Points:

Worcestershire 8

MOTM:

Mark Ramprakash (111 and 31)

Comments:

We scraped a draw thanks to some great great batting from Stafford in the second innings. Big scores from Ramprakash, Brown and Hamilton-Brown made us pay as they scored 308 of the 386 runs. Mason bowled well taking 5 wickets while Al Hasan bowled pretty well as well. In our first innings, a fair few of our batsman got starts with Kervezee, Al Hasan and Wheeldon scoring in the 40's but it was the skipper, Daryl Mitchell who went on to make a good score with 87 as we made 275. From there, we really had no chance of winning and were lucky to come out with a draw.

Surrey win by 6 wickets

We struggled with the bat, with contributions from the lower order getting us over 300 in the first innings. Surrey were batting incredibly well to begin with, with none of the bowlers able to extract any of the batsmen until they had at least made their half-century. At one stage they were 340-3, before Ramprakash's dismissal sparked a collapse, with Shakib taking 7 wickets as they lost 7 wickets in the space of 54 runs. In the second innings, we would have been very happy to reach 350 and attempt to bowl them out, but the lower middle order didn't do anything with the bat, and they only needed to chase down 189 to win with just over 2 sessions left. Any hopes of a Shakib inspired collapse disappeared as Ramprakash stayed strong at the crease and got Surrey over the line. We got 5 points.

So far this season Shakib has 62 wickets @ 21.16 to be our best bowler by far, while Ali has 1219 runs @ 55.4 to be our best batsman. Apart from these two however, no one else has made a statement.

I want to say here that this is the best story I've seen around for a while.

I'll post my next match tomorrow. ;)
I've got a two week holiday coming up, so I'm not sure how busy you guys are ATM, but shall we try and finish this over the next few weeks?

An 2000 word essay due on Monday which I've only just started, a group project due next Friday, another 2000 word essay due the Monday after that which I haven't started, weekly assignments, and exams coming up in 5 weeks.

I should be able to post a reply once every few days. It'll be a good way to have a break. And doesn't really take that long tbh.

I've got a 2 week holiday coming up as well.... but most of it is being spent in Bali. I can update up until Tuesday next week as I'm going on Wednesday and then will probably be able to start updating again on Wednesday a fortnight later since I come back on the Saturday night I think but then I will have to study for trial school certificate which goes from Monday-Wednesday.

What have they done with our keeper?

I just started a Worcestershire game on the trial version. I thought we were a bit light-on at wickie, so I checked cricinfo, and guess what? The database has our wickie, Ben Scott, playing for Middlesex. To add irony to injury, I note that he plays against us in our first game!

Sure, I can see that he's a loan player, but that means he should be in our squad. That would mean we have a keeper (other than Solanki whose credibility in the role I would view with scepticism a la Trescothick) who has played more than one FC match!

Reaction:

TBH I CBF writing anything, after that mega fail performance.

Our batting was back to the shittest of ████, while our bowling actually managed to get worse.

Glamorgan's playing XI is almost as bad as ours, and it's a flingen joke that we got wasted so badly.

Meh, back to the drawing board I guess.

Also Ali just got a four week injury.

Comments:

Well we beat the team on top of the ladder. Now we have every chance in the world of qualifying for the next stage. The bowling was excellent although at 52/5, we should have bowled them out for a lot less. Our opening partnership was great, worth 87 runs, before Mitchell was dismissed for 32. Adler went onto make 57 but we weren't getting along so easily after that, Shakib's 35* along with 28 from Wheeldon and a late cameo from Arif with 9* off 5 just got us over the line with an over to spare. We're in fourth place now but we have a game in hand at least over every team in front of us, Sussex 1st with 14 points from 10 games, Glamorgan 2nd with 12 points from 10 games, Surrey 3rd with 12 points from 9 games and us 4th with 12 points from 8 games. We have a 4 point buffer over Lancashire in 5th.

You know you can post your match before I post mine, you don't need to wait until I post my one. :p

Another OD win for you though.

Worcestershire win by 4 wickets

Our first OD win in a while which is a refreshing change from the norm. Bowling first, Mason was effective and economical, with Arif and Shakib providing good support. Ali bowled an over and took a wicket as well which was nice. They only managed 197 which was definitely a chaseable total. Solanki batted well at the top of the order, but everyone else kept on getting starts, as the NRR crept up and up. Kervezee and Arif came together, and in his usual fashion, Arif was aggressive without giving away chances, piecing together a 17 ball 28 to take us over the line with 10 balls to spare.
