BBL|11 - Derp's Megathread + General Discussions

Philippe looked lkike he was going to suffer an opening over maiden. Nope. HAMMERS it through mid wicket for four from the final ball of Morris' over.

Another last ball boundary to mid wicket from Philippe, but this one goes all the way! Nine dots from the first two overs though...

Expensive third over. Two boundaries from Avendano mean twelve comes from it.
woops, that's the post button. sorry. 0/23 from three

Philippe hits the final over of the over for six for the second time! This time he dispatches Hatzoglou over mid wicket again, but actually up onto the hill. Great start for Sydney.

Avendano joins the Six From Final Ball Of Over club, but goes over square leg! Dominating slog-sweep. Every final ball has conceded four or more. Lance Morris is the only one not to concede a six from a final ball, but he's also the only one to concede a boundary from balls 1-5 of an over...

AJ Tye is the man to stop the rot. Five singles and a dot. Lovely bowling.

Six more over mid wicket for Philippe! He's looking imperious - with Vince and Henriques out, he'd need to be too.

WICKET! Leading edge from Philippe draws his wicket. Chipped back and a good catch by Agar off his own bowling sends him on his way. 1/56 from 7.1. Dinner time so I'll be back

Hello! I finally have coverage!

Sixers XI: 1 Justin Avendano, 2 Josh Philippe (wk), 3 Jack Edwards, 4 Daniel Hughes (capt.), 5 Jordan Silk, 6 Dan Christian, 7 Hayden Kerr, 8 Shadab Khan, 9 Ben Dwarshuis, 10 Jackson Bird, 11 Todd Murphy.

Sixers X-factor subs: Lawrence Neil-Smith, Mickey Edwards.

Scorchers XI: 1 Kurtis Patterson, 2 Cameron Bancroft (wk), 3 Laurie Evans, 4 Ashton Turner (capt.), 5 Aaron Hardie, 6 Chris Sabburg, 7 Ashton Agar, 8 Andrew Tye, 9 Matthew Kelly, 10 Peter Hatzoglou, 11 Lance Morris.

Scorchers X-factor subs: David Moody, Nick Hobson.

So, Munro, Vince and Abbott all out because of COVID I assume (unless Vince is in the England squad, I cannot remember). Sabburg in for the first time in eight years, while Avendano is the first ever player to represent two BBL teams.

See you soon!
Henriques also out because of COVID. Vince will join his national team in UK for Westindies T20.

Yeah, I realised that I'd completely whiffed that about two balls in.

2/68 from 10. Avendano got bowled later in Agar's over

WICKET! Hatzoglou pins Edwards in front. Big slowdown for Sydney here, 3/72

A few quiet over here, but livened up with a stumping chance from Agar! Silk looks like he's just slid back in time.

A much needed six for Hughes! Hooks Tye up and over fine leg and into the advertising.
3/99 from 15. Surge is taken.

WICKET! Agar is stunned he hung on. Hughes absolutely belted the cover off a wide one from Kelly, and picked out the all rounder at backward point. 4/101

Quiet power surge. 1 wicket and 16 runs. Second over was alright but Kelly was miserly.

Six for Christian! AJ Tye loses control of his yorker again and DC baseballs it over the ropes again. Free hit coming too. Just a single from it though.

DC now with a ramp! Runs away to the rope. Silk joins in the fun with a cover drive to the rope. 15 from the final over and 29 from the final two means Perth have to chase 152 to win. See you soon!

Silk's off the field with a hamstring complaint. That's huge given his fielding skill.

Took two overs for the Scorchers to break the boundary duck. It was through mid wicket...

WICKET! Christian holds a high ball! Tumbled over his butt doing so but he holds it most importantly and Kurtis Patterson is gone. 1/17
WICKET! Dwarshuis will be on a hattrick next time he bowls! Swings one back to Bancroft, makes it too close to cut and Bancroft chops on. 2/17

2/30 from five.

Shadab bowls a bouncer! Worst delivery I've ever seen, and Evans just glances it down to the fine leg boundary.
WICKET! Next ball is better! Evans slog sweeps one tossed up and an Edwards, I'm not sure which, takes the catch on the fence. 3/44
Wild sequence to finish the over! Shadab spins one through Turner, but Philippe misses it too. Short fine gets it though, and the batsmen fail to decide adequately whether there is a run (there absolutely is not) until it's close to being too late. No runs though.

Todd Murphy into the attack for his first BBL over. Draws a big top edge from his second ball but Jackson Bird can't get around from 45 in time.

Here comes Dwarshuis' hat-trick ball. It's blocked. No hattie. Turner then rubs it in with a ramp to the boundary and a six that just cleared deep backward square.

Scorchers get the Boost point. 3/72 from the ten. Looking much better than they were at 5

Surge taken to start the 13th.
DROPPED! First ball and Turner goes down! Hughes runs back from mid on, gets the ball, and it bobbles out. Wonder if that thumb affected him. Turner ramps it again the next ball. Four more from the next one brings up the 50 for Turner. 16 from the first Surge over... same as the Sixers scored from both of theirs combined. Oh dear

The second power surge is slightly less exciting as there's time in it to hold a discussion about the merits of the music the DJ is playing. Of course, there's still boundaries - a Turner cover drive means that 26 runs are scored in the surge.

Shadab comes back into the attack, and Turner deals with this with tonight's theme, a slog swept six over mid wicket. 3/123 from 15

Turner with a speedy steal, we think! He runs the first one incredibly quickly, which means he can hurry home for a second. Only just makes it too - by one frame. Turner's a bit too confident for that margin, but he is home. Hardie goes inside out over cover for six the next ball, which is caught by a Sixers support staff member. He probably wasn't that happy about it mind... Apparently it may have been former Thunder keeper Jay Lenton according to Brad Hodge! I suspect he's right.
WICKET! Turner holes out trying to replicate Hardie. It's a bad blow but they still need only 17 from four overs. Turner gone for a great 69, 4/135

Great 18th from Dwarshuis has given them a chance! Just four from it.

WICKET! Great somersaulting catch from Shadab, Hardie is gone and the game is less secure! Big top edge. Kerr draws the wicket. 5/144
BUT NOT IF CHRIS SABBURG HAS ANYTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT! Deft glance sends the ball to the boundary. Then follows up with two from a straight drive, and flicks the winning run to leg. Wonderful story for Chris Sabburg hitting the winning runs, but this game was all about the Ashtons - the bowling of Agar and batting of Turner proves to be the difference between the two teams. A good close game between two title favourites. Turner MOTM.

See you tomorrow for a double header, where I will try a new liveblog format!

I suspect some of you may actually want to see lineups, rather than me fawning over how hot Paddy Dooley and Jack Wood's actions are, so here they are:
Hurricanes XI: Ben McDermott (wk), Caleb Jewell, Peter Handscomb (Capt), Harry Brook, D'Arcy Short, Tim David, Jordan Thompson, Mitch Owen, Tom Rogers, Riley Meredith, Sandeep Lamichhane.

X-Factor Subs: Mac Wright, Will Sanders.

Thunder XI: Alex Hales, Matt Gilkes, Jason Sangha (Capt), Daniel Sams, Ollie Davies, Ben Cutting, Baxter Holt (wk), Nathan McAndrew, Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha, Muhammad Hasnain.

X-Factor Subs: Arjun Nair, Chris Tremain

You'll note Brook and Thompson are back for Hobart. They're still missing Matt Wade (personal and non-COVID, chose not to enter the bubble), Nathan Ellis (side) and Joel Paris (groin). I do think Tom Lammonby is better... Anyway, no changes for the Thunder.

"Gurinder Singh" - Brad Hodge

0.1: Hasnain cuts Jewell in half! A pearl of a ball to start.

2.2: WICKET! Huge top edge from a big swing from Jewell, carries to Sandhu at mid on, and Jewell is gone. McAndrew opens the Thunder's account. 1/9
2.3: Four byes! Cut everyone in half and nobody could stop any of it!
2.4: Inventive. First four off the bat for McDermott. Ramped over the keeper's head

4.2: Did Baxter Holt just cost his team a wicket? Big appeal from the bowler but none from him, and there's a small noise but no deviation on replay. Hmmm
4.4: McDermott is flying! Pierces the gap between deep mid wicket and deep square leg for a four.
1/30 from five

5.4: OUT OF THE SCREWS! First six of the day. Thunderous on drive from McDemott travels 25 rows back. It's surely longer than the 69 metres it was measured as.

6.3: Too easy for a player in the form of McDermott. Half volley on leg stump is flicked away to fine leg.

7.1: DROPPED but I don't blame Sangha. Handscomb drills it back at him, and Sangha gets his hands to it but can't hold on. Saved his... uh... future children, though.

8.6: Edge to the fence! Just safe of the catcher behind the wicket too. Handscomb lives dangerously.\

9.4: WICKET! McDermott goes for a big one over mid wicket and picks Ben Cutting on the fence. Oh dear. 2/62

Uh, Chris Green's on the Twitter account and I missed this. And so was Ross last game. FACEPALM from me. Here's some highlights, as the score is 2/63 from 10.

10.6: WICKET! Brook's out cheaply in a similar fashion to Jewell- Sandhu, though, is the bowler this time. High ball goes to Davies at point.

12.4: Sloppy fielding lets them get back for two. First a misfield at long on and then a wayward throw.
12.6: WICKET! Handcomb misses, Holt dismisses. Stumped easily. 4/78

4/89 from 15
