Comments:

Well this Christopher Pears seems like such a young talent. After a one man show from de Villiers who scored 112 in our decent total of 175, Stafford the only other player to score in double figures. Pears was given the new ball on his T20 debut and was hit for 4 first ball by Di Venuto. He bounced back right away though catching the edge and AB held onto it at slip. Benkenstein liked the look of him as well as he hit him for 2 consecutive boundaries in his next over but then was beaten by the pace the next delivery trapping him in front. Pears then was on a hattrick, by getting Mustard plumb in front of the wickets. The hattrick ball to Blackwell was very good and a huge appeal went up for LBW. The umpire turned it down as the batsman was just hit outside the line. Pears took 1 more wicket in his 4 overs straight to finish with figures of 4/33 while Rankin and Flowers did the rest.

I can play some this afternoon so you won't get too ahead :)

Comments:

Well another stunning win, with some excellent bowling from Christopher Pears. He took 2/14 in his opening 3 over spell before AB and Flowers took over in the middle but Pears came back on to bowl the last over and took 2 wickets to finish with figures of 4/19. With the bat, Norris played really well, hitting an unbeaten 62 at just over a run a ball while AB fired again with 72 and was unlucky not to get MOTM after that 72 along with his 2/24 and 2 catches but the MOTM selectors must have been tired of giving AB the award. But an excellent win. Only downside is that we didn't get to see Clarkson bat although it was likely he might have batted up the order if needed. His playing style doesn't really suit T20s though as a defensive style with a pace bowling preference.

Lancashire win by 64 runs

This match was a throwback to our old days when we were crap. Ireland was the only decent bowler, with the rest of them being very expensive. Mitchell and Sehwag were the worse offenders, with Sehwag going for 33 off 2 overs, and Mitchell, 24 off 1. Chanderpaul smashed them around for his 43 ball innings, as Lancashire set us the huge total of 207. Our batsmen were never up to the challenge, with Aimson the only one providing some form of resistance. We're still in fifth position, but I fear we won't remain here much longer.

Durham win by 6 wickets

We got owned yet again. The batsmen all got starts but no one continued on to a big score, and so we were 20 or so runs short of where we should have been. The Durham openers seemed to have no problems chasing, with Mustard and Di Venuto almost carrying the whole team there, before 4 quick wickets at the end. It didn't make any difference though. We are now in sixth and with basically no chance of making it through to the next round. I do have three new players however.

We have three new faces to our side however. Noel Sutton is an opening batsman who has a second team average of 37, with no centuries. Vic Rush is an opening batsman as well, but he has a second team average of 66 and will probably get some game time in the FC matches, and maybe some of the T20 matches if batsmen lose some form. Finally, Paul Shelley is a RMF all-rounder with a second team batting average of 35 and a bowling average of 29. He played in this T20 match, and didn't do too badly with the bat, but was expensive with the ball.

I'm now two behind, and Jono's one behind.

I'll catch back up tomorrow.

We needed that win, but we're still three points off the top four, with only fours matches remaining. I feel we're going to need to win our final four matches, and hope other results go our way. Not to mention we still have a terrible NRR, even after that pretty comfortable win.

Reaction:

Wtf, three T20 wins in a row!

My top five seem to be clicking at the right time, and my bowling seems to be becoming more and more consistent.

The table currently reads:

1 - Played 13, Points 20, NRR +0.82
2 - 12, 14, +0.47
3 - 12, 13, +0.32
4 - 13, 12, -0.16
5 - 12, 12, -0.45
6 - 12, 12, -0.62
Worcestershire - 13, 11, -0.51
8 - 13, 10, +0.14
9 - 12, 8, -0.02

As you can see it doesn't get much closer than this.

Matthew Hoggard (6 for 30 off four overs and 1 catch)

Reaction:

Holy ████, we've now won our last four, and five out of our last six!

Here's what the table currently looks like:

1 - Played 14, Points 22, NRR +0.92
2 - 15, 17, +0.20
3 - 14, 14, +0.29
4 - 14, 14, -0.46
Worcestershire - 14, 13, -0.37
6 - 14, 12, +0.40
7 - 15, 12, +0.29
8 - 14, 12, -0.31
9 - 14, 12, -1.02

Only two points separate the seven teams from 3rd place - 9th place.

For us it's pretty simple, we have to win our last two games against 7th place and 8th place, and hope that either 3rd place or 4th place lose one of their two remaining games. The gay thing is that neither of them are versing the top two teams. If that pans out, we won't need to worry about NRR.

Comments:

Well we nearly lost it but some cautious batting from Ali got us over the line in the end. Because of such the small total we were defending, I gave Clarkson a go at opening the batting but he made a 2 ball duck. A 35 run partnership between Ali and Adler though got us over the line in the end although we nearly payed the price for being over confident.

I still don't get how your "one man" bowling attack is doing so good...

Out of interest what are the second team bowling averages of Flowers, Pears and Rankin (and AB if he's played second team)?

Well Rankin has done reasonably well, averaging 32 in FC cricket, 25 in OD cricket and 21 in T20 cricket. Flowers averages 15.5 in the 2nd team (although everyone should know he's the ICC god :p) and Pears as I said earlier has a 2nd team average of 20. AB de Villiers hasn't played in the 2nd team and I don't think he is that good a bowler. T20 bowling is mainly about luck. His ER is still like 9 runs per over.

IIRC Davies' second team average is around 15, and I think Nel's is around 16/17.
