BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

1.1: Beau Webster's first ball of this BBL is dispatched back over his head for four.
1.3: Nick Hobson is moving. Gets a half tracker and disposes it between the two fielders out on the leg side.
1.6: Third four of the over! Patterson this time replicating Hobson's shot from the third ball of the over. 13 from.

2.2: WICKET! And what a celebration from Haris! Patterson flashes at a wide one and Joe Clarke catches the ball. No real appeal from the keeper but Haris and everyone else is convinced and so is the umpire. Rauf visualises sanitising his hands, then pulls out a disposable mask from his pocket and puts it on. Sign of the times, eh 1/22

3.6: Sweet, sweet timing from Hobson to the fence! Lovely shot

4.4: Lovely shot from Evans! He slog sweeps Ahmad 82 metres up and over the short boundary. Cartwright's even more impressive though as he leaps over the advertising hoardings without a care in the world.
1/43 from five

7.1: Evans replicates his earlier shot! Only 80 metres, but still six.
7.2: Appeal from Clarke! He is sure he's heard something. But no evidence on the replays
7.4: Cartwright is so close to taking a worldie! Hobson lofts Qais over towards the longer mid wciket boundary and a Superman-diving Cartwright just misses it. Four runs.

1/790 from ten. Couch subbed out for Hinchliffe

Surge taken straight away.
10.1: Hammered by Evans! Rauf disappears over long on. Fleming is chatting with Hussey, who stitches Hodge and Maher up by basically giving him a love letter. Also attempting to break the record for use of the phrase 'the boys'.
10.4: Evans gets all over that! Flicked up and over squar eleg.
10.6: Four more from the final ball!

11.1: Nick Hobson drives Zampa back down the ground for four!
11.2: Two boundaries from two! Hobson slog sweeps well into a gap.
11.3: WICKET! Hobson tries to go for three in a row but slices it to short third instead. Nice innings from Hobson. 2/105
11.4: Nice start for Turner! Drives Zampa to the cover boundary.
11.5: Another cover drive, this one even better! 18 from both Surge overs

Replays show that Evans and Hobson swapped ends during the drinks break without the umpires noticing.
12.3: Turner gets onto a short one from Rainbird and puts it over the short boundary for six!

13.4: Yep, another slog sweep six! Hinchcliffe drops one up into the slot. It goes.
13.5: Four more, same zone. Just along the ground though.

14.4: Stumping appeal! But it's not a good one as Evans never leaves his crease.
14.5: Evans took it personally! Lofts Qais up and over cover for a six.

2/152 from 15

15.3: Deft late cut there! Evans is moving along well. 50 partnership up too.

16.1: That's almost into the third tier! It's been whacked 93 metres. Hinchcliffe is suffering.
16.3: Burns misses a chance! Evans gets a bit top edge, and I'd suggest he lost in the sun, as he never seemed to know its location.

18.1: WICKET! Full and straight works for Rauf. Evans isn't pleased with the decision but given he missed the ramp and it was probably hitting leg, he has to go. 3/176
18.2: WHAT A SHOT! Hardie drives his first ball sweetly for six over cover. Special shot

19.3: Tenth six of the innings. Hardie gets a short one from Rainbird and swings it away over the short square boundary.

Good last over from Rainbird to keep it under 200, but still, 3/196 is a great innings. Evans and Turner got them there well, with Hobson and Hardie contributing. Melbourne need their stars to fire to make it.

Nick Larkin and Beau Webster opening. Hmmmmmm............

1.1: WICKET! Larkin gone. Yorker goes straight through him. Probably for the best if it brings out Joe Clarke. 1/1
Of course, the Stars blow it by bringing out Joe Burns. Why aren't they putting their big guns out there?
Update: it appears Clarke will be used lower in the order due to reconditioning

3.1: Four for Webster! Drives AJ Tye back to mid off for four.
3.3: That's even more powerful! Webster slugs (wink) him back over his head. Two bounces and across the rope.
3.5: Beau Webster is targeting Tye! A third straight drive and a third boundary.

4.1: SIX! Burns targets mid wicket and gets it just over the fence. Needs to keep that up

1/33 from 5. 24 of those from the last 2 overs

6.1: HUGE shot from Burns! Behrendorff comes back into the attack, bowls one in the slot and Burns puts it 90 metres deep into the third tier.
6.4: A top edge from Webster beats Hatzoglou and brings up Melbourne's fifty.
6.5: SIX! Webster gets a massive top edge and it goes miles into the air, and just clears AJ Tye and lands on the advertising barrier.
6.6: Webster drives this for one, and nearly hits Burns! 18 from the over.

8.1: WICKET! Burns top edges a attempt at another six and Kelly takes an easy caught and bowled. 2/59

9.5: WICKET! Maxwell goes big, and fails to connect enough. Mid wicket takes the catch. Also, Bash Boost point is going to the Scorchers as a result. 3/69 from the ten

At this point, my Discord server got raided so I checked out. Sorry.

Perth win by 47 runs. Laurie Evans MOTM.

Renegades XI: 1 Jake Fraser-McGurk, 2 Aaron Finch, 3 Shaun Marsh, 4 Nic Maddinson (capt), 5 Mackenzie Harvey, 6 Sam Harper (wk), 7 Will Sutherland, 8 Cameron Boyce, 9 Kane Richardson, 10 Josh Lalor, 11 Zahir Khan. X-factor subs: Zak Evans, Jono Merlo

Sixers XI: 1 Jack Edwards, 2 Josh Philippe (wk), 3 Daniel Hughes, 4 Moises Henriques (capt), 5 Shadab Khan, 6 Dan Christian, 7 Sean Abbott, 8 Hayden Kerr, 9 Ben Dwarshuis, 10 Jackson Bird, 11 Todd Murphy. X-factor subs: Lloyd Pope, Justin Avendano

Moises and Abbott back in for the Sixers and Silk out with a hamstring complaint. Fraser-McGurk replaces Seymour as his replacement contract can no longer be valid with Boyce back with the team. Boyce also comes in

0.3: WICKET! Good catch. Philippe skies a big shot, and Fraser McGurk takes a great catch on the rope. Less athletic, but there were millimetres between his feet and the rope! 1/0
0.4: Edwards flicks his first ball off his legs to the rope. Nice reply.

1.3: Hammered through cover by Edwards! Good shot, he looks nice today.

2.6: First six of the day! Hughesall over one from Lalor and puts it into the deep.

3.1: Bad start for the now mulletless Sutherland. Big fullie is drilled back past by Edwards, Lalor misses it at mid on, and four.
3.2: Nearly chops on, and then misfielded at short fine, resulting in three!
3.3: Another four straight back down the ground! Hughes just plays a good classical straight drive.

1/38 from five

2/71 from ten. The one wicket was another outfield speccie (do the Renegades catch anything else?), this time a juggle across the rope by Maddinson to remove Hughes. Edwards rolling along nicely.

10.1: WICKET! Boyce gets his second. Fraser-McGurk picked out on the fence again. Edwards goes. 3/71

Surge taken to start the 13th
13.4: Finally! Henriques slashes one away through cover for four.
13.5: Two from two! Taken much squarer on the leg side this time, and makes it to the fence.

14.1: Too wide from Lalor and drilled to the rope by Christian! Good shot
14.6: Not controlled, but a thick edge runs to the third man rope. 21 from the surge

3/112 from 16

Had to do more IRL stuff. 6/150 from 20

0.2: Big edge from Fraser-McGurk! Slices it away through third man and it makes the fence.
0.5: WICKET! Fraser-McGurk fails again and he's unhappy with the umpire. Looks pretty plumb though. Bird pins him and brings the first wicket. 1/7

1.4: WICKET! Plumber. Finch is pinned in front. Abbott with his 120th. 2/11

2.1: Dropped! Would have been three. Kerr spills one hit to him at cover by Maddinson. Oh dear
2.5: A boundary. Marsh slashes a wide one from Bird away to the fence.

3.5: Abbott gets it wrong and puts it on Marsh's hip. This is easily dealt with to fine leg.

2/30 from five

7.3: Stumping referral, but it doesn't look promising for Sydney. And indeed, Marsh seems to have got back.
7.5: MADDO DOESN'T THOUGH! Murphy gets the wicket, and Maddinson's labour of labour is over at 9 from 16. 3/41

8.2: They needed to do something, and Shaun Marsh drives Dwarshuis away to the cover boundary.

3/56 from 10. Need acceleration now, the Renegades

10.3: Bad umpiring. The towel falls out of Kerr's pants on the approach, and Harvey is distracted and misses as a result. No dead ball called. Oh dear
10.5: Good shot! Marsh climbs all over a short one from Kerr and clears the short boundary.

11.2: WICKET! Philippe loses a high ball in the air, then finds it again, hares across and takes it. Great catch. 4/65
11.3: Marsh down! He slips over running - luckily he slides butt first into the crease.

12.1: WICKET! Kerr gets the big wicket! Marsh tries to plant him into the stands and gets his stumps rearranged. Dire straits now for Melbourne, and indeed their season 5/68

Surge taken to begin the 14th
13.1: WICKET! First ball of the surge sees Sutherland pick deep square leg. Dwarshuis with his second. 6/73
13.2: That's a better attempt from Harper! Same shot, hit better, and nobody out. Six runs.
13.3: Six more! A big full toss this time and Harper climbs all over it and sends it 64 metres just over the short boundary.
13.4: WICKET! Tries to go through the off side this time, doesn't quite connect and a good catch by Abbott. 7/85

14.1: WICKET! Full and straight too good for Boyce, and Abbott gets his second. 8/85
14.3: Dropped! Henriques puts down a Lalor high ball. Not that it'll affect the result
14.5: Kane Richardson going for it! He connects with Abbott's ball and drops it 97 metres over mid wicket! That's a surprise from a tailender.
8/95 from 15

15.2: Richardson now dropped! Christian drops one running in from the boundary. Dew may be a factor. He's going down swinging to be fair

16.3: WICKET! Goes through Lalor and bowls him. Dwarshuis has his fourth. 9/105
16.6: WICKET! Dwarshuis yorks Zahir to end the game, and gets his five for! 105.

Well, there's a cultural problem at the Renegades. Two coaches, three years, zero progress made. Maybe it's that Aaron Finch has been useless the last few years at BBL level. I'd love to see a Lynn-Finch trade, both suck at their current homes. Sydney are in the hunt for the second Qualifier spot (Perth locked in earlier today) thanks to some good bowling winning them the game. Dwarshuis is MOTM for his maiden T20 five-for.

FYI: I took a one day break a few games back, not knowing that every game after that either clashed with the Test, with an IRL commitment or wasn't televised. Until tonight. Thge live blog returns.
