BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

15.1: First a correction, actually 4/87 from 15 - two wides to start Hasnain's over. Then, there's a half volleyed chance! McAndrew needed to run in more aggressively.

Surge taken to start the 17th
16.1: Lucky for David. Most of those have gone straight up today. This big edge runs away to the fence. Just the sixth boundary of the day.
16.5: WICKET! That one is true to form. Up into the air and comfortably caught by Sangha. Sams with the wicket, 5/102

17.4: SLAMMED over cover for four by Short! Finally a shot.
17.5: Back to back for Short! This one was more fortuitous. Gets all the way out, Sams makes the ground only to miss the ball with his dive.
17.6: That one goes back down the ground! Short rolling now. Boundary hattrick

18.3: Wicket? Short doesn't catch that one as well and it carries to Gilkes at deep mid wicket... no, it isn't out! Gilkes drops the ball and lays on it. So, another drop. Why not play Ross over Holt and then put Gilkes behind the stumps? LONG review here, but it's not out.
18.6: SHOT from Thompson! Clears the man at long on for another six.

19.2: WICKET! Sangha holds this one, but he isn't very pleased. Fourth high ball wicket of today, 6/128
19.4: Massive six from Thompson! In the slot from Sandhu and puts it.... 90 metres! Well into the crowd empty seats behind the sightscreen.
19.6: Owen gets three fron the final ball to make it 6/139. A bad performance from the top order, McDermott aside (and it was bad too for him by his lofty standards), but late hitting from Short, Thompson and Owen off the final ball means Sydney must chase 140.

1.3: Gilkes with a lovely ramp shot! Nearly chops on, but once it passed the stumps it rolled away to the rope.

2.2: Gilkes with a thunderous shot! Creames it through cover to the rope.

3.3: Dangerous living. Gilkes hooks and only just clears a man twenty metres in from the fence. If he was five metres back, it would have been a simple catch...

4.6: WICKET! Gilkes runs at Short, who drags it wide. Misses and the stumping is completed easily. Gilkes goes. 1/34 from 5

6.2: Review for another stumping. This one is more of an inquiry, and for good reason as Sangha never actually left his crease.

8.6: Would have been one of the great catches! Owen induces a mishit from Hales, and Thompson hares around and gets to the ball with his outstretched right hand but just misses it. That was Fraser-McGurk levels

9.5: A dot means four is needed for the boost point.
9.6: Two. Boost point to Hobart.
1/62 from ten

10.4: Shelled! Poor from David. He had it, then needlessly banged his elbows on the ground and it burst out.

12.1: Tim David comes on and Sangha gives him what he deserves! Big shot over the sightscreen.

13.1: Hales finally finds the fence. Sliced away over point to the rope.
13.3: This over's getting away from Owen. Hales just whips him around to fine leg for four more.

1/104 from the 15. Hales brings up his fifty from the final ball of it

15.1: The surge is taken, Rogers bowls and Hales drives. That four brings up his fifty, apologies - I was early.
15.4: Another boundary for Hales. This one's less pretty, just a heave, but it finds the rope all the same.
15.5: Oh, that's luck! Big edge from Hales just misses off peg and runs to the fence. 13 from

16.1: Four more behind the keeper! That time it was deliberate, Hales sends a poor one from Meredith on its way.
16.2: Hales is rampant! Four more through square leg. Just 15 needed to win. Five fours in 8 balls
16.4: Inventive! Hales plays a self-preservation pull by ducking and pulling at the same time and h middles it. Luckily. He would have ducked into it if he missed
16.5: HALES HAMMERS IT! It's full and hit long. 96 metres down the ground.

17.2: A boundary for Sangha and a win for Sydney! A brilliant acceleration during the Power Surge, with 30+ from it, wins a close game for Sydney. Hurricanes didn't bowl well enough and their top order didn't bat well enough to win the game. Thunder continue to be second while Hobart strengthen their grip on fourth. Hales is MOTM.

See you... later today for the Strikers and Stars. IDK when 'Later' is. I'm going out some point tonight.

Stars XI: 1 Clint Hinchliffe, 2 Joe Clarke (wk), 3 Nick Larkin, 4 Joe Burns, 5 Hilton Cartwright, 6 Beau Webster, 7 Xavier Crone, 8 Qais Ahmad, 9 Adam Zampa, 10 Haris Rauf, 11 Brody Couch.

Stars X-factor subs: Tom O'Connell, Sam Rainbird.

Strikers XI: 1 Matt Short, 2 Henry Hunt, 3 Jake Weatherald, 4 Jonathan Wells, 5 Thomas Kelly, 6 Ryan Gibson, 7 Rashid Khan, 8 Harry Nielsen (wk), 9 Harry Conway, 10 Peter Siddle (capt.), 11 Fawad Ahmed.

Strikers X-factor subs: Liam Scott, Henry Thornton.

So a certain Stoinis is still in protocol or at least isn't returning. Other than him and Maxwell who was already ruled out due to his late test, all positive Stars players are back. Gibson, meanwhile, is back VERY quickly from his hamstring tear and replaces the COVID positive Matt Renshaw. Twelve of the Strikers' overs have to be spin...

0.1: Short flicks away the ball and a diving Hilton Cartwright just misses it! Cartwright still has his mask on, I assume this may be because he hasn't had Covid and all his teammates have.
0.6: RAMPED SIX! Henry Hunt hit that dead straight and it lands over the rope. Meanwhile, it turns out Cartwright forgot that he had his mask on. No paranoia

2.2: Flicked four for Hunt. Looking good.
2.3: WICKET! No longer looking good! Brody Couch pitches one up a la Mark Wood's dismissal, and given. It's a stump over, so may have been swinging down, but it's a forgivable decision if it isn't out. 1/21

3.3: WICKET! Zampa draws the false shot from Short and it goes directly to Webster at mid off. Big breakthrough. 2/29

5.3: WICKET! Weatherald with a nothing slog down the ground, doesn't get it and caught at long off. This is not good for Adelaide. 3/34
3/39 from 6 sorry am being distracted

7.5: Now Crone gets the ramped for six treatment! Wells finally finds the rope.

9.1: Placement from Wells! Gets it right between mid wicket and wide long on and sends it to the rope.
Drinks taken at 3/66

12.1: WICKET! Kelly doesn't quite get onto a rank full tss from Hinchcliffe and picks out the (un)masked man Cartwright on the boundary at mid wicket. 4/81

13.5: WICKET! Qais draws Gibson out of his crease, he misses and the stumping is completed easily. Adelaide in trouble at 5/91

14.4: A boundary through backward point brings up an important fifty for Jon Wells!

Surge taken at 5/100 from 15, and it's dinner break for me too

Chasing 140. Highlights from the final overs included a AFL-esque catch by Beau Webster and a team hattie (two bowled and then a suicidal run from the final ball of the innings)

1.4: WICKET! Well, that's a dodgy LBW for both teams. Hinchcliffe given out to Conway, but it was probably sliding down leg.

3.1: Clarke gets one out of the screws! After Rashid concedes just one from six balls, a slower ball from Conway is put into the chairs to make six from one ball.
3.3: Big over! This one's cracked into the gap at forward square leg for four.
3.6: Has Kelly saved the boundary? A cracking straight drive is intercepted right on the boundary by Kelly but it's not clear if it's safe. If it isn't, the over's conceded 20. Yep, he's saved it.

4.0: WICKET! Fawad drifts his first one down the leg side when he sees Larkin coming, and an easy stumping results. 2/24

2/38 from 6

7.4: WICKET! Burns got himself under scoreboard pressure, so he tried to clear the fence. Slog sweeps, and taken very well by Henry Hunt (also known as Jon Wells to the commentators) at deep square leg. 3/43

8.4: Cartwright absolutely leathers his first ball back past Short for four. That looked more like a medium pacer than a offspin delivery.

9.1: BAM! Take that bash boost chase! Joe Clarke is all over that shot and sends it crashing into the sightscreen for a sixer!
9.4: Cartwright replicates his shot from Short but even better! Crashes into the hoardings and wins Melbourne the boost point. Hodgey's commentator curse is on new levels.
3/68 from 10

11.1: DROPPED! Hunt can't hang on to a deep hit from Clarke and the ball rolls into the rope as a result. Could that be crucial?
11.6: WICKET! Hunt hangs on to an almost replica! Cartwright this time though, and he is gone. 4/83

12.2: Beau Webster doubles the amount of runs Rashid has conceded (13 prior balls) in one ball! Deft little lap sweep runs away to the fence.

Surge taken to start the 15th.
4/100 from 15. Rashid bowling meant only six were conceded, but Stars need 8 an over with him bowled out now

Two economical overs have the Strikers in an interesting position. On one hand, Melbourne needs 31 from 3 overs. On the other, it looks like they may be backending the 20th to be bowled by Short...
17.1: FOUR! Clarke's bash back past Conway beats him and also beats Siddle at wide mid off.
17.6: HUGE MOMNENT! Conway dishes up the finest of meat pies from his final ball and Clarke gives him the treatment. Nearly second deck, 95m over fine leg! 17 from the last 2 is gettable, especially with 1 of those by Matt Short

18.3: Wicket? Full toss is bowled by Siddle, and Clarke shells it directly to mid on. But a) has it carried and b) was it a waist high no-ball? Soft signal not out. B is answered first... NO BALL! Siddle is properly pissed, but I suspect he may be unaware of the no-ball call.
Nope, he's not happy.
Free hit (18.3): Swing and miss. Siddle has words for Clarke after that. Careful Sids, if you serve a half volley now you could end up back in Adelaide...
18.4: THAT'S SIX THOUGH! Clarke sends it back over Siddle's head and just misses the sightscreen! What an innings this is.
18.5: WICKET! This one is out! Clarke gets it again, and picks Kelly on the rope rather than just clearing him. Great knock, out for 83. Siddle surprisingly quiet. 5/133

19.1: WHO NEEDS CLARKE? For the second time this year, Qais hammers his first ball over the rope! That one's gone over cow. Regretting their decision to have Short bowl the final over.
19.2: Wide ends the game. Stars get all of the points thanks to winning all of the moments that they needed to. Great innings by Clarke and their solid spin was what gave them the upper hand. Clarke a deserved MOTM.

See you tomorrow* (the outing may be delayed until then, or tomorrow morning, so IDK exactly when I'll be available)

Scorchers XI: Kurtis Patterson, Nick Hobson, Laurie Evans(w), Ashton Turner(c), Aaron Hardie, Chris Sabburg, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Matthew Kelly, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou

Scorchers X-factor subs: Lance Morris, David Moody

Stars XI: Joe Clarke(w), Nick Larkin, Glenn Maxwell, Joe Burns, Hilton Cartwright, Beau Webster, Sam Rainbird, Qais Ahmad, Adam Zampa(c), Haris Rauf, Brody Couch

Stars X-factor subs: Clint Hinchliffe, Tom O'Connell

COVID again making for changes. Maxwell returns from his isolation, while Nick Hobson comes in for Cam Bancroft (close contact) and Jason Behrendorff (clsoe contact) returns for Lance Morris. Also, Rainbird in for Crone
