in the world for spinners in the domestic level (Hauritz no.3, Dhussey 60 odd and Smith 70 odd). It is crazy that they are not taking him.
