BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Six for McDermott in a replica of his four I mentioned earlier! Great shot from Zahir too.

3/66 from the ten. Wicket down was Brook holing out after a very unhappy sixteen balls. I was eating dinner, sorry

McDermott spanking every bowler left, right & center
Handscomb rotating the strike well :clap

Fifty for McDermott! Great knock, and needed for his team with Wade and Short failing.

Another six for him! Only just clears the ropes, but an expensive night continues for Zahir. Two balls later heads straight for the commentators on the boundary! Jason Richardson doesn't go for it, disappointingly.

Power Surge taken. McDermott's power is surging too! He plants Kane Richardson into the top tier of Etihad Marvel! Next ball is ramped for four! Incredible batting. He will probably have the golden cap by the end of this. Fraser-McGurk misses a great chance to dismiss him, a great effort on the fence is just missed and six more tally onto McDermott's score. Twenty-bloody-five from the over.
Meanwhile at the SCG, the Sixers should be easily chasing the Heat's 105... THEY'RE 4/28????? Suddenly I don't feel all that depressed

Handscomb joins the fun! A lovely leg glance to the rope and Topley's runs conceded nearly double. 3/136 from 15, and a 36-run power surge has the Cane Train dreaming of 180-190.

SIX AND HUNDRED! And it's over extra cover too! What an incredible shot. What an incredible innings. Third time in history we've seen two tons by one player in a BBL, the first two being Craig Simmons (BBL03) and Usman Khawaja (BBL05) (both scored one in a semi too) and the first time ever they've been consecutive.
Contrast that to the Sixers, who are six... wickets for thirty runs. Ooft

Six more to McDermott. This is becoming unremarkable. McDermott's already lit up Marvel once, in the world record run chase. Here he goes again. The first mishit in the night manages to fall safe, and takes him past that special night.

WICKET! Handscomb's support knock finally ends. Exceptional role play from him, but he finally holes out to long on. No relief for the Renegades though as Tim David is next in... let's hope he completes all his runs this time 4/167

Tim David copies McDermott's century shot but sends it even longer! Nicely done. Follows it up with one into the second tier over square leg! Kane Richardson's feeling the Guthrie effect at 0/59 from 3.5... four more to finish! Canes on for 200 here

McDermott and David are one-upping each other with cover sixes! This one nearly makes second tier. Jack Prestwidge must be feeling rough having been given the 20th... Another six over cover for David this time! But it only just clears. McDermott may have won the war. MASSIVE SHOT TO FOLLOW IT! SECOND TIER OVER SQUARE LEG!
WICKET! McDermott is run out from the final ball pinching a bye. The third best innings statistically in BBL history is over from the last ball. 5/206 from the 20. Hobart looked sunk with Wade and Short out cheap and Brook suffering badly. But McDermott played one of the best knocks I've ever had the pleasure of watching, ably supported by Pete Handscomb and nicely finished by Tim David. The unstable Renegades lineup needs 207, against the in form Rogers, Meredith and co... I don't see it

Meanwhile in Sydney...

What a finish!

Jackson Strom on the motocross lighting up the innings break. He has a ton of skills, I gotta say. More of a car person myself though. McDermott in the huddle looks more emotional than fatigued.

SIX FIRST BALL! AND HODGEY DROPS IT! Harper with a nice hook over the rope at deep backward square where Bradley J. Hodge fails to hold onto one that would have been a sitter five years ago. Five wides at the other end of the over prove to be a nasty ending. The makeup ball goes for four. Nineteen from the first over, 17 from the bat of Harper.

WICKET! Finch gone for one! Drives Tom Rogers, who's having a quietly outstanding tournament, straight to Thompson at short cover. 1/19
SPILLED! Thompson drops a dolly (albeit he was running back) to miss a chance to remove Maddinson. A second wicket would have been real trouble. Meanwhile, the Sixers appear to have won the Heat game thanks to great lower order batting from Abbott and Dwarshuis. Well, we did do the same a few nights ago...

WICKET! Held this time. Rogers gets the wicket of Maddo he deserves, slicing to Short at deep point. 2/30
WICKET! WHAT AN BLOODY CATCH! Harvey goes for a golden duck, but what a way! Handscomb put down a sitter at slip, but Riley Meredith hared in from short third man and took the rebound on a screamer. Agony to ecstasy for Rogers. Renegades' young batting is failing again. 3/31
Six for the Hyphen, Fraser-McGurk! That caps off a mad over. Ten from but also two wickets.

3/47 from five. Harper and Fraser-McGurk can only play one way, but will it cost them their wickets?

Harper gets onto one from Sandeep and clubs it twenty rows over mid wicket! 13 from the over.

Fraser-McGurk with a nice paddle sweep now! Just beats Ellis to the deep backward square boundary. The next run brings up a single.

WICKET! Sandeep gets his man! Fraser-McGurks picks the man out at long off. Not great shot selection. 4/69
WICKET! Nabi does exactly the same thing. Sandeep has two from the over, and the Renegades aren't making a fist of this like Abbott and Dwarshuis, 5/73

5/85 from ten. A few good but unremarkable shots from Harper, but the Renegades look dead apart from him.

Surge immediately taken. Good economy shown by Ellis in the first over.

Harper, though, ends the economy! Just 9 came from the first 10 balls of the surge, but Harper saw Tom Rogers miss one ball and whacked it into the mid wicket fence.
CHANCE! A ball into space is fielded well, and Ellis gets in a quick throw. Prestwidge makes it home easily as he's quite a quick runner, but Wade gathers and fires at the bowler's stumps, and hits. Harper is run out and nearly breaks his bat on the pitch square in frustration. He's got the right to, as Prestwidge has completely burned him. 6/102

WICKET! Prestwidge has done the exact same thing again! This time, it's caused some damage as Pattinson and Short collide as he desperately stretches for the crease. But yep, another run out in the same fashion (although it's going for the one rather than three). 7/102
WICKET! Handscomb holds one at slip. Richardson gone. Short has a wicket, 8/103
Topley finishes off another wild over with a AJ Tye style four. Nice batting, too little too late though.

WICKET! Prestwidge, responsible for two wickets of his teanmmates, now gets out himself. Chips it straight to Harry Brook at mid on who takes it while talking to the commentators. Not even a huddle 9/108

9/114 from 15. Apparently the Canes bowlers are suddenly suffering a magnetic repulsion to the stumps...

Dropped! Ellis can't quite get to a high ball in the deep.
WICKET! Zahir was feeling charitable after the drop. Ran halfway down the pitch, missed, and there it is. 121 all out. An easy win for the Hurricanes, and an easy MOTM for McDermott. Great performance though, and we saw some spectacular cricket - thanks to Harper and Topley, it wasn't always spectacular by the Cane Train alone. See you tomorrow for Stoin and Maxi vs Mitch Marsh in the battle of Australia's allrounders that is Stars vs Scorchers.

McDermott was 32 from 29 at one point in his innings.
From then on, he scored 95 runs from 36 balls at a strike rate of 264.
If he struck that well all innings, he'd have got 172 and set, I believe, the second highest T20 innings ever.

Also shoutout Tim David who struck even higher than that, even if it was only across nine balls

In more good news for @ahmedleo414 , @CerealKiller and @Na Maloom Afraad , the Heat are being linked with Fakhar Zaman to replace the injured Tom Abell.

Yesterday's game was canned due to COVID, it will be rescheduled for later in the tournament. Tonight is the annual NYE game at Adelaide Oval!
It is now official. And people in the IG comments are already making jokes about the similarity of 'Fakhar' to a certain word in English. I'm very sorry about them

I have less positive news to report. Apparently, multiple players across the league have tested positive for Covid. No news on the identities of these players or teams, but the Stars would be a decent guess given a non-playing staff member has confirmed to have the virus, and also there's word tonight's game could be postponed which would mean a Strikers or Thunder player

Edit 1: A Thunder player has been confirmed as one case, but there's word that if the rest of the squad tests negative before the bat flip scheduled time, the game will go ahead. Thanks for the new regulations ScoMo, you may have saved the new year's game!

Edit 2: The cases are a Thunder player and one or two Stars players - the majority of the 'large virus outbreak' is Stars backroom staff, who've basically been decimated

Tonight's game is going ahead. Based on the seven playing cases in the Stars camp, the games on the 2nd and 3rd may not be. Also four in the Thunder camp, but this is manageable according to the league
