Champions League Twenty20 2011

If KKR win in less than 18.4 overs, then Somerset are out (assuming KKR score 167 to win; if they score 170, then Somerset need to drag it to at least 19 overs), KKR need 153 to make the cut if they lose.

Excellent first half for us, need our bowling department to fire now.

Harry when since you changed your nationality :p Must be after English tour?

We'd have much preferred the one day tbh. Winter's just finished here and they've hardly had any competitive cricket since the season finished in January/February. Whereas Somersets been playing cricket consistently for the past 4 months or so.

Auckland's pace bowlers are its strength so it was pretty obvious they were gonna stick with them. Still, we should have won both games really...

For most of the players maybe, but there are a few who have been playing in England as well, so it's hardly the main reason for them not doing well. Sure, pace bowlers may be the strength, but you need to play for the conditions, not just what you think will work. Look at that Mills over in the Somerset game, 15 runs or so and most of them behind square due to pace on the ball, that would never happen with a spin bowler in operation.

Anyways, good to see Somerset getting through, hopefully Buttler can come and show what he can do alongside Kieswetter. I think we could certainly use the improvement behind the stumps, even though Snell has been excellent with the bat. Embarrassing to see the Indian team celebrating a loss like that though. They look a lot happier losing than we did for winning.

What takes the bacon for me is the fact on Cricinfo the results of the matches come under 'Indian Domestic.'

They know the score!

^ +1 on that.
I really hope Somerset or a team from SA win this.

Exactly.

So how exactly do you think the IPL (Indian International Premier League) sides would fare if they got robbed off their domestic talents (Pollard, Bravo, Bollinger, etc.) and played a maximum of only two overseas players in their XI? I swear Auckland has more domestically talented players than any of the IPL sides.

<troll bait>
IPL teams = English internation team (4 players of foreign origin :lol)....
</troll bait>

On our game, happy to have one foot on the main draw, though I'm massively gutted at Auckland's elimination. A certain fourth placed team of a certain joke of a league is on the verge of making the main draw as well. :rolleyes

Auckland does not seem to be capable of beating a certain team of a certain joke league. One can imagine what these jokers would do against a strong champion team...

This tournament is beyond ridiculous for obvious reasons:

1. 4 off the 10 IPL teams making a 10 team tournament, restricting four 'champion' teams from other countries to a qualifying competition, with one champion team already out. Leicestershire and Ruhuna are all but out as well.

1. The champion teams did not play good cricket in the last two series
2. Unless anyone is living under a rock they should be knowing that ESPN paid 1 billion dollars for this series. And they want to make a profit. That is not possible unless Indians watch cricket and ESPN seems to be having a tough time selling this cricket to Indians. Hence more Indian teams to increase interest. Remove your patriotic hat and look from a business perspective.

2. 4 overseas players per IPL side, compared to 1-2 of the other countries domestic sides taking part.

No one is asking them not to have more than 2 players.

3. IPL sides leeching domestic talents of the other qualified sides, when the latter mainly rely on those talents to perform, given they hardly have any overseas/International players in the mix.
If you take IPL team and domestic team of the equation and let the players choose it is no brainer they will chose the one that is paying them the most. Atleast with this procedure the home team gets around 200k per player who plays for the IPL team. If we let the players take the decision most of them would still choose IPL team and the home teams will not benefit financially as well.

4. Not much off an issue, but India bagging the hosting rights again, when they already played host to Season 1. Just so you know, there are countries like Australia & New Zealand who are yet to host anything big, ever since I started following cricket (2005).

Soln would be for Aus and Nz people to start thinking Cricket >>> Rugby and probably produce more babies who can be targetted by advertisers. Then I am sure CL will be there :cheers

Great news for Oz cricket fans. @FOXSPORTSAus will broadcast CLT20 tournament from sub-continent. Details to follow #cricketgold

Don't know how accurate that is but would be pretty silly not to have one of the main countries supporting this tournament to not have coverage.

i think auckland had full squad, but still they scramble for 120 runs thats what you called a domestic talent. NSW won 2009 clt20 in india, and chennai won clt20 in south africa which clearly tells that any team can win this competition.

You only only see players getting robbed off, but u don't see that Domestic teams like NSW, TT, Cape Cobras have better team spirit than any of the ipl teams because ipl tournament is played for only 6 weeks where as Domestic cricket is played for more than 6 month.

Few Years back there was series held between ROW XI VS Australia and australia thrash ROW XI (a test match and 2-3 ODI).

ROW XI got thrashed even after having best crickerter's of the year because they lacked team spirit.

About Domestic talent, against auckland kolkata knight riders won the match because of domestic talent.

Bisla scored 45 runs (not played for india)
Yousuf pathan took 2-3 wickets
Rajat Bhatia bowled 4 overs for 15 - 20 runs. (not played for india)
iqbal abdulla 4overs 20 runs (not played for india)

brett lee and kallis did not won the match on their own, it was indian domestic player who won the match.

About 4th team, even i did not wanted KKR (IPL TEAM) to be as 4th team but if other boards like (England) does not wanted to support this tournament (support means they have 2 t20 match so because of that some key players of somerset are missing) then how can u give them direct access to main stage.

If australian team would have picked in place of 4th IPL team then question would have been raised why Aus team not south arica ?

As we are world champions, we like cricket most. i am a professional web programmer and coder and IIT student, so i don't get time to see all matches but i do follow almost all matches by cricinfo.

i think rugby (live) is not even telecast in india.

This tournament should have been held in australia (as an indian) this time as that would have give indian young players to get used to australian pitches and condition for upcoming series and 2015 world cup.

Sorry mate but this is pathetic, no one outside India gives a toss about this tournament and its crappy cricket. God knows why sky bought the rights, complete and utter waste of money. I don't know why its not called Indian champions league..

You do realise:

a) India has 268 times the population that New Zealand has
b) Cricket is India's number one sport
c) Cricket is not New Zealand's number one sport

Do you even realize Rugby is the sport that is passionately followed in NZL, as cricket's in India?
And me being a neutral can assure you that the Rugby World Cup >>>>> Champions League Cricket, quality wise.

We are not asking you to rate a rugby tournament and CL T20. First you are so excited about your team beating every other team but when your team does not even qualify for main league than you start stating ████ like this? That rugby is better than CL T20? If you like to watch cricket than watch it, if you don;t than go watch rugby.

Indeed.

As i always say world cricket can't have both the champions league and the IPL in a yearly calendar, that's T20 overkill - especially considering that a world T20 is scheduled for every two years already. One of those tournaments have to be scrapped or revamped.

Harry when since you changed your nationality? :p Must be after English tour?

I always use 'us' for the teams I support, and I don't really care as to how the others interpret that.

I'm a Somerset fan for the record, and we've qualified in some style. And I still maintain the fact that the Rugby WC >>>>> CLT20, quality wise. F-ed up much?

Somerset 2-0 IPL sides (Deccan Chargers 2009, KKR 2011)

That's quality for you. Quality > Quantity ($$$ IPL sides)

now i completely agree to you. You should be disqualified and not be allowed to play 5 overseas...
CLT20 has itself to blame for this kind of reputation. Also Somerset indeed are quality its just that they are.chokers.too
