Giving as Good as We Got
May 4th 2007 - Ha! Get back down to earth you Sussex tossers. They thought they were so hard by skittling us that they completely forgot how to bat as we ripped through their batting order to take a critical first innings lead of 52.
I was bowling some pretty lethal stuff out there and the batsmen were really smelling the leather. I took 3 wickets but it could have easily been more if the umpire had wore his glasses instead of eating them.
The first wicket was straight out of the McGrath school of line & length as my subtle variations proved the undoing of England hopeful Matt Prior. The ball nipped back off the seam and just clipped his off bail.
Line and length is so important in a fast bowler's game.
I then sent Ambrose packing with an absolute jaffer. It was bang in the corridor and he was unsure whether or not to come forward to it and in the end, he he haplessly edged it to Brendo.
Corridor of uncertainty; Too bloody right it is.
I then did to Mushy what I did to Irani at Chelmsford earlier in the week; Got my revenge for losing my wicket to them. The first ball I bowled to him was a right corker and he got a bid edge on it and it went straight to Jimmy at slip.
Mushed; Don't ever get me out sunshine or you'll pay the price.
The pitch was getting progressively worse and I think a lead of over 250 would put Sussex out of the game. It was time to bat out of our skins is we were to force a victory.
Sussex's scorecard makes for even more miserable reading than ours did.
A terrific team effort from the lads with me bowling economically again.
