BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Sydney Thunder: Hales, Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Billings (wk), Ross, Sams, Cutting, McAndrew, Green (capt), Mahmood, Tanveer Sangha

Brisbane Heat: Bryant, Lynn, Duckett, Heazlett, Abell, Peirson (capt, wk), Bazley, Bartlett, Steketee, Swepson, Mujeeb

So Steketee and Mahmood to make their season debuts, and Jason Sangha in for Sam Whiteman.

Thunder off with a bang. Hales and Gilkes both clear the fence in the powerplay. First real shout is a LBW call from Bazley late in the fifth but it did look quite high. 0/50 from five

suggestion: create a self help service for heat fans

Perth Scorchers: 1 Kurtis Patterson, 2 Colin Munro, 3 Mitchell Marsh, 4 Josh Inglis (wk), 5 Ashton Turner (capt), 6 Laurie Evans, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Jason Behrendorff, 10 Peter Hatzoglou, 11 Tymal Mills

X-factor subs: Matthew Kelly, Nick Hobson

Hobart Hurricanes: 1 Matthew Wade (capt, wk), 2 D'Arcy Short, 3 Caleb Jewell, 4 Ben McDermott, 5 Harry Brook, 6 Tim David, 7 Nathan Ellis, 8 Tom Rogers, 9 Riley Meredith, 10 Wil Parker, 11 Sandeep Lamichhane

X-factor subs: Peter Handscomb, Jordan Thompson

Lineups tonight! Interesting to see the Hurricanes' five man tail after their injury issue last time. Surely that is an overcompensation?
Inglis was promoted to open with Patterson, and is already out. Oops

177 was made by the Scorchers. But I'm not here for that. I'm here for Laurie Evans saying that Jason Behrendorff "has the smallest head in world cricket" while wearing both of their caps. That is quality content

Sixers XI: 1 Josh Philippe (wk), 2 James Vince, 3 Moises Henriques (capt.), 4Daniel Hughes, 5 Jordan Silk, 6 Dan Christian, 7 Sean Abbott, 8 Hayden Kerr, 9 Chris Jordan, 10 Ben Dwarshuis, 11 Lloyd Pope

Sixers X-Factor Subs: Todd Murphy and Jack Edwards..

Strikers XI: 1 Jake Weatherald, 2 Matt Short, 3 Matt Renshaw, 4 Jon Wells, 5 Thomas Kelly, 6 Harry Nielsen (wk), 7 George Garton, 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Daniel Worrall, 10 Peter Siddle (capt.), 11 Fawad Ahmed

Strikers X-Factor Subs: Henry Hunt, Wes Agar.

So Todd Murphy and Henry Hunt may get their first opportunities at BBL level. Renshaw and I think Fawad in for the Strikers with Drew and Agar out, and the Sixers bring in Kerr for Curran (the same swap that happened last game I believe)

WICKET! WHAT A CATCH FROM DC! Matt Short CANED Dwarshuis while I was showering in the first over, but Abbott kept his over tight and then the last ball is flashed wide of point... or at least wide until a stunning catch from Dan Christian diving to his left. 1/20

WICKET! Weatherald faced all six balls last over, kept the strike, and then lost his wicket to one hit straight up in the air. If you're Jomboy, that's a definition pop fly 2/25
Renshaw survives the surprise hattrick ball.

2/39 from 5

Wells gets a short one from Pope, and dispatches it into the stands over mid wicket! Nice shot.

Chris Jordan now tries too hard! Sends a Harmison down going for a full and wide one. Oh dear. The next one goes for six over deep backward square! Chris Jordan has Never Stop Fighting on his back. Wonder if he feels like that is good advice rn

Henriques into the attack. This is the point where you know everyone else is having issues. Bar Abbott of course... a couple chances though! A big appeal for a Wells caught behind possibility, but the umpire says no edge! Next ball crashes through mid wicket's hands.

WICKET! Replays confirmed the appeal against Wells was out last over. Cost them five runs as a bigger edge off Christian carries easily to Philippe. Wells out for a nice 32 3/85
'
3/85 from 10. Renshaw is a key

Steve O'Keeffe is being ribbed over the mic for his marathon running skills. He should probably focus on his leg fitness skills to be fair.

WICKET! Another speccie! Renshaw whacks it into the deep and it's caught on a big dive forward by Jordan Sil... HAYDEN KERR? Gees, the Sixers have a lot of great fielders 4/89
WICKET! It's falling over now. Nielsen chops on an absolute nothing shot. The Strikers will be wanting Carey back ASAP 5/92

Incredible clouds (not rain ones) over the ground right now. If they were storm clouds they'd be a nice metaphor for the Strikers right now.
WICKET! Garton picks the man on the fence trying to send Pope into the midwicket crowd. 6/107

6/109 from 15. Strikers stumbling

WICKET! Rubbish shot from Rashid who pops it up and Vince takes a nice catch running in. 7/115, I'm going to eat dinner
-------------
8/147 it finishes on. Tom Kelly the star, this kid has a bright future! 41 from 34, including a section of 26 from 13 before he lost his wicket to the final ball, which took Sean Abbott to the top of the all time BBL wickets list. Under par but maybe defendable.

Rashid Khan looks hurt! He pulled up a bit ginger after a quick single while batting and now looks to have jarred whatever it is again in the field. Bad news for the Strikers

Awful fielding! They could have had Vince but Wes Agar misses the catch at gully completely and it goes for four. To be fair, he's a substitute with about five balls of gully experience...

Philippe had just two from his first six balls. He may have got in though as he ramps Siddle's first delivery for six.

Weatherald is off too. This is a major issue for the Strikers. Henry Hunt may be able to get his BBL opportunity soon...
0/38 from 5 and Rashid bowling! He must not be that sore

WICKET! FUZZZZZZY! Three tight legspin overs in a row from Fawad and Rashid gets Vince missing a sweepshot that hits off! 1/44

WICKET! Garton with the massive wicket of Philippe and the Strikers are closing back in! Philippe gets squared up by a offspeed bouncer by Garton and flicks it to backward point. Wells makes no mistake. 2/52

WICKET! Rashid gets another huge wicket! Dan Hughes wasn't playing him at all and this one is edged and given, unlike some last innings. 3/63, and the tenth finishes on that score too

Weatherald was missing due to a dislocated finger. Yikes. Quiet through here thanks to Rashid and Fawad's economic bowling, but still under ten required at the beginning of the Power Surge. Garton started well but second ball was poor and flicked over fine leg for six by Henriques. Four more makes for an expensive over. 3/106 after 15

WICKET! After another big over in the final one of the power surge, Rashid gets Henriques plumb LBW! It was a brilliant move from Siddle to bring him back now. Game swings back in ADelaide's favour 4/115
WICKET! Rashid Khan on a hattrick! Christian walks after another close LBW shout! And they say there's no humility in Australian cricket, as that didn't look 100% out (edit: actually very out). 5/115
Edge from Abbott on the hattrick ball but it goes into space near the wicket.

19 needed from 12 now. Bad misfield from the second ball as Short and Kelly trip over each other! Good recovery from Short saves a run.
WICKET! SILK GOES THE NEXT BALL! A big slash from a wide and short ball is slammed down the throat of the man at deep point! On the bowling all rounders to score 14 from 9, 6/134
Abbott finds the fence though! Garton's sixth boundary of the innings (to go with 12 dots in an odd contrast) reduces the equation to 10 from 8. Wicket still needed. Four more from the final ball, and six needed from the final over. Would be a big effort to defend...

Two runs from the first ball!
KERR WALKS IT OFF WITH A BIG SIX! Great job by the kid (continuing a theme tonight) and the Sydney Sixers defeat the Strikers! Not a flawless performance as their non-Boostage attests but they had enough quality to win the three points. That will do me tonight too. See you tomorrow for another great game, I believe involving the Renegades and the Scorchers

Edit: nearly forgot. MOTM is Sean Abbott for his three wickets (including his 112th, taking him to the all time lead in that department)

Welcome to the game that's Peter Returns To Renegades

Renegades XI: 1 Mackenzie Harvey, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Nic Maddinson (capt.), 4 Sam Harper (wk), 5 Jake Fraser-McGurk, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Will Sutherland, 8 James Pattinson, 9 Kane Richardson, 10 Reece Topley, 11 Zahir Khan.

Renegades X-Factor Subs: Jack Prestwidge, James Seymour.

Scorchers XI: 1 Cam Bancroft, 2 Josh Inglis (wk), 3 Mitch Marsh, 4 Colin Munro, 5 Ashton Turner (capt.), 6 Laurie Evans, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Jason Behrendorff, 10 Peter Hatzoglou, 11 Tymal Mills.

Scorchers X-Factor Subs: Matt Kelly, Nick Hobson.

So the forced change of Bancroft for the injured Patterson for Perth. Meanwhile, Finch replaces Seymour for the Renegades... odd considering Fraser-McGurk has been poor with the bat
