BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Reece Topley joins the list of Poms who have opened the bowling with a wild ball. Luckily this one is hit by Bancroft so it doesn't carry on to the slips. The rest of the over is on point though.

WICKET! Inglis clips Jimmy Pattinson directly to short mid wicket. Big wicket to start, although Inglis does look out of touch and the man replacing him is very in form 1/6

Bancroft's invention brings up the first boundary! He just casually ramps a full one over the keeper's head. Nice shot.

SPILLED AWFULLY! Fraser-McGurk gets the unluck he needed to balance himself out after that speccie weeks ago. Drops it over the fence. Would have been a second speccie in this season for him, but it's six for Marsh. Then a four, and then a great ball from Pattinson that draws an appeal! Not given of course. Marsh follows it up with a no doubter over square leg! Fifteen rows back over the short boundary. Wild over.

1/39 from five.

WICKET! Bancroft gets a feathered edge behind the wicket. Easy catch for Harper, 2/68
Munro's not happy about that! First ball out there, he walks down and dispatches Sutherland over the midwicket fence for six.

Marsh has dealt with Nabi too! Gets down on one knee and slog sweeps over the mid wicket fence.
2/87 from the ten. Maybe a 200 on the cards?

Beau Casson, noted legspinner, is now the Scorchers' batting coach. Wow. Marsh gets his fifty two balls after the break - could we see another ton from the Bison?

Sutherland's inb the stands again, and even more impressively! Flicks it off his pads into the second row behind square leg.
-----
Plenty more hitting in the next three overs which included the power surge. All of which I missed. ffs. 2/135 from 15

WICKET! Odd chop on. Munro tries to flick a ball down to fine leg, but chops on. Oops! 3/138
WICKET! MARSH GONE. Slammed it directly to the Melbourne captain at cover. 4/139, two new batsmen in.

Ashton Turner picks up where it was left though! Gets a gift from Zahir and slog sweeps it over the mid wicket rope. Good shot.

Dropped! Tough chgance as Nabi misses an air ball running back from short fine leg.

Outstanding shot! Topley bowls another wild ball - chest high full toss outside off, and Evans slashes it over point for a six!
Second waist high fullie of the over! This one goes for four off the toe edge of Evans' bat. Topley stays in the game though - maybe because both have been so far outside off (even outside the wide line this time) that they weren't dangerous. The final ball goes for four too, so 24 from the over! Momentum is such a buzzword...

WICKET! Turner whacks it straight up in the air, and Harper catches it easily to give Richardson his third.
HUGE SIX TO FINISH! Evans dispacthes the last ball into the crowd over long on. Perth finish on 5/206. Big chase ahead for Melbourne

WICKET! Not the start wanted as Behrendorff castles Harvey from his second ball! Great ball, less of a bad shot than the bowler simply being too good. One for duck egg

Finch looking himself again. He's hit a couple nice shots now, including a lovely cover drive for four.
Lovely shot from Maddinson! Just as they talk to Laurie Evans about his innings-ending six that was glorious in the same vein, Maddinson slog sweeps Behrendorff up over the first tier!

Second tier from Finchy too! He just flicks Tymal Mills up there after an overpitch. Nice signs
REPLICATES THE NEXT BALL! AND WHAT A SHOT THIS TIME! This one goes over extra cover! They are flying.

1/53 from five. As good of a start as can be asked for

Finch gets all over Agar! Ran at him and went the inside out drive over wide long off. Went 85 metres! Sheesh

Big appeal from AJ Tye for Maddinson LBW. Clearly pitching outside leg though.

Maddinson deals with Peter! He gets one back of a length and dispatches it deep and long for six from his first ball. Gets out of the over very well though, conceding just two from the next six.

DROPPED! The Renegades get the boost point, and immediately after Maddinson picks Mills out on the full at short fine leg. But Mills shells it. Oh dear. 1/94 from the ten and the Gades have a chance here.

Finch creams another one! Tye had 0/9 from his two overs. His first Power Surge over finds itself in the second tier ove mid wicket. Two balls later also clears the fence, but not as impressively. Six regardless and they all count in this chase. 19th fifty in the BBL for Finch, who could end up doubling his entire tally last year in just this match. 20 from the over. That's an over that was necessary after a quiet start to the Surge.

WICKET! What was that? Maddinson was definitely out - he underedged a big swing back to Josh Inglis. But Perth spent so long celebrating they didn't notice the umpire was waiting for an actual appeal to give him! They realise in time and it's 2/130
Marsh similarly loves a huge appeal for Fraser-McGurk's wicket as a LBW. But the umpire gives it as a run. RRR is at two a ball.

2/140 from 15. 67 needed from 30

WICKET! FINCH GOES! Holes out to long on from Agar. Behrendorff completes the catch. Renegades now need a spark, 3/141
WICKET! Nabi isn't convinced but the umpire thinks he is caught in front of the stumps and he has to go. Agar gets his second of the over. Replays suggest it is sliding wide, 4/142

A quiet over against Hatzoglou, but Fraser-McGurk clears the fence from the first ball of Mills' last over!
DROPPED! The Renegades just stay alive as Bancroft shells an outfield sitter! 44 needed from the last two overs.

Welp. 37 needed from the last over.
WICKET! Fraser-McGurk should have been out when bancroft dropped his, but he is now. Holes out to long on trying to get 35 from 4. Nice innings though, 30 from 24. Hatzoglou with the wicket against his old team, 5/172
Sutherland does hit a big six from the next ball. AND THE NEXT! In a game where sixes have been trademark, Sutherland is signing off with a flourish. Harper, on the other hand, blocks the final deliver.

Scorchers win by 21 runs, but when Maddo and Finch were in it was a lot closer than that. Getting them exposed a middle order that, despite a valiant effort from Fraser McGurk, has significant weakness still (Mohammad Nabi may not be the ideal finisher on wickets condusive to pace bowling). Scorchers showed a couple of bowling cracks (including their powerplay bowlers being quite similar) but they ahd enough and stay top of the league.

X-factor subs: Jack Wildermuth and Xavier Bartlett for Heat, and Daniel Worrall and Henry Hunt for Strikers.

Adelaide Strikers: 1 Jake Weatherald, 2 Matt Short, 3 Matt Renshaw, 4 Jonathan Wells, 5 Thomas Kelly, 6 Harry Nielsen (wk), 7 George Garton, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Wes Agar, 10 Peter Siddle (capt), 11 Fawad Ahmed

Brisbane Heat: 1 Max Bryant, 2 Chris Lynn, 3 Ben Duckett, 4 Sam Heazlett, 5 Tom Cooper, 6 Jimmy Peirson (capt, wk), 7 James Bazley, 8 Mark Steketee, 9 Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 10 Matthew Kuhnemann, 11 Liam Guthrie

No clue why Cricinfo felt the need to do it out of order, but Guthrie and Cooper in for Bartlett and the injured Abell for the Heat. No changes for Adelaide despite an injury scare for one R. Khan

So 5 players from Pakistan gonna play BBL

Haris Rauf, Ahmed Daniyal and Syed Faridous will play for Melbourne stars.
Mohammad Hasnain will play for Sydney Thunders and Shadab Khan will play for Sydney sixers.

Shadab Khan will play for Sydney sixers.
Not officially confirmed on the Sixers' end yet, I should add.

BTW, a huge win for the Heat last night thanks to great batting from Ben Duckett and Sam Heazlett. No livecoms as it wasn't televised, sorry

Ben McDermott you star. 110 not out to win the game single-handledly for Hobart.

Sorry for my absences, I've been busy and also a bit... off? I dunno how to put it. Anyway, livecoms are hopefully back tomorrow.

Ooft. 3/16 for the Stars. Joe Clarke at one end on 12 from five wondering what his colleagues are doing

The Stars are gonna win this one and I won't even blame the Heat. This is just outstanding batting from Cartwright and Clarke.

Edit: it is crap bowling, from one bowler in particular

It is now, but he missed the last match as the test result hadn't come through yet.

Was hoping to see Haris turn out for the Stars today. How do he and Shadab fit in their teams' combinations? @ddrap14
