He's undone all that good work. That said, the rinse counter is now at 7

Outstanding economical bowling in the last two from Sandhu and Hasnain. 3/20 for the debutant. 44 needed from three for an Adelaide win.

Wicket! Agar holes out to the captain at mid on. Nielsen needs to hit 38 from 12 to win it. 8/135

Ross Rinse Counter: 8
1641122582854.png
For context, his wallet is what's being rinsed here
Siddle swings, gets bat on and it goes up and over the keeper for four!
WICKET! Siddle swings, misses and Mahmood hits the base of leg. 9/140
The next one cuts Fawad in half! Fawad, for context, has hit a six before, but it's about as likely as the Strikers scoring the 32 from 7 needed. Of course, he straight drives a four as I say that...

WICKET! Great catch by Cutting running in from long on gets Nielsen and ends the game. Nice form from cutting too who grabs it one handed sliding forward on his butt. 144 all out. Game over, Thunder win by 28 runs.

Great knock by Gilkes put the Thunder in a strong position despite a few stumbles, then the bowling led by Hasnain got them home easily. But which of those will be MOTM? Gilkes.

And that's all from Sydney Showgrounds today. See you tomorrow for a depleted Melbourne Derby. And for the final word, Thunder batsman and seven-time rinsing champion Alex Ross...

Joe Clarke and Tom Rogers from Melbourne Stars have tested positive today

Stars XI: 1 Justin Avendano, 2 Travis Dean, 3 Charlie Wakim, 4 Glenn Maxwell (capt.), 5 Hilton Cartwright, 6 Patrick Rowe (wk), 7 Tom O'Connell, 8 Qais Ahmad, 9 Brody Couch, 10 Ahmad Daniyal, 11 Haris Rauf.

The Stars squad has been further depleted by Covid with Joe Clarke and Tom Rogers testing positive, but they're soldiering on under the leadership of The Big Show, Glenn Maxwell.

Renegades XI: 1 Sam Harper (wk), 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Shaun Marsh, 4 Nic Maddinson (capt.), 5 MacKenzie Harvey, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Jack Prestwidge, 8 Will Sutherland, 9 Kane Richardson, 10 Reece Topley, 11 Zahir Khan.

The Stars have won one thing today: the toss. Can they, against the odds, win more? Stay tuned.

Early boundary for Avendano! I think he's a scrub, but he is a nearly BBL-level scrub...

Dean now with a fence!

WICKET! Avendano with a lazy dismissal. He chips one straight back to Nic Maddinson. 1/13

We now get a look at Charlie Wakim, who isn't a bad player by any means - he's Tassie's FC opener. He sweeps Nabi away to the fence. Dean then goes aerial, just clears Sutherland at mid on and gets the boundary that shot deserved.

Sloppy from the Renegades! First, Finch drops Dean at slip. Then short fine lets one through his legs for two runs. Dean makes it pay by a brilliant cover drive for four. Zahir is filthy with his fielders. 1/35 from five

WICKET! Very odd dismissal. Wakim gets a decent edge on one from Maddinson, and not noticing it straight away, Harper nearly drops it trying to stump Wakim. But he goes to walk. Not recommended, cricket kids 2/43

WICKET! Dean bowled, middle stump's out, and Maddinson has three! Great innings from the Victorian opener. 3/56 isn't great tho

WICKET! Topley removes the king's gambit! Slightly edges a hook, and he picks Harvey at deep square. Oh dear. 4/61, and score not changed at the ten

WICKET! Patrick Rowe on debut plays a similar shot to Wells last night. 5/68

WICKET! Good catch running back by Shaun Marsh, he's back! O'Connell goes, 6/72
Qais gets moving though! Flicks Richardson for a six over the long boundary first ball!

Cartwright now goes! Gets well onto a Zahir leggie and nearly hits Ball Park Music who performed earlier!

Richardson is sure he has Qais! But it's off his arm! Nice caught and bowled catch there (albeit not off the bat)
WICKET! One too many slogs for Qais, that one goes straight up. 7/99

Maddinson with an odd drop! He runs back, misjudges it, runs further back, and then gets one hand on it. Great effort, but it's left him looking like my uncle, not a professional cricketer. Seymour makes his own bungle of a really difficult fielding situation two balls later, nearly pulling one back from trickling into the fence but not arresting enough momentum.

WICKET! Couch is out caught behind. I'll be honest, I wasn't looking at the TV 8/109
Cartwright takes out those frustations on the umpire! He aims a straight drive at Bruce Oxenford's head. Luckily he can duck out of the way.

WICKET! Cartwright picks out Harvey directly on the rope. He does a great job not to step on the boundary. Would have been six at Marvel, but he's gone at the MCG 9/117
Out comes Ahmad Daniyal. With Qais Ahmad's bad. Melbourne Stars CC. Rauf flicks a six over fine leg, which is outstanding! Rauf then nearly holes out and nearly makes the boundary for four. Only one, should have been two but bad running from the tailenders.
WICKET! Rauf castled from the final ball, so three each for Richardson (expected), Topley (expected) and Maddinson (wait wut). 126 all out should be a comfortable chase for the Renegades, particularly with Marsh back, but they've fallen short of it several times already...

Right, then. If the Renegades take all four points, they jump to sixth despite being crap so far (by virtue of the washout). Harper's got them going positively, flicking Daniyal for four over backward point.

WICKET! Harper gone quickly, and there's hope for the Stars! Harper runs, down, misses and Patrick Rowe does a great job to stump him after bobbling the ball. Deserved wicket for the
brilliant Qais, and great moment for Rowe 1/10

Finch wacks Qais back over his head! Nice shot.

1/36 from six, because I can't keep track of the time

Finch attacks Qais! He gets a big six down the ground, then a four, and then Marsh draws a misfield from Maxwell at long on. No cost though. A chance is drawn from the final ball, though! Dean runs in with an athletic effort, gets both hands to the ball but can't hang on.

Renegades bank the Bash Boost point. They now pass the Strikers for last. Impressively done too, with an uppercut six from Finch. That drop is costly.

WICKET! Marsh is gone. Daniyal gets his BBL first. Couch runs in from fine leg and takes a good catch from a high ball. 2/73
2/78 from 10. Looks like it should be a comfortable Renegades win

WICKET! Maddinson far less successful with bat than ball. LBW to O'Connell for four. Stars still have a chance, 3/87
WICKET! AND THE GAME'S BACK IN THE BALANCE DUE TO AN UNLIKELY HERO! Finch belts it from O'Connell, and Rauf catches it on the rope. Then throws it up, overbalances and comes back in to catch it! Is it actually out though? Not a waist high fullie (only thigh height), but he's awfully tlose to touching the rope! Is he too close? Rope isn't moving, but is he touching it? The umpire says insufficient evidence to overturn the original call of out! So Finch is gone! The crowd erupts, Finch cannot believe it (although I wonder how much of that is the inconclusive call, and how much is that massive fast bowler performing contortionism) and the game has life! 4/90

WICKET! HARIS RAUF IS TURNING THIS GAME ON ITS HEAD! He goes straight through Nabi and into his pegs! Suddenly the Renegades need 36 still, but with one established pair left! Is this BBL|08 but in reverse? 5/91

Harvey now turns it the other way with a pair of cover drives! A wicket is all that will turn this for the Stars. 5/108 from 15, 19 needed from the last five.

Cartwright looks injured. He took a dive, and jolted himself hard. It's either a shoulder issue or blurred vision. Meanwhile, Seymour whacks Couch to the fence. Surely now...

Yep. Power surge taken, and Seymour plays an outstanding reverse sweep over third man for a boundary.

Rauf with an incredible ball! Harvey does exceptionally to get out of the way, while Rowe does even better to stop it. The next ball goes to the point fence to end the game. The Renegades have won a game! Great game of cricket. The Stars showed a ton of fight and found some new contributors in Rowe behind the stumps and Dean up top (as well as a very familiar Pakistani quick), but they couldn't deal with a full-strength Renegades team in the end. Kane Richardson is POTM - Maddinson likely missed out because of his batting failure. He praises the Stars for their fight, wishes them the best for getting their players back and says that it doesn't feel right to play that game. Interesting.

See you tomorrow for more pain for me the Sixers taking on the Heat again!

I have good news: my inevitable depression attack has been delayed a day! Bad news: it'll probably be worse. The Heat have some covid cases. Now for some clubs who don't... probably. More on that later.

Scorchers XI: 1 Kurtis Patterson, 2 Cameron Bancroft (wk), 3 Colin Munro, 4 Laurie Evans, 5 Ashton Turner (capt.), 6 Aaron Hardie, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Peter Hatzoglou, 10 Tymal Mills, 11 Lance Morris.

Scorchers X-Factor Subs: Chris Sabburg, David Moody.

Sixers XI: 1 Josh Philippe (wk), 2 James Vince, 3 Moises Henriques (capt.), 4 Jack Edwards, 5 Jordan Silk, 6 Dan Christian, 7 Sean Abbott, 8 Hayden Kerr, 9 Ben Dwarshuis, 10 Jackson Bird, 11 Stephen O'Keefe.

Sixers X-Factor Subs: Mickey Edwards, Todd Murphy.

Now, when I say more on that later, if you look at the Sixers side, there's no Dan Hughes and no Shadab Khan. Neither of those two would be normally dropped. So wonder what's going on there. Scorchers haven't got Behrendorff either, but this is more likely injury related given his history. Chris Sabburg back after several seasons out as an Xfactor player.

Behrendorff appears to have actually been dropped. Not sure about that one. As for the Sixers, Shadab appears to have been dropped to bring in a paceman (but why him over Lloyd Pope?) while Hughes seems to have a minor injury as Moises says he wasn't in the matchday squad.

Bancroft kicking tonight off on the right foot. Premeditates a scoop, Bird follows him across towards the wide line, and Bancroft adjusts to reverse scoop it!

WICKET! Bancroft gets just a feather swinging at one from Bird, and Philippe pouches it. 1/15
I didn't think a pair was possible in a T20, by the way...
1641284996807.png

Economic bowling from the Sixers has brought them back into the game after a fast Scorchers start. 1/27 from five.

DROPPED! Henriques puts down a tough high ball running backwards. Takes two bites and can't hold either. A letoff from Munro (six from 13 before that).

Patterson breaks up a few quiet overs! Takes one on his hip from Bird and flicks it just over the fence for six.

Six for Munro! He just clears the man on the boundary with a slog over wide mid on. 1/62 from 10, but concerningly for the Sixers, O'Keeffe has copped a significant blow to his fingers from the final ball before drinks.

WICKET! The Sixers finally break through. Patterson, who had been motoring along, flicks that straight to backward point. Abbott has safe hands. 2/62
Patterson had significant problems with the heat through that innings, he looks fairly relieved to be able to have a cool down. Evans in now.
WICKET! Evans lasted three balls. Edge behind, and a two wicket maiden could be on 3/62

WICKET! What a catch by Christo! He stops a Turner drive but can't hold on, but then gets it with an outstretched right hand on the way back down. Great catch. Perth in trouble at 4/68
WICKET! Make that a collapse. Munro replicates Patterson's dismissal. The mediums are doing the trick tonight 5/69

Details on Hughes' absence is available. He is missing due to a non-COVID illness. Hope he feels better soon.

5/83 from 15. Scorchers struggling, but so are the Sixers with their health: Steve O'Keeffe is out of this game, and the commentators are suggesting he has a compound fracture based on what Holly Ferling's seeing.
