Sri Lanka A tour of Australia, June-July 2010

He reminds me a lot of White. It's not about the resilience or the skill so much as the fact that if he really wants to, he could just write his name in cherries all over the sight screen. I think he's been guilty of working too hard for his runs and perhaps second guessing his ability too much.

The top order again failed to fire on all cylinders, with Chandimal looking quite susceptible to George's sharp bouncer. O'Keefe got belted around, but managed to profit from it in one over where two batsmen fell while looking to go over the top. With six wickets gone for less than 150, Chamara Silva and Chamith Kulasekara to offer 100 runs for the 7th wicket. Silva was again the highlight of Sri Lanka A's batting, although he was dropped on 56, but he powered on until holing out to point on 92 and will still be ruing the shot selection. After his dismissal, the game moved on quickly. Hilfenhaus was again in good form with the new balls and Pattinson chipped in as well.

Although 307 could have been a worthwhile 3rd innings, they needed to produce an exceptional performance to make up for the first and failed to take the game into the 4th. A comprehensive series win with a day to spare.

Pattinson certainly had a good game, another good season with Victoria could see him making it to the next level.

Bailey definitely looks like he has the temperament to make it at the next level. For mine he should have been picked over Birt earlier in the year.

Oh definitely. Birt was a really speculative selection, they basically picked him for T20s because he could hit sixes in the FR Cup. They ignored his track record in T20s.

Hmmm, before this series started I had high hopes for this Sri Lankan tour party, especially after reading up on a few of the bowlers. Although in saying that the Australian team in general (and as you would expect) has been top notch, I really can't wait to see Peter George play some proper cricket (I've only seen him in a few 20/20's) He looks to be a very promising bowler.

Not the most promising we've got either, which is annoying. The selectors just refuse to a select few.

Surprised you didn't talk about Wade's inning, Gazza :p
Can't wait to see what he does in the OD arena as he could be a better option than Paine whether it's hitting at the top or to finish the innings off.

Like who i wonder?. Last i checked pretty much the best young quicks in AUS where rightly picked in George, Starc, Pattinson. Hazelwood should probably have been picked in this team. Dont know why he is in the ODI team here in ENG.

Not all batsmen who have succeeded in test cricket have had stellar FC averages, Michael Clarke, Michael Vaughan to name 2. Sometimes other factors matter more- temperament, ability to play under pressure etc. Some guys need the bigger stage to perform, at FC level it can be pretty casual for some. Maybe guys like Bailey are just ready made for higher honours.

I agree. George Bailey really is a good player. Very solid, nice technique. Definite replacement for Ponting for mine.

SL A won the first OD fixture Pattinson, Haberfield and Herniques the pick of the bowlers not too much from the batsmen. Pattinson again the pick in the 2nd OD match currently going on. Going to take something special with 98 runs from 66 balls needed.
