Champions League Twenty20 2011

Did I hear someone saying they'd had 6 months to prepare for this? Certainly beats Somerset's one day. Still though, that Bates did bowl well, but too much pace on the ball for these conditions on the whole from Auckland. I'm glad we learnt from the last time we were here naming 3 genuine spinners in the lineup. Waller continues to impress when the conditions suit.

We'd have much preferred the one day tbh. Winter's just finished here and they've hardly had any competitive cricket since the season finished in January/February. Whereas Somersets been playing cricket consistently for the past 4 months or so.

Auckland's pace bowlers are its strength so it was pretty obvious they were gonna stick with them. Still, we should have won both games really...

I thought Auckland did pretty well tbh, when you consider who they ended up playing. At least they were competitive unlike the NZ sides to play in the last two tournaments. Vincent and Bates were probably the only two positives, I would hope Bates would get a call up to the black caps at least once this summer. They did have their game plan completely wrong though. I don't know which genius thought they would win with just pace bowlers, and if they were just going to use pace bowlers why did Martin play instead of Tuffey who was arguably the best bowler in the HRV cup last season :facepalm

Think Tuffey had some sort of injury

They wanted to come home and watch some proper sport. (Rugby World Cup and the Warriors) ;)

You are joking right?

if there was no qualifier and teams like ruhuna or leics would have given direct entry to main stages, then there would have been many one-sided game.

you might be disappointed because new zealand team got knock-out before main stage.

Tbh it doesn't really worry me. Yes I look at the scorecards to see how the Auckland players are going, but I didn't watch a ball of either of the matches...

Rugby World Cup >>>>> Champions League Cricket

Why call something a Champions League when the 4th placed team out of 10 teams is there?

Exactly.

So how exactly do you think the IPL (Indian International Premier League) sides would fare if they got robbed off their domestic talents (Pollard, Bravo, Bollinger, etc.) and played a maximum of only two overseas players in their XI? I swear Auckland has more domestically talented players than any of the IPL sides.

On our game, happy to have one foot on the main draw, though I'm massively gutted at Auckland's elimination. A certain fourth placed team of a certain joke of a league is on the verge of making the main draw as well. :rolleyes

This tournament is beyond ridiculous for obvious reasons:

1. 4 off the 10 IPL teams making a 10 team tournament, restricting four 'champion' teams from other countries to a qualifying competition, with one champion team already out. Leicestershire and Ruhuna are all but out as well.

2. 4 overseas players per IPL side, compared to 1-2 of the other countries domestic sides taking part.

3. IPL sides leeching domestic talents of the other qualified sides, when the latter mainly rely on those talents to perform, given they hardly have any overseas/International players in the mix.

4. Not much off an issue, but India bagging the hosting rights again, when they already played host to Season 1. Just so you know, there are countries like Australia & New Zealand who are yet to host anything big, ever since I started following cricket (2005).

Tuffey took three wickets @ 42, with an E/R of 8.4... :spy

yeah, I don't know what I was thinking lol maybe I was thinking about last season??

Yeah, I have to admit I don't care at all about this tournament, disappointing for the players I guess because they don't get their payday but this is a complete joke of a tournament. I would rather watch a replay of Italy v Russia :D

Yeah my bad I was thinking about the previous season, 14 wickets at 19, economy 6.32.

i think auckland had full squad, but still they scramble for 120 runs thats what you called a domestic talent. NSW won 2009 clt20 in india, and chennai won clt20 in south africa which clearly tells that any team can win this competition.

You only only see players getting robbed off, but u don't see that Domestic teams like NSW, TT, Cape Cobras have better team spirit than any of the ipl teams because ipl tournament is played for only 6 weeks where as Domestic cricket is played for more than 6 month.

Few Years back there was series held between ROW XI VS Australia and australia thrash ROW XI (a test match and 2-3 ODI).

ROW XI got thrashed even after having best crickerter's of the year because they lacked team spirit.

About Domestic talent, against auckland kolkata knight riders won the match because of domestic talent.

Bisla scored 45 runs (not played for india)
Yousuf pathan took 2-3 wickets
Rajat Bhatia bowled 4 overs for 15 - 20 runs. (not played for india)
iqbal abdulla 4overs 20 runs (not played for india)

brett lee and kallis did not won the match on their own, it was indian domestic player who won the match.

About 4th team, even i did not wanted KKR (IPL TEAM) to be as 4th team but if other boards like (England) does not wanted to support this tournament (support means they have 2 t20 match so because of that some key players of somerset are missing) then how can u give them direct access to main stage.

If australian team would have picked in place of 4th IPL team then question would have been raised why Aus team not south arica ?

As we are world champions, we like cricket most. i am a professional web programmer and coder and IIT student, so i don't get time to see all matches but i do follow almost all matches by cricinfo.

i think rugby (live) is not even telecast in india.

This tournament should have been held in australia (as an indian) this time as that would have give indian young players to get used to australian pitches and condition for upcoming series and 2015 world cup.

ironically im not sure this clt20 is being broadcast in aus due to the broadcast rights debacle

I'm not going to watch a ball of this tournament. Its so pathetic. I really hate this.

Hoping that CLT20 sinks like a ship within 4 years.

You do realise:

a) India has 268 times the population that New Zealand has
b) Cricket is India's number one sport
c) Cricket is not New Zealand's number one sport

Oh come on mate you cannot hide your disappointment behind Rugby WC. You were the most confident guy who said Auckland would thrash teams if I remember correctly and now with them losing you saying Rugby WC is greater then CLT20?

You say Rugby is greater the CLT20 and many New Zealand people might have thought that so why not add one more Indian team where Indians watch more?:rolleyes

This is what whoever thought thought ;)

Go watch Rugby and let people who want to watch CLT20 watch this instead of crying why 4th team and all those things mate.

I was too against KKR in this tournament but they are now, they might just qualify now if you want WATCH if you dont then dont. Simple as that.

Do you even realize Rugby is the sport that is passionately followed in NZL, as cricket's in India?
And me being a neutral can assure you that the Rugby World Cup >>>>> Champions League Cricket, quality wise.

I don't know but, I'm watching this tournament. I get to know about the players I haven't heard of. So, that's a good thing.
