Bangladesh tour of England, May-July 2010

Not been a bad start from England really though. Was a really good spell from the Bangladeshi seamer and deserved those wickets.

Its calmed down a bit now though; England looking rather comfortable.

This is classic Bangla, letting things get out of hand

I always feel that bangladesh are within touching distance of getting it right and being really competitive and then they just slip and make a silly decision.

3 spinners was always going to be a liability if they bowled first. surely you should consider this? mahmudullah has just been at a loose end.

Depends on the context. I think today's bowling has been a lot less of a liability than the last match. The pitch is also quite clearly taking spin. Maybe the better question would be whether they could have taken a batsman, but in terms of selection, it seems to be a better team than the last one.

^^ Talking about selection, I'd have taken Naeem Islam over Ashraful. Ashraful cant bat or bowl. Naeem can do abit of both, and he doesnt have all that skill, but he is a team player. So he adds spin to the team. That means drop Razzak and keep Rubel. Or not take Sharpova take Rubel. But thats done.

Now Ian Bell. WTF, that guy keeps scoring against us. And he already got 2 chances today. 1 drop catch, and 1 plumb LBW not given. If we had that wicket, or just one more wicket, the tails would have been exposed.

Not going to get to see any of this match until Monday and hope its done and dusted by then. Hoping for Bangla collapse in the 2nd innings.

Sidebottom's injuries mean that he's lost the pace and nip to become effective and Tremlett has so many injuries and no success since England last selected him.

Shahzad hasn't played enough international cricket to determine whether he's good enough or not.

Sidebottom has lost pace. But in the last test he played last winter in South Africa his pace was ok IIRC. So if he proves he's fit he will play.

Currently the selectors have given Shazhad a chance to see what hes about in this current test. I dont rate him though.

Tremlett main problem has been injuries since 2007. He has always been test quality thpugh. He has a good start to season. He defiantely should be in consideration for the Ashes, if he has a injury free season.

Then what should we do, play for a draw?

England's batting should be good enough if they take responsiblity. Plus the likes of Broad, Swann and Shahzad are good lower order players, and Anderson can hang around as well.

England's batting isn't that solid. Cook still has issues againts quality quick bowling. We can't be too sure about Trott yet after his troubles in South Africa as well.

This is why i am glad Pakistan will bring a testing pace attack this summer before the Ashes.

But again 5 bowlers cannot play in the Ashes. We just have to back the formula of 6 bats & 4 bowlers to play to potential & imporve & hope AUS make mistakes. Plus paying for a draw will retain the Ashes anyway haa..

Don't know about you guys but I have been mighty impressed by Bangladesh this series. They put up a solid fight in the first game and have shown character today. If they can limit them to 350 and Tamim has another flyer, there might be a chance here.

But it is always tough when your best batsman is the opener. There is always that chance for him to fall early, especially if he is inexperienced like Tamim.

^ That's why I really hope our middle order clicks this time around

MacLovin added 3 Minutes and 15 Seconds later...

And I was really mad when they I did not see Shafiul's name on Lord's test. And you can see why. Best bowler of the day on a spin friendly pitch. Not just by the figures, but the line and length he bowled..

Dumb selectors. He has been our best bowler (not so much stats-wise, but if you had watched some of those games he played, you'd know why).

Funny thing with Shafiul. Every time he does well in a game, he's dropped for the next. He's definitely shown he can perform and should be given a regular spot.

Good to see Bangladesh put up a good fight. I was honestly expecting England to dominate all proceedings but I'm glad Bangladesh didn't let it get to that.

Shafiul bowled with good pace and was the pick of the bowlers by miles. Really need to break this partnership and try and restrict England to around 360-370.

FookingAA!!!

That was the only way to get him out. And all this time these spinners were bowling flat1

Bangladesh seemed to have discovered that bowling slowly it turns big. They probably shouldn't have done that when England are about to bowl its only going to really help Swann.

If Bangladesh make a decent fist of their batting they could be very dangerous come Englands second innings what with all their spinners.
