BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Tonight's game is going ahead. Based on the seven playing cases in the Stars camp, the games on the 2nd and 3rd may not be. Also four in the Thunder camp, but this is manageable according to the league
Can you reveal all the players names who have tested positive?

I would if I knew. BBL hasn't made them available yet. But the Thunder team sheet tonight may have some clues, so I'll tag you when that comes out.
Arjun Nair and Lachie Hearne have travelled with the Thunder to Adelaide to ensure they have a full squad, by the way - would give an indication at least one batsman is involved

You beat me to post it by about three seconds. Those are three hammer blows. The fourth is likely a squad player.

Interesting to see how Oli Davies goes tonight. Played well last year but has been injured.

Strikers lineup for those interested: Jake Weatherald, Matthew Short, Matt Renshaw, Jonathan Wells, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen (wk), George Garton, Rashid Khan, Daniel Worrall, Peter Siddle (capt), Fawad Ahmed

@SMMODS
Alex Hales, Alex Ross, Tanveer Sangha and Sam Whiteman are the four players who tested positive.

Ooft, particularly for Whiteman who misses games for COVID reasons for a second time (missed two earlier as a close contact). One positive though - their isolation time was halved just yesterday. They're able to return on the 6th or 7th, depending on the date of their test

Eventful first five overs. Cutting ducked into a full one from Worrall and had to have a lid change. Since then, he and Gilkes have hit three sixes, and Gilkes has pushed one feebly to long on to be the first wicket to fall today. 1/39 from the five

Rashid misses a c+b in an odd way! Would have made it easily but lost his footing and fell to the ground. Appeal for LBW the next delivery, but impact out of the line.

WICKET! A quiet few overs from the spinners means Cutting looks to attack Siddle. He feathers an edge through to the keeper. 2/62
2/65 from the ten. Work to do

Rashid is troubling Sangha. Beats the outside edge in consecutive balls.

WICKET??? Sangha lathers the ball out to deep mid wicket where Short catches it. But he overbalances back and releases it at the same time. Catches it again inside the rope, but is it clean? No need anyway, his foot is in contact with the rope before he even overbalances. Six runs. It means a bad day gets worse for Garton, whose pants appear to have a small but unnoticed split in them. The final ball is another six that's hit a lot more cleanly.

Worse news for Strikers fans: Matt Short is bowling and Fawad appears to possibly be clutching his ribs. Billings greets him with a boundary, followed by a massive six over mid wicket.

WICKET! Billings picks Short at the same spot. This time, he's a good two metres in. Makes a good catch, then takes a long stare at the rope to celebrate. 3/98

Power Surge. Sangha deals with a full toss from Siddle appropriately three balls in! 78 metres and nearly at the dancers' area! Another one, this time a long way back over long on, brings up his fifty. 3/125 from 16

Big over going from Worrall from here. Four, four, four from the first three! And another flicked from fine leg this time from Oliver "Bruno Mars" Davies means 17 from the over. Huge runs now being generated by the Thunder's youth, neither of whom would be playing if Hales, Khawaja and Ross were all available.

Six more for Sangha! Straight, long and true. Ten for the innings! Brings up eleven two balls later too as Jake Weatherald can't quite perform a miracle at mid wicket to stop one. Oli Davies climbs in too, and hits one into the races! 23 from the over, and Garton is banished with the unsightly figure of 0/47 from three.

Sangha needs 13 from the final over to get a ton. Comes back for two, and doubles over in pain! I hope he's OK... yeah, he fell over after his bat plugged after the crease. A small break in play, but it doesn't look as serious as the commentators are making it out to be. But two singles mean he will finish on 91. 3/187 from the 20. A great innings from the youngsters with Hales out, Ross out, and Billings missing out. They looked in trouble at the halfway mark (62) and after 15 (108), but added 79 from the last five overs. Spinners did well, but all the quicks got savaged except for Worrall, who still went at 8.5. Big chase coming up.

Sams a bit loose in his first over, but 0/16 from two is a Thunder win.

And there's a six from Short! Just picked it up and dropped it over.
WICKET! Short's gone the next ball! Mahmood goes full and straight, and that's plumb LBW. Short with another good start and then dismissal. 1/23

There's a shout from Chris Green's first (and the very next) ball too! It's slid down leg here, though.

McAndrew's first ball is also a shout. A bit more ambitious though as it's clearly impacting outside the line. Brad Hodge's discussing his stories of Chris Gayle's "Universe Boss" themed Bentley... that has that shine on the doors. Extravagant... A lovely flick from Renshaw to the fence slightly distracts them but they're still going. 1/40 from the five

Sam Billings with a shocker! He misses the stumps with his hand trying to break the bails for a runout. Weatherald may have been out too...

The commentators are at it again. They've caught Callum Ferguson munching away on hot chips and have decided to play the old "Fitness is my passion" joke on him. They do actually know he's retired right? Strikers claim the Bash Boost point - their fifth, while they've only won one game outright.

1/81 from the ten. Over ten needed from the final 10 overs.

Power surge called immediately. A relatively good over is spoiled from the second to final ball, where Sams bobbles one in the outfield and it spills away into the rope.
WICKET! Mahmood draws the required wicked the next ball though! Green takes a good catch running back from the ring. Just sliced by Renshaw. He's gone for 38, 2/91

WICKET! Both set batsmen gone! Weatherald skies one and it's easily taken at mid on. 3/96
They do steal a third though from the final ball! Outstanding running.

WICKET! Sangha comes on and bowls a surprise over, then interrupts the Strikers doctor by inducing a false shot to point from Tom Kelly. Catch taken by sub Lachie Hearne, not 100% sure why he's on but if I can figure out who's off and there's no logical reason, then concern stands around COVID issues. The game currently at hand is 4/102

4/115 from 15. 72 needed from the last 5. Thunder did it...

Spilled! Although I've got to give McAndrew credit. He had to run 25 metres in and perform a Superman dive, but he just missed it.
WICKET! Big top edge from Garton goes directly to Mahmood at short fine. He, Billings and Hearne go to run into each other, then stop and look at each other when they remember the COVID protocols. This causes commentator confusion. 5/119

Wells scoops Mahmood! Brave, but it pays off. Harry Nielsen then does the same thing! Interesting...

Wells has decided the game isn't dead yet! He whacks Doggett down the ground for four, then clears the midwicket fence!

Wells smokes McAndrew to the ropes now! 40 from 21 from Wells, and 34 needed from 10. Can they? The next ball would likely have been too but it hits the stumps at the bowler's end! The fence is found again from the final ball, but the Strikers need 28 from the final over, ostensibly to be bowled by Dan Sams.

Just the one from the first ball, a single for Nielsen to get off strike. Wells must hit incredibly to win it from here.
WICKET! He hits it incredibly. Incredibly directly to McAndrew, that is. The game is done, 6/161
WICKET! Rashid Khan was being talked up earlier, questioning why he wasn't coming out instead of Nielsen. He now edges his first ball behind. Brad Hodge eating his words 7/162
7/165 the final score. A comprehensive victory for the Thunder who give each other air fists instead of high fives due to the COVID. Jason Sangha and Oli Davies turned this game for them, and Dan Sams did a great job with the ball to confirm their win.

See you tomorrow - hopefully - for a game between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades, I believe.

More 3 player covid cases for Melbourne stars

All Melbourne Stars players who returned negative PCRs on Thursday, undertook another PCR test again this morning.

It brings the total number of positive cases within the Stars to 10 players and 8 support staff.

All 3 players who tested positive are currently isolating for 7 days, as per government guidelines.

The Stars would like to thank Cricket Australia in ensuring that tomorrow's match against the Perth Scorchers at the CitiPower Centre will still take place.

The final squad for the match will be announced on Sunday morning.

General Manager Blair Crouch said:
"Our thoughts are with our players who have tested positive today and we wish them a speedy recovery.

"Thanks to the medical teams at Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia for their ongoing support under difficult circumstances.

"Despite all the challenges over the last few days, we look forward to taking the field tomorrow at CitiPower Centre to play in front of our members and fans."
