BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Hardie middles a pull! A short ball from Dwarshuis gets absolutely hammered over the rope. Agar joins in from the third ball, just lobbing over two fielders at square leg and over the rope! The next ball goes straight and true too. This over's single handedly getting the Scorchers back into it. 20 from the over.

Kerr delivers a pie to Agar and regrets it! A Scorchers ballboy has to run into the empty seats in the top deck it's gone to. 94 metres deep!
WICKET! Next one goes similarly high but straight down the throat of Jordan Silk at long on. 6/118

WICKET! AJ Tye also picks Silk, this time at mid wicket. Goes for the full style mode on his knees and gets it. Two in two balls and two overs, 7/118

Hardie's playing a great knock to get Perth to a defendable total. Punches one directly between mid off and cover, neither of whom dive for it, for four. Then swings Kerr over deep backward square for six!
WICKET! Final ball gets Hardie out going for a six. Big slice down the ground and taken at long on. 8/143 in the end for the Scorchers. It was the all rounders doing all the damage for both sides, with hitting from Hardie and Agar getting the Scorchers to a defendable total after great bowling from DC and Kerr brought the middle order down. Stay tuned for an intriguing reply!

WICKET! The lightning pace of Lance Morris gets a HUGE wicket straight away! Philippe with an outside edge that goes directly to Cam Bancroft's gloves! 1/0

WICKET! Edwards hammers it straight to Colin Munro at short cover. Munro looks unhappy for some reason. He shouldn't be because Sydney are 2/5

WICKET! A sloppy over from Morris featuring a no-ball and a wide free hit ends perfectly for Perth! Morris holds one just a bit in the wicket, Henriques gets it in the air, and he becomes the second Sixer to pick out Col Munro (but at square leg now). 3/16

WICKET! The Sixers played like this last game too! Vince chops on. 4/16
Big shout from the next ball too! I suspect height was the issue, although it may have also been pitching outside leg.

4/23 from 5. But... Reminder for any Sixers fans: they were 7/35 against us and still won...

HUGE appeal from Tye! Umpire says there's no nick. Sounds like a noise but there's no deviation, so either call's kinda understandable. Agar, Tye and Bancroft are irritated.

A boundary finally! Christian sweeps hard and whacks it to the fence through mid wicket.

4/41 from ten. Sixers in trouble. Big time

Surge taken. They really need the power. Current RR: 4.5. Required RR: 10.5. Now or never.
DC finally hits the first six of the innings! He gets a fast one from Mills, and uses the past to flick it up and over the backward square boundary.

WICKET! Colin Munro makes the C for his kids again, and it's again a huge wicket! Silk tries to replicate the six Christian hit, but picks the Kiwi at deep square leg! BIG moment. 5/61
WICKET! Abbott can't be the miracle man today. One four, and then edges one through to Bancroft. 6/67

6/85 from 15

Forgot to mention, the score was that high because Christian hit back-to-back boundaries from Hatzoglou last over.

Agar cops one on the hand! Luckily it hits him in the palm and not the fingers... the chance for a c+b goes down though.

Overthrow! It's forgivable as Kerr would have been very gone had it hit, but it missed.
Christian brings up fifty with an absolute bomb! It goes up into the second tier over mid wicket. 108 METRES! That's the biggest six this BBL! Ninth fifty for DC at BBL level and none have been more important. It's his chase to run home from here.

This could be the over - Agar is defending the short boundary. Christian gets a pie and puts it over long on for six! 35 needed from 16 I believe. Goes again, and hits it out of the ground! If anyone remembers the Pooran shots last year, that was an outstanding facsimile - this time it's 97 metres! 19 from the last five balls, and the game is in the balance. Getting Christian seals it. But not getting him loses it.
MISSED STUMPING! Bancroft drops one that Christian runs down at and misses. Not a wide though!

WICKET! A great over from Tye - two singles and a four being the only score off the first four. Christian has to keep going, and he slices a short, wide ball to Chris Sabburg, on a BBL field for the first time in 8 years (and a noted great fielder) at cover. 7/124, and game probably. But I'd like to give a big shoutout to DC - 73 from 61 was the only thing that brought the Sixers in contention.

WICKET! It's six or lose for Dwarshuis from the second to last ball. He misses, Mills hits and lose is chosen.
A wild finish for the fielders! Bird chips one up, and Mills runs back to try and claim it while Sabburg charges in from mid on. Mills has to hurdle over Sabburg to avoid putting his foot in Sabburg's mouth, while the sub grasses the chance.
But despite that, it's a comfortable enough win for the Scorchers that confirms them to be first in the league. Aaron Hardie is POTM for his 45. Christian was easily the best player out there but losing would have torpedoed his chances. See you tomorrow for, first, Adelaide versus Hobart, and then hopefully the Heat game that was meant to be today!

Maxi has the covid.

David Hussey is gonna have to play at this rate.
Huss has covid too. It's Chris Rogers in charge. He is a batsman...

In more positive news (or more negative news?), Adelaide and Hobart aren't affected whatsoever so tonight's first game is able to be played.

12 players from Brisbane Heat camp are also found covid positive
Everyone's complaining about this on social media. They've forgotten a side of premier grade cricketers would be significantly better than the Heat have been this year. Of course, being the Heat, we've managed to not sign anyone and as such have had our match postponed.

Gonna reach the point where if you own a cricket bat and turn up at the ground with a negative result you might get a game.

Are they at the point where they might as well let the positive players play and isolate the negative?
I don't understand why are they continuing the rest of the matches. Today Melbourne Renegades have also got one case.

FYI: Our outbreak didn't come from onfield transmission, which is a positive. Holly Ferling confirmed last night it was likely through club physio Martin Love who tested positive a few days ago

The answer is usually money.
Nah, it's because there are zero competent administrators in Australia. A-League, BBL and Supercars fan here. All three have crap management
Edit: guess that inconclusive case involving Jpat came back, relatively good news for the Renegades if that's the case as he's been isolating since last year

FYI: tomorrow's game can go ahead as the Heat have replacement players in Melbourne, plus Fakhar Zaman who wasn't allowed to meet with the squad for border restrition reasons.

Of course, the fact that we can't find QLD replacements but can find VIC ones suggests that the bubble should happen already...

I'm fairly sure CA butted heads with broadcasters initially at the start of the pandemic.

Sport, under circumstances that are less than deal, has continued because clubs, boards need their money and broadcasters are less inclined to pay up when there's no sport to show. I've loved watching endless cricket for the last couple of years but there have been times where continuing to play is completely ridiculous.

There was no Wimbledon in 2020 because they had, by some coincidence, taken out pandemic insurance the previous year. Practically no one else had that foresight so it's all trying to fill the coffers again.
