BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

All Melbourne Stars players who returned negative PCRs on Thursday, undertook another PCR test again this morning.

It brings the total number of positive cases within the Stars to 10 players and 8 support staff.

All 3 players who tested positive are currently isolating for 7 days, as per government guidelines.

The Stars would like to thank Cricket Australia in ensuring that tomorrow's match against the Perth Scorchers at the CitiPower Centre will still take place.

The final squad for the match will be announced on Sunday morning.

General Manager Blair Crouch said:
"Our thoughts are with our players who have tested positive today and we wish them a speedy recovery.

"Thanks to the medical teams at Cricket Victoria and Cricket Australia for their ongoing support under difficult circumstances.

"Despite all the challenges over the last few days, we look forward to taking the field tomorrow at CitiPower Centre to play in front of our members and fans."
What we have here is an incredibly experienced squad with no weaknesses whatsoever

Also, is that the Tom Rogers?

In a recap of yesterday (neither game was televised so I had zero access to them), the Heat beat the Hurricanes thanks to lower order batting and bowling well (our two actual skills), while the match between Sixers and Renegades was washed out

Also, is that the Tom Rogers?
Nope but Tom Rogers But Not That One is actually really good. Shame nobody else other than Joe Clarke was.

Thunder: 1 Matt Gilkes, 2 Ben Cutting, 3 Jason Sangha, 4 Sam Billings (wk), 5 Ollie Davies, 6 Daniel Sams, 7 Arjun Nair, 8 Chris Green (captain), 9 Gurinder Sandhu, 10 Mohammad Hasnain, 11 Saqib Mahmood. X-Factors: 12 Baxter Holt, 13 Brendan Doggett.

Strikers: 1 Matt Short, 2 Jake Weatherald, 3 Matt Renshaw, 4 Jon Wells, 5 Tom Kelly, 6 Henry Hunt, 7 Harry Nielsen (wk), 8 Rashid Khan, 9 Wes Agar, 10 Peter Siddle (c), 11 Fawad Ahmed. X-Factors: 12 Dan Worrall, 13 George Garton

Hasnain and Sandhu in as straight swaps for McAndrew and Doggett for the Thunder. As for the Strikers, Worrall and Agar swap again while Garton is dropped after his awful performance last time, for... HENRY HUNT??? Don't get me wrong, kid deserves this shot, but also are they sure they're getting four overs from Short as well as Rashid and Fawad? I'd have kept Worrall in myself

Kinda SPILLED by Rashid! Gilkes cuts it to him and it either just bounces short or he can't get his hands under it. Life from the second delivery of the innings
Stars fans on twitter acting like Maxwell cost them the win today, conveniently ignoring seven starters were in isolation and they were playing four T20 debutants and a club cricketer in Avendano. This is why to avoid Twitter unless Alex Ross is doing livecoms

Ross rinse counter: 2
1641111540121.png
But he's now Ben Driving (or more accurately, driving Agar to the cover rope for the first boundary of the game!). And now Ben Running Into Wes Agar after a LBW appeal

Cutting goes up and over Siddle at mid off, and for four! I'll stop with the gag, unlike Ross who is beginning to make me want to have Gilkes on strike. Gilkes does get on, and then replicates it but executes better. One bounce. Follows with a nice slash. Expensive over, 15 from, but that is two of the four part time overs needed done in the first three

Henry Hunt's first touch of a ball at BBL level doesn't go to plan. He slips going for his throw back to the keeper. No cost though.
Shout from Siddle, but pitching just outside leg. Final ball is in the slot though and Cutting dispatches it 25 rows back. Brutal shot

Gilkes now! He lofts Fawad up and over mid on for six. 0/48 from the five.

Cutting hammers Fawad! Still not a sweep to Ross's chagrin, but the team appreciate the six.
Speaking of Ross, the rinse counter is now three

WICKET! The opening stand is finally broken. Cutting went for it again, hit it straight up and Wells snaffles the high ball. 1/64

Clever shot from Gilkes, but nearly too cute! Reverse paddle that nearly lands straight in the hand of Short.
WICKET! Sangha not as lucky. A big top edge from a sweep off Rashid carries to Adelaide's other leggie, and he's gone. 2/73
Big shout for Gilkes the next ball! But it's spinning down.

Ooop, lost track here. 2/91 from 12

WICKET! Billings holes out to long on! Maybe his final BBL11 innings and it's a disappoinment, 3/97

Gilkes gives Fawad the long handle over long on! That six brings up a 39-ball fifty. Splices a repeat attempt but there's acres of space where it lands. But the next one does have it to find the boundary, a strong pull through mid wicket. 0/51 for Fawad surprisingly. 3/124 from 15

Surge taken to start the 17th. Quiet over until the penultimate ball, where Davies plays a flick to a yorker that Wes Agar misses badly at short fine. Siddle reacts with frustration to his fielder and "there's nothing I could do about that" to the shot.
WICKET! Next ball, same delivery, no contact. Plumb. 4/140

Rashid travels! Two identical sweeps from Gilkes bring two boundaries, then he dances down and lofts another over mid wicket! The young keeper batter is playing a knock on the level of Sangha's two days ago.

WICKET! Another full and straight yorker cleans up Sams' pegs. 5/154
Gilkes deals with the full problem by ramping a boundary. Outstanding shot.

Gilkes only gets the strike on the third ball of the final over. That travels over backward square leg for six. Gilkes to 91. Gets back for a great two the next ball! 93, seven needed from two balls.
WICKET! Holes out to Renshaw trying to replicate that third ball. Gilkes' innings is over, but 93 is still the greatest knock of his career. Renshaw nearly shoved it into the ground too 6/172
Wait, there's a review... Gilkes is still in the field of play. And now he goes.
WICKET! Green hits the finall ball straight up in the air. 7/172

Great innings from Gilkes was the backbone of that 172. It's a competitive score on this wicket and given this Strikers batting unit, you could argue they are favourites.

Wow! Hasnain took 3 wickets in his first ever BBL over.

Not sure why you all aren't asking me the same question. Welcome back to the chase.
Welp, Sqaib has a chance first ball as far as I can make out and Oli Davies can only parry it (update: was bump ball). Short then drills Mahmood aerially back down the ground for four. Slices the next ball a bit, but only a good diving stop by Cutting stops another four. Weatherald does find the fence from the final ball, a blazed cut taking the over's expense to 14.
Meanwhile in the Twitterverse...

We've had a false positive. Fortunately for all involved, it's the Zing bails. No idea what else that could mean. Sandhu with a big shout, but if they all worked properly and Short was out of the way, they wouldn't have lit up. Weatherald then cracks another one through point. Short also finds the rope from Sandhu, obliterating the final ball to mid wicket.

WICKET! Second ball, Hasnain gets his first BBL wicket! Short flicks it well, but he picks Daniel Sams directly. 1/25
WICKET! This is @CerealKiller / @ahmedleo414 / @Na Maloom Afraad bait! Hasnain on a hattrick! Weatherald perishes to an unplayable inswinger that's somehow even more plumb than the yorker on middle that disposed of Davies earlier. 2/25
WICKET! Or at least it would have been but Wells got bat on it. Sorry Pakistanis, I couldn't help myself with a bit of a harmless prank.
WICKET! This one isn't a troll! Wells flicks Hasnain directly to short mid wicket. Renshaw up the other end mouthing to himself "I'm glad I'm at this end" 3/25
The final one goes directly through Henry Hunt too! Outside off though. Three for none from one.

Right, Daniel Sams. This may be quieter despite his wicket taking credentials. Of course, it isn't - Renshaw's nearly run out from the first ball.

Single! That's a notable single because it's finally a run from Hasnain.
Wow! Hasnain took 3 wickets in his first ever BBL over.
The third was an abject shot from Jon Wells, but it's a shot he'd have only ever played with the pressure caused by the first two. Spellbinding fast bowling, and with Mahmood exiting stage right soon, it's necessary
3/36 from 5. A tough start from Adelaide

Shout from Green! Impact looked pretty blatantly outside off though.

Jason Sangha sneaks in an over (must be a Sangha bowling quota) and Renshaw drills him back past for four. Then slices one badly but it lands into space over cover's head.
Meanwhile, I suspect the Ross Rinse Counter has actually decreased...
1641119191069.png
WICKET! Hunt didn't impress in his first BBL game, but when he's brought in at 3/25 (and also batting at five when he's an opener), is it ever easy to impress? He's stumped handily. 4/50

Much better signs from Renshaw than from his colleagues. He pulls Green away to the boards.

WICKET! Sangha gets his second. Are we sure this isn't Tanveer? Renshaw holes out to mid wicket. 5/65
Ross Rinse Counter: 6
1641119676657.png

Attempted block by Saqib. Nope, he hits the boundary. That's given the Strikers a chance for another Bash Boost point.
Stumping appeal! Nielsen's in his ground the entire time, but is his foot up when Billings whips off the stumps? It looks like he may have got his foot down in the same frame. And he has. Work in the nick of time for Nielsen
1641119949608.png

5/74 from the ten. Strikers win the boost, but the Thunder look in control

Guess who's back
1641120367761.png
Saqib's been loose today. Obviously went for 14 straight up, then in this over has bowled a head height bouncer wide (or close to it) and then a pie that Kelly flicks to the fine leg fence.

Hasnain provides his first error of the night! Nielsen steps across and a meatball of a full toss is provided. The 57-metre boundary is zero match for the flick that follows. A rubbish misfield adds four more onto the conceded sheet, as it spins past Arjun Nair on the bounce.

Surge to start the 14th. Three wides to start the Surge. Loose from Sams. Slower ball bumper finally gets one on the board.
WICKET! Gilkes fielding in the field finally works! Nielsen flicks the ball away and they take a risky run given it's a keeper throwing from point. Dead hit (albeit not much marinara on that throw) and Kelly has been burned. 6/110

WICKET! No Rashid magic tonight. The helicopter he hit was impressive, but its distance wasn't. It only just cleared the ring and Jono Cook, on as a sub, takes an easy catch. Nielsen with the world to do, 7/111
Boundary from the final ball means ten from the final surge over. 7/121
