Worcestershire win by 7 wickets

For some reason we played them again. Result was much different though. Bowling first, Richardson, Arif, Komasaru and Sehwag were getting smacked around, so Mitchell came on to bowl, and took 2-13 from 4 overs, including the wickets of Trescothick and Taylor. His spell turned the match around. Mitchell and O'Brien started out looking like they were going to play one of their classic opening partnerships, but they both fell, with Sehwag not lasting too much longer. Aimson and Rush brought us home though, with 11 balls remaining. We have no chance of getting through to the next round however.

I might play my next match now, it's a must win, so it should be pretty interesting.

Dan Christian took his four wickets in one over, and he had a catch dropped on one of his two hat-trick opportunities.

Comments:

Well a very close match with a stunning last over from AB de Villiers winning us the game. But Norris failed again with the bat again but showed he is one wonderful slip fielder, as he pulled off a blinder at first slip down to his right. Pears showed he was a reasonable slip fielder as well, taking the catch to remove Jim Troughton in the last over, taking a good catch at second slip off AB de Villiers. Speaking of the last over, we really had no chance, they needed 6 to win with Clarke and Troughton at the crease. I had to bring the field up and AB had to bowl the over after the main bowlers had bowled out their over. Arif had given us a chance though after only going for 1 run in the second last over. The first ball was straight and Clarke worked it fine for 1. The second was pretty straight and Troughton placed it well to get 2 runs. The next ball was the big one though as Troughton edged it through to Pears at second slip. Woakes came to the crease and didn't score a run in his first 2 balls, not being able to get it past the short leg. They needed 3 off the last ball to win and Woakes hammered it away through point but the fielder made an excellent save on the boundary to restrict them to one and we won a nail biting match. Somehow after that win, we went top of the table, only due to our superior NRR, as 2nd and 3rd are on the same amount of points. We have secured a top 3 finish, with 4th place 3 points behind with 1 match to play.

A... Rush 39 (35)

Result:

Points:

MOTM:

Jeet Raval (87 runs off 63 balls)

Reaction:

We're going to the play-offs!

Our skipper Mitchell finally failed with the bat, but like usual when he does Raval stands up. Wright continues to be a massive fail, his last four T20 scores have been 0, 0, 0, 1. I felt 165 was slightly under par, considering the perfect batting conditions.

They got off to a flyer, but some great bowling from Christian (1-25 off 4) and Panesar (1-28 off 4) pegged them back. Heading into the last four overs they needed 40 runs to win with eight wickets in hand, but I had two overs left from my each of my two best bowlers. Off both of their third overs they got dispatched, so all of a sudden they needed just 15 runs off 12 balls with eight wickets in hand. Nel then only conceded six runs off the 19th over, so Davies had nine runs up his sleeve for the final over, they could only manage six singles giving us our sixth T20 win in a row.

We finished up in 3rd place on 17 points, meaning Essex will host us in the quarter-finals. Incredibly the other group has five teams tied for first on 18 points, so if I was in that group I would have finished in 6th place.

Worcestershire win by 7 wickets

We steamrolled them! Ireland was the only poor bowler, as the rest of the attack struck often to remove Warwickshire for only 62. Rankin was the pick of the bowlers, while Richardson took two crucial wickets, and Wheeldon had the pretty good figures of 1 wicket for no runs off 1 over. I wanted to chase the total down as quick as possible, but this resulted in low scores for the top 3. To preserve wickets Aimson and Rush hung around for a while before letting loose, but we still won in 8.1 overs. We are now in sixth place, and the only way to get into the top 4 is to win and hope that either Warwickshire or Durham lose their next match.

Comments:

What an abysmal performance to finish our T20 group stage. We still finished in second position though and will play Kent in the quarter finals.

Lol, it's about time you got wasted Brendon. :p

We are now in sixth place, and the only way to get into the top 4 is to win and hope that either Warwickshire or Durham lose their next match.

You said in your last update that there was no way you could advance?
That's the exact same equation I had, having to win, and hope that one of two teams above me lose.
In my case both of them lost, so I finished up in third place.

Well because we got whipped so bad, our NRR was terrible. But now it's not too bad. Can someone post after me so I can post my next match?

Well your scenario was exactly the same as mine. I assume you've already played your match, so there's not much point on saying good luck.
